The Vikings deal was absolutely terrible for them. A first rounder, and then 2 players tied to conditional first rounders. Jimmy Johnson never had any intention of using the players- he was going to cut/trade them and get the additional picks…and he did. Vikings never should have made that deal, but they thought Walker was going to get them to the Super Bowl.

People did the dumbest shit for running backs in that era. You could already see at that point in time that good running backs could be found deep on draft boards and their value should be adjusted accordingly. Some teams still didn’t get this well into the 2000s.

There’s some stupid MFers managing rosters of billion dollar sports franchises. Blows my mind.

Well, and they probably pulled off the best series of trade & draft moves in history. They turned Herschel Walker into Emmitt Smith, Russell Maryland, Kevin Smith, Darren Woodson, and a couple others. Plus the most amazing string of correct guesses on draft selections, they went from 1-15 in 1989 to Super Bowl champs in 1992 & 93. Amazing turnaround....all based on getting rid of the guy everyone thought was their best player.

As a Cowboys fan from the 1970's I was very happy to see that powerful team come together. After their strong run for a few years, I think that the the NFL's salary cap was implemented that ended up being the end of the Cowboys, as other teams signed away their role players to big contracts that Dallas could not match, destroying their quality depth. Hope I am remembering correctly.
