Liam Ryan

Son, lots of people who died from other causes had covid in their system when they died. They in turn were counted as a covid death even though covid had nothing to do with their passing. THAT is a fact.
So to answer your question...no.
Hth... I really do!
Son, you fail to grasp that the total number of deaths has increased by the hundreds of thousands since the pandemic began. Keep treating that as a coincidence if it helps you sleep at night, but you are wrong.

I have no intention of changing anyone's viewpoint. People should be able to make their own choices when it comes to health. It's none of my business on how they choose to treat their bodies or what they put into them.

And it's none of their business on how I treat mine. Especially someone like Jay Insleee.
So you are ok with smoking indoors at restaurants then?

I have to say that I'm impressed that y'all are still arguing with each other about COVID. I made a decision about a month ago to quit trying to convince folks on here that they should change their viewpoint.

I wish I would have done that sooner. This board will be better when the last stragglers realize the same thing.
I don't expect to save any Q idiots - but I sure as hell am not going to let them spread straight up lies unchecked. Its disgusting that the moderators of this board allow this blatant BS to get shared.

Yes, there are people who died with Covid, where it wasn't the true proximate cause of death. But there is the actuarial concept of "excess mortality." There were 470,000 excess deaths in the USA over what was projected in 2020 - 352,000 were considered Covid "confirmed" deaths, of which you are dubious, but they don't have a reasonable explanation for the most of the other 118,000, other than under reported Covid related deaths. When you consider that for profit medicine and poverty don't generally mix, the actuarial science industry attribute most of the unexplained 118,000 to untreated/undiagnosed Covid, for risk assessment purposes.

Keep an open mind!

And herein lies the problem with discussions such as this. Because I point out that it is false to say 800,000 people died from COVID-19 in the U.S., you and others assume I'm saying no one died from COVID-19 in the U.S.
That isn't my point at all. Yes, Covid kills people. In the numbers that are reported? No.

She is a well-regarded Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Her references are linked in the article.

If you’ve drunk the Q koolaid, respected actual scientists with actual PhDs in epidemiology are probably not going to move your needle. Not my problem.
So all are "respected" epidemiologists on the same page with her? If you're gonna eat the leftist sh!t sandwich at every Fauci press release, then there is no helping you.

If the proprietors of the establishment want that, sure. It’s their business. They take the risk or reward of such a decision.

In fact, just two nights ago walked into a restaurant in another state which allows such choice. It was my choice to turn around and go to the place next door.

The first place was packed by the way. I wasn’t forced to eat there nor did I try to shame those smoking customers who were enjoying a night out with their cigarettes.

You do understand that pandemics ending and the virus remaining are two completely different things, right?
Your attempts to evade questions are well known here. You can always try to be smarter. Emphasis on try.

Feel free to cite and quote 'the' lie.

It's cute you utilize 'literally'. That really rams home the point you're unable to make.
Visited my dentist just the other day for my routine teeth cleaning/lecture and my hygienist (a little 70+ yr old sweet woman) started talking about Covid and the effects its had in her life. I told her I wasn't vaccinated and she thought that it should be up to the individual whether to do so or not. She then proceeded to ask me why and when I told her about my natural immunity she responded with "well it doesn't last that long" and I asked her in return "Well, how do you know this? Because there have been little to no studies that actually focus on this aspect of Covid."... She didn't cite any specific sources but related her thought process to other common viruses, mainly the flu.

So let me get this straight...... People who are against the mandates, lockdowns and ridiculous mask enforcement are not allowed to associate their line of reasoning based on the flu virus (and if you do you're an ANTI-VAXXER) but if you're pro all those asinine things its perfectly acceptable?

Since this thread has already gone to hell, I might as well share that earlier in the week I privileged myself to listening to OPB for a few hours and was blessed with endless bloviating about omicron variant. No facts (because there are none), but a ton of speculation and fear mongering. I mean, literally the subtext was "we don't know anything, but you should be very afraid even though initial observations show that omicron is less virulent." When pressed on omicron being less virulent, the host then brought on another guest to explain that away and justify the need for more lockdowns, mandates (unless you're the blessed children of Pelosi), and other such fckery.

I'll restate that to make it clear - when the OPB guest expert (a doctor) stepped outside of the narrative and suggested that omicron might not be as dangerous (but they didn't know yet because its only 2 weeks in), they immediately brought another guest on to debunk their guest and crank up the fear factor. Its shameful.

Fear mongering?

It is intellectually dishonest because you have never protested the vaccine mandates that are already on the books.

