WSU Committs

Re: Jeff Pollard 2015 PF - Verbal Commit

First 2015 Verbal Commit.

I believe that his Dad used to play for BYU. He is a 6'8 220 pd PF from Monticello Utah. . So far,his only other offer is from Southern Utah. let's hope that he is a diamond in the rough who will soon be noticed by other schools.

I don't want him noticed by anybody. Ernie Kent wants him, He's 6'8 at a position of need with good bb genes. Good enough for me.

I watched a couple of short videos. He is not a physically impressive player. However, he appears to be very smooth and well schooled. He will take time to develop unlike Kent's other recruits.

so... project him developed... best case, compared with other Cougar players in the past who made memories... what might be his upside in years 3,4 and 5? assuming he redshirts year 1 with limited minutes year 2.

He should fit right in with the rest of WSU's front court players.

Kent has said he does not normally like to redshirt players. You can never say never, but redshirting is a long term strategy. At Kent's age and that I believe he wants to turn the program around sooner than later, I doubt he redshirts anyone.

So is Kent recruiting much better than did KB?

Maybe. I am not sure though.

At least he's addressed the pg position.

It is difficult to project without seeing more of the kid. However,i would say that he has a great upside. He is a smart intelligent player who has been playing in the shadow of other D1 scholarship players on his team. However,he is a rangy kid with long arms . He has great feet and moves well on the court. He can easily put on 20 pounds without losing quickness or mobility. That is why i said,i hope other schools start to notice him but he keeps his verbal. On one pick and roll play he broke to the basket and dunked the ball. While not a highlight dunk,it showed quickness mobility and the ability to get off his feet. I would say a solid recruit whose best days as a basketball player are ahead of him. He is a basketball player whom Kent and his staff saw promise and potential. Perhaps ,they are ahead of the pack on this recruit. It will be interesting to see how he does during his senior season.

Speaking of point guard, former Cougar commit Tramaine Isabel just committed to Missouri.

thanks for the correction... I guess we have to assume this kid will be ready to contribute something ElC just doesn't see that Kent does?

Kent plans to be around a long time. I Believe he said something about presenting Moos with a five year plan next year.

It would seem a little early to offer a kid like this but as mentioned above he was in the shadow of 2 other D-1 players on his high school team and apparently he must have really impressed at elite camp, so got to just go with coach and trust his instincts. I also agree he looks like he could bulk up easily hope he shows up on campus at 225 and eventually ends up in the 240 range.

I would like to see if he can shoot the three and put the ball on the floor and drive to the basket. He may end up at the three or four slot.As mentioned,he must have shown a lot at the Elite camp to be offered. He averaged 2.3 blks per game and that is in his favor.. He also had 14 pts and 14 rbs in the playoffs leading his teams' win over a team and player who had manhandled them the year before. I like players who perform their best in big games. It is one of my criteria for projecting how they will do at the next level

How is this any different than a Bone recruit?

Color me unimpressed so far. The fact he committed a day after being offered probably means he's not being sought after by major or high mid-major programs.

I guess that a lot of posters are feeling this way. The only thing which may change people's minds is if he has a monstrous senior season. One tries to find the positives and at this point, we have to give Ernie the benefit of a doubt. If Boatwright had given a verbal then we would all be excited. So we will see how he does during his senior year. He has good bloodlines and one always hopes that the potential will be realized.. I wonder if anyone saw him perform during the Elite Camp?Reports??
