Each of the 4 remaining P12 schools (WSU, OSU, Stanford, and Cal) could receive as much as $105M/ea next season. Additionally, what's not included in the quote below, is that the P12 still retains it's P5 conference status including college football playoff guarantees and financial distributions.

What does that mean? Well, it gives our remaining programs discretion to bait programs into joining our league with the lure of P5 status. After the 2024 season, MWC teams could join without penalty, so we could see a situation where we use a portion of that $420M to pay the exit fees of San Diego State and Colorado State. Offer SMU and maybe another program like Tulane entry next season, and then round out the conference in 2025 where there will likely be ACC fallouts available.

It would be kind of cool if we could form an East coast pod of teams comprised of some ACC programs along with Army and Navy. If Air Force joined, we'd have all (3) Commander in Chief Service academy's, which are strong National sellers.

From Canzano

SDSU and any other MWC teams would come with a $34 million buyout if they were to join in time for the 2024 football season. There is a significant war chest available to the four remaining schools, however. All the media-rights distributions, payments and postseason distributions that were due to the Pac-12 in the next distribution could end up in the hands of the four remaining members.

The estimated total: $420 million.

Stanford, Oregon State, Cal and Washington State are entitled to use all the funds to cover additional costs and damages caused by the departures.”

If it's true that the Pac retains its P5 status then please merge the MWC into the Pac. The merge would more than likely mean we don't have to pay that $34 million exit fee. The Pac can keep all the money they have just let us in so we can have that P5 status. That access to the playoffs is gold. We would be happy to begin conference play starting 8/1/2024.

Just please do us UNLV fans one favor. Keep fvking reno out of this merged conference.

There’s bills to pay I believe. The refund to Comcast in particular.

Take the money and run, IMO. Pay off/pay down our debt.

I don't think you realize how much our fan base covets any trip to Nevada AND views Reno as better priced Vegas. We're full on degenerate.

Although the memories of 2014 and that frickin viking the Wolfpack started at linebacker may leave a bad taste in some fans mouths.

I've always maintained that, one way or another, WSU is going to receive a golden handshake to address the debt situation. If that happens and the worst case scenario is a start-from-scratch PacWest merger and eventual formation of a 16-team league, I can live with that.

If it’s all accurate, this seems like a good short-term solution. But I’d expect that when the next round comes in 5-6 years, the superconferences will push a realignment that pushes a PacWest conference to the margins. One berth for the conference champ, at most. No consideration for the rest of the conference. The runner up gets the Sun bowl.

While a MTN West/PAC X merger is semi good, what's better is:

Grabbing the BEST, borderline P5/Group of 5 colleges, as far as TV's, biggest metros, most academic prestige, most competitive, collectively combined together, etc, irregardless of geography.

The Best programs are:

SDSU: Adds CA metros, recruiting, highly competitive, TV's, Recruiting hotbeds, etc.

SMU: Was in SWAC with Texas, Oklahoma, Dallas Metros, TV's, LOTS OF MONEY(BOOSTERS), Highly competitive, will be BIG TIME again, Recruiting hotbeds, etc.

Tulane: BEATS BLUE BLOODS IN NY6, deliver SE TV markets, Recruiting hot beds

Memphis: Kind of like P5 Louisville. Delivers SE TV's, big metro, recruiting hotbeds, extremely competitive, etc

USF: Florida Metro TV's, very competitive, recruiting hotbeds, maybe opens up getting ACC leftovers in future, etc

Rice: Was in SWAC with Texas in past, Houston Metro TV's, Big time academics, not currently competitive, but can be so again in future, recruiting hotbed, etc.

UNLV:

Fresno St.

BSU

CSU

Appalachian St: has beaten Michigan. Perennial powerhouse team.

NDSU ABOUT PERENNIAL NATIONAL CHAMPION POWERHOUSE FOR LAST 33 YEARS THAT HAS BEATEN MICHIGAN.

Utah State.

Gonzaga.

You add Stanford, Cal, Ore St, WSU to that, and that's a pretty BAD AZZ HYBRID Power 5, Group of 5, that would have 2 possible CFP seats, 2 possible NY6 seats, would probably keep PAC X/Big 10 Rosebowl, and probably have cottonbowl, Fiesta bowl at large tie ins, would probably keep Alamo bowl, Holiday Bowl, Vegas Bowl, etc.

And if did scheduling alliance with ACC, probably would get about a 15 mil to 20 mil to 25 mil to 30 mil per team pay out.

And if ACC blows up, could maybe get ACC teams to join conference, which might then raise media deal to 20 to 25 to 30 to 35 mil per team.

This is a much better option then just flat merging with MWC, if WSU does not join Big 12, which it probably won't join Big 12.

But the remaining PAC Presidents, AD's, Commish, leadership, etc, will not do this better, best option, and will either just merge with MWC, or Join MWC.