It may not be your place to tell me to get vaxed or not, but it is your responsibility not to put me and others at risk. I don't live scared and you continue to bring that up. But I do respect those who may. I was in Pullman on dad's weekend. We were to have the woman who is designing the remodel coming over two days after we got back. I called her told her I was in Pullman, and that I was around people I didn't know their vax status. That I would go get a covid test, but I offered up we could postpone 10 days. The woman was so appreciative, as her husband has cancer, which I did not know about.

I was in the close quarter of a 64 year old man in Chelan, didn't know his vax status but everyone else invited to the party was vaxed. One of the party goers was in his final sessions of his chemo. No one knew he had cancer. The 64 year old didn't have the courtesy to tell people before he got there he wasn't vaxed.
Speaking of intellectually dishonest....

Go to OPB and listen yourself.

This is what should be reported: "there's a new variant. It's called omicron. We don't have enough data to draw any meaningful conclusions, so carry on being safe as you have been and when we know more we'll tell you." But that doesn't sell.

Instead we get loaded questions with generic answers that leave the conclusions to the listeners imagination, but the seed has been planted, hasn't it? "Well, they're reporting on omicron, so it MUST be important or dangerous." It's sneaky, disgusting "journalism" and OPB/NPR should be ashamed.

Can yall take your vaccine argument to a thread dedicated to the topic? I'm interested in reading people's opinions on Liam Ryan and players sitting out bowls in general and it sucks having to sift through 3 pages of vaccine argument to find them. Please and thank you.

To try to get back on topic, something to consider, Ryan is likely training not just for the NFL draft. Even if he's not NFL caliber, he could be prepping for a CFL shot.

None the less, I hate this trend. It sucks. We haven't won an Apple Cup and a bowl game in the same season since 1994. Would be great to go into the offseason on a positive and have our last memory of this season be a good one. I'm tired of the bowl game turds we consistently got from Leach.

The Borg are gonna have to work extra hard on you too.
Here is my issue...you too are under the "control of the borg"....you may have held your nose, but you have complied with the other vaccine mandates. They don't even present them as mandates. "Before you go to school you will need the following vaccines". You didn't have a choice, nor did your kids, nor did the kids you coached in AAU ball. They all were "mandated" to be vaxed for the good of the community. So while you may really have a huge issue with "choice", when the rubber met the road you too were like anyone else and got inline with other mandates with regards to vaccines. .

At this point I don't care if people get vaxed. If 90% of the people who die are not vaxed, while sad you are right it is their choice. I had a remodel planned, and had my contractor picked out who is a customer of mine. The entire house was going to be done. It was a pretty good pay day for my contractor. The son is not vaxed. He understood my position and I am now on to another contractor. While I am saddened by his choice it is his choice.

Here is the biggest rub at this point because the anti or non vaxers aren't changer their minds. The younger ones don't get or care the impact it has on others because it doesn't affect their daily lives in terms of serious illness.

But here is where it affects me and my family and loved ones. When someone who isn't vaxed comes into a close circle of people and doesn't let us know they aren't vaxed. My old boss who is 71 got together with employees he paid for 20 years last August. Sort of a reunion. We went out to a outdoor happy hour. One of our fellow employees is a 75 year old guy who had some issue with regards to his kidneys. But he felt safe cause he assumed everyone was vaxed. It comes to light three days ago my old boss is an anti vaxer, we find out he was at an anti vax march. The guy didn't have the common courtesy to let us know he could potentially put us at risk, our parents or any friends or relatives that may have medical issues.

Clearly there will be economic issues, and not to mention the issues of school closures and what that may mean for a town of Pullman the next semester if we have an outbreak like that is being seen in Britain and now in the northeast. But again, no one at this point is changing their mind.

If it was from today’s morning edition with Steve Inskeep then I get what you’re saying - I don’t know that I’d go so far as to call it sneaky or disgusting ( eye rolling - yes) but as someone who works in healthcare and takes all of this very seriously I myself didn’t care for the tone of this at all - it did seem calculated to generate anxiety with the breathy urgent tone and pacing. At this point Omicron should be concerning since we really have no clue about how it will effect us but the fact is we’ve been here before with delta - they don’t need to oversell it.

From my experience this is hardly the norm with NPR: this is more like something I’d expect to hear on KBOO than OPB. I’ll add too that I’ve never cared much for Steve Inskeep. Disappointing for sure.

I am not sure at this point you can totally separate the two, as it doesn't make sense to me he is really preparing for the draft. I am not sure it is pure coincidence Abe, Beresford, and Ryan are leaving the program early, and I do wonder how much it has to due with the change in coaching and the reasons behind it. This may be their protest vote instead of quitting mid season.

Not what I said at all, or did I intend to claim that.

