Mateer 42 TD’s, tied at #2 all time with Minshew

Will he play another game? I don't like being this cynical but I am. He's a good college qb. He's better talent than most of this roster if not all. Rumors are he has had offers. Why, in a logical sense, should he play? Playoffs are out. High bowl game out. Not even the P12 championship is on the line. If he doesn't play I don't blame him. It the current setup of cfb.

No doubt he's leaving for (supposedly) 7 figures. But I don't see him quitting on his team, these next two games.

Two things. I was the Mateer advocate cheerleader 2 years ago, when I first saw him play. He won't be here next season. P4 conference with a better O Line and D Line, just like Ward.

2nd. Anthony Gordon is one of my all time favorites. Then he went undrafted in the 2020 NFL draft. Go figure.

I see a scenario where Minshew and Dickert stay along with the rest of the cast with transfers as reinforcements to make a run at the playoff in 2025

I dont think Mateer is afraid to play. It's obvious by his style he is not afraid. I'm just saying the landscape of CFB has changed so much I wouldn't surprised if nor angry at him if he didn't play.

Anthony Gordon dealt with a defense that surrendered 32 pts per game. Was that defense really any better than this one?

If Gordon had been capable of using the left side of the field, he would have been drafted. But he wasn’t.

If even half of what Leaf and the other talking head last night said was true, Mateer likes everything about WSU/Pullman and wants to be there.

That being said, it’s tough to imagine a 20 year old turning down a 7-figure payday unless there are some giant strings attached. I wouldn’t do it if it was going to UW, who’s probably going to be looking for another new coach in a year, or to some other situation that is less than rock solid for 2 years.

Mateer, and everybody in the know(coaches, players, friends, family, experts, pundits, former players, etc), have been saying how much Mateer loves WSU, and is probably going to stay at WSU. Mateer even hinted that he was going to stay at WSU in a interview I saw on You Tube.

Next the Couch, GM, You Tube show(comparable, credible like Puck, Canzano, Wilner, Dodd, etc), said that Mateer is getting 300k currently from Northern Quest, plus what getting from WSU, Cougar Collective(NIL group).

Next season, they said that Northern Quest will pay him more, about 400k to 500k, plus get more from the collective(About 165k to 333k), for about a grand total of about 650k to 750k to 850k, this coming season at WSU.

That's only about 333k less then what other colleges offered. And if he goes somewhere else, he might not end up in as good a spot as he is in at WSU.

And if he stays at WSU he probably be part of CFP, CFP run, winning a CFP game, etc.

Everyone in the know, thinks Mateer will stay at WSU as long as Dickert stays.

If he were to skip the game next week...nobody should want him. Skipping the bowl game to prep for his next school? I'll never root for him again but I wouldn't be "mad". I just don't expend energy rooting for guys that play for the opposition....and everyone outside of WSU is the opposition.

And Mateer should definitely chase the money. I think he's a great dude and he's a ball player, but he is not an NFL talent at the QB position. He's a running back with a decent arm. He may get on a roster but the NFL will eat the dude alive. So, I won't be mad if he goes after those NIL dollars. I would if I were in his position.

"He's a running back with a decent arm". 🤣

Statistically, the 2019 defense was better. Massey says our current defense is #93 and the 2019 defense was #67. A lot of that is based on strength of schedule though. When it comes to points, the two teams are similar. The difference is that the 2019 team gave up 120 points in the OSU and UCLA games. Our worst pair of games this year was 97 points and one of those was double OT. Outside of those outlier games, both teams sucked a quite a bit on defense.

When you look, the 2019 and 2024 are similar. The 2019 team was 5-1 at home with the only loss being a game that they should have won. They were 1-5 on the road. Of course, the road teams that we lost to were a combined 47-20. This year, our road competition opponents are a combined 29-26 so far. Realistically, this is probably a 6-6 team against that record...if we are lucky.