In a nutshell, based on the "excess mortality" numbers, significantly more people died in the USA from Covid as a proximate cause in 2020 than is actually reported. 352,000 is understated by up to 118,000. If I'm not mistaken, you claim that Covid as a proximate cause of death is overstated, right? Excess morality data indicate the opposite is true. If I misunderstood you, I'm sorry.

There is very little any of these kids can do to improve their draft stock at this point, so the idea of "getting better" is just absurd, especially over the course of what... 3 months? Not only that, but based on who gets drafted my feeling is that NFL scouting is much like the room of Athletics scouts in the movie Moneyball - they know what they know and that is what works and its always worked and and and... Its the reason why nfl gms aren't falling over themselves to get GMIII on their roster because they're too busy chasing Giambi. "Well, GMII is only 6'1" in cleats, and and and..." they literally have to make up excuses to discredit him because his numbers don't lie. Reminds me of RW in his first few years, and because ALL of the pundits whiffed on him they REFUSED to give him an ounce of credit for being talented beyond what they believed.

GM is better than several starting qbs in the league. He’s a better QB than Baker Mayfield who gets every opportunity to fail because he was a #1. GM is also a better QB than the guy he’s caddying for - he just doesn’t have that guys wheels. Besides his height he also gets discredited for his arm strength.

To me the classic example of a guy who was written off for being too small was Flutie. And then there was Warren Moon who toiled in the CFL for 6 years because he… um… didn’t fit the mold.

I thought he did well this year. He really benefitted from coming back. The penalties went way down.

Im sorry he is sitting out. I wish him nothing but luck.

I can't resist this one.

Ed, you may have heard that CDC is now recommending the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines over the J&J because of blood clot risk. There is plenty that will be learned about these vaccines as the real life beta test continues.
Do you actually think you're personal anecdotes mean anything?

It's a stretch to suggest the state's vaccine mandate is driving his decision to sit out the bowl game. But, even if that is the case, does that necessitate 3 pages of ensuing vaccine argument?

R has caught hell for his play at LT for several years. It will be interesting to see if anyone can do any better or how much of a drop off there will be. I’m leaning towards a drop off. Good lord, this is a very dangerous viewpoint! In this country everyone is guaranteed the right to form their own opinions and the right to express those opinions. But you wish to suppress the views/opinions of anyone that disagrees with yours. Are you scared that you might learn something that will force you to admit you were wrong or are you just intolerant of others views?

This viewpoint is exactly what is happening on platforms like Twitter, Facebook, etc, where discussion is not allowed, only agreement sharing is permitted. And if you were paying attention to such things, you would find out that often the accepted viewpoint turns out to be wrong. Think Jussie Smollet, Kyle Rittenhouse, the Covington kid, etc. And if you want to go WAY back, almost everyone in the world thought the world was flat, only a few brave souls thought it might be round.

There has been a lot of incorrect information preached as gospel with regard to the covid virus that later had to be discarded. Remember how at the beginning it was stated with conviction that the ones at greatest risk were the old folks and young kids? Turns out that was only 50% right, as it barely affected the kids at all. And the esteemed Dr. Fauci originally told us that there was no reason to wear a mask, and later changed it to you MUST wear a mask, then even should wear a double mask. WTF? Remember how we were told that everything would be great if we just shut down everything possible for 15 days? How did that pan out? Remember how we were told that it would take 4-5 years to develop a vaccine? Nope-got that done in less than one year! Remember being told that you would be safe if only you got the vaccine? Turns out that the vaccine loses its effectiveness pretty quickly, and you actually CAN still get the virus. Remember how they wanted us to all stay inside and then it turned out that more infections were happening inside the home than outside it? Oops. Do you recall how the use of hydroxychloroquine (sp?) was pooh-poohed and then a lot of doctors started to talk about how their patients were recovering from the virus much quicker when treated with it? yep.

The point of all this is to illustrate how what is thought to be a "known" can turn out to be wrong, and because of that it helps to keep an open mind. It helps to listen to other opinions and not discard them out of hand. Information changes as we have gone through this whole mess, don't be inflexible on what the "truth" is. I think it was Powell or Shwartzkapf (sp wrong!) that said when talking about war-"There are things we know we don't know and also things we don't know that we don't know". Same thing applies to this damn virus, I think anyone that takes a rigid opinion on it while refusing to consider other ideas is most likely going to be proven wrong in the end.

Also, in a global view, if the opinion censorship allowed to continue and spread through the mainstream media and social media, we will soon see the rapid decline in our country. It is essential to allow multiple views. Right, middle, or left-no side is right all the time. To suppress one side or the other will lead to ruin.
