Do you ever attend games? Be honest.Simply don't go. I know I am not.

Why would it matter either way?So plugging in Southern Utah would be better?
Really?for a home game with recruits visiting? Yes.
You sound like a cuck. Are you into watching other dudes bang your old lady by chance? When and with who? We just signed a 5-year contract with the #4 team in the Nation that includes 2 Pullman games and 1 in a top NFL venue. Take UW's name out of this and replace it with Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama, or Florida State. Do you say to no it? Would every other MWC say yes to it?
"Not a big deal. We need the money, (uh....we may walk away with $200M after legal expenses), and they still come to Pullman", (we only beat the Dawgs 2 out of 10 games, and we still lose to them in Pullman)! Not a big deal. We need the money and they still come to Pullman.
WTF is wrong with you? We're having a discussion about scheduling, and you bust out this garbage? I get it, I was young and dumb back in the day too, but if you don't have anything to add, just sit back read the posts. You sound like a cuck. Then don’t do a home and home. If we have to play body bag games, play them. Just like we did up to 2014.WTF is wrong with you? Trust me, UW fans are more pissed off about this than we are. WSU wins with this decision. No SEC or blue blood B!G program would agree to a home and home with a G5 program with a 32K seat stadium.

If we can find anyone to play, we will be playing those as well. We currently have 5 games scheduled for 2024 and 2025.Then don’t do a home and home. If we have to play body bag games, play them. Just like we did up to 2014.
And you do sound pretty cuckish.
Because I think this is a good business decision for the next 5 years? Marketing priority #1 for WSU was maintaining a presence in the Seattle market. 5 years from now, when the Big12 and the ACC implode, WSU will have had an annual National game against a B!G opponent. I don't see a downside to that. What other G5 program has a game like this to draw National eyeballs? Then don’t do a home and home. If we have to play body bag games, play them. I'm done doing business with a university who continues and collectively sabotage WSU's efforts. When and with who? Unfortunately, we'll never be done doing business with the other State University in WA. Maintaining this game ensures that WSU is playing a National game against a power conference school. It gets eyes on TVs and reminds media networks that we're the #2 market draw in the NW. That can't be a bad thing. Why is it a good business decision to do business with an entity that seriously ****ed you?
Priority 1 is Southern California, 2 is Northern California. Seattle is a distant third, at best.
What national eyeballs are gonna watch this game in September? The only national interest was driven by conference implications.Because I think this is a good business decision for the next 5 years? It's not that it's a bad thing, it's completely irrelevant and doesn't tip the scales in any direction. It's nothing more than political cover by the Admin. It's the path of least resistance. They know where we're headed and they know this changes nothing. It's a CYA move to make the MWC landing more palatable. The problem is, it's gonna run even more fans off. It's not gonna keep 1 player from transferring out that has the ability to and it won't net 1 recruit we wouldn't otherwise get.Unfortunately, we'll never be done doing business with the other State University in WA. Been attending games since 1960 (thanks dad.) Just to be honest.Do you ever attend games? Be honest.
I'm done doing business with a university who continues and collectively sabotage WSU's efforts.
I would be more than happy to schedule with any other program. But UW can pound sand. They have a problem with their schedule next season...so WSU's accommodates? WSU owes them nothing.
This administration has zero pride.
Are you freaking kidding me?Contrarian to who? This game is the single biggest event on our sports calendar. We can’t get super conference programs to Pullman. Students and local businesses love the idea of 2 more Pullman Apple Cups.
This was a no brainer agreement as soon as UW said yes to traveling to Pullman.
Yes... but again... I'd rather fly down to fUSC... Whoregon... etc...So plugging in Southern Utah would be better?
FUSC is the program that started all of this. There's a program I have no desire to ever play again.Yes... but again... I'd rather fly down to fUSC... Whoregon... etc...
uw has a scheduling hole. Remember when the new AD said he wanted seven home games? This is driving a few miles south on I-90 and not paying a guarantee.UW has a schedule, we don’t. No accommodating here
National game? Says who? You going to pick up the Big 10 network to watch this?
Fair... but you can't tell me that you would ever cheer for the fuskies in that matchup.FUSC is the program that started all of this. There's a program I have no desire to ever play again.

Lot of good arguments both ways. Patrol getting a lot of vitriol here but he makes some good arguments. They are now a non-conf power 5 opponent of national stature. And yes if Iowa, Michigan State, or North Carolina wanted to schedule home:home with a neutral site game in their backyard we’d take it, the $$, and the exposure in a heartbeat.FWIW, the Apple Cup has been shown (or scheduled to be shown) on the following networks

The odds are that as long as we can keep the game entertaining to watch, it will continue to be a nationally televised game. Next year, as long as we don't go into the toilet, is almost guaranteed to be picked up because of the storyline as much as anything else. Past that, it's going to depend on what happens with our program.
As much as some of our fans hate it, continuing the Apple Cup is the right thing to do. Chun said that the student athletes are the ones that wanted to continue to play the rivalry. And we are going to need the money.
FWIW, those were before WSU was relegated to group of 5, and often when the game was played on the Friday after Thanksgiving with little competition. Now we're talking quasi-independent status for WSU and September 14.FWIW, the Apple Cup has been shown (or scheduled to be shown) on the following networks

Edit: The 2021 Apple Cup was the highest rated game on FS1 that weekend with 1.21 million viewers. The other six games that FS1 showed on that weekend (Thursday, Friday and Saturday) failed to get higher than 520K in viewership. People watch the AC.
We haven't been relegated yet. A glass half full outlook, and I'm not necessarily there yet, is that we walk away with a nice chunk of change and rebuild the P12 with the top (not all) of the MWC and add an East coast pod of comparable programs.FWIW, those were before WSU was relegated to group of 5, and often when the game was played on the Friday after Thanksgiving with little competition. Very much so.Any of y’all think this could all be for naught…legitimate possibility…”neutral site” next year, UW says uh….sorry we can’t make it to Pullman in ‘25. We say FU to ‘26 in response…game over, last time we do this is in lumen next year. I mean the shit they pulled at the 11th hour to kill the conference, I’m highly skeptical they have any intention of coming to Pullman.

I think continuing the Apple Cup at this point in time makes the most sense. Everything is off the rails right now, and it happened suddenly. Our athletic department is in active litigation with the P12, we don't have a conference, we don't have a schedule, players and coaches are getting restless, the portal is opening up, season ticket renewals will coming due soon. Inking the Apple Cup extension makes sense given everything that's going on. It's a game against a power conference opponent on National TV with limited travel and it provides a sense of normalcy to the fan base.Patrol, I can honestly say that you have some of the most common sense discussion/debate/analysis when it comes to the Cougar Football chat room.
That said... I still think you're totally off on what needs to be done and why... and when regarding the "Apple Cup".
The only smidget of you making a good point on this is making a "big team" coming to Pullman.
Do you really think that if we play the fuskies in Pullman every 3 years (which is what it would inevitably become) that its better for us than...
A) Playing a weaker team to increase the probability of getting wins
B) Playing MAJOR power teams in away games every year = Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama, etc...
Again... I think the best hope we have in all of this is WSU & Oregon State making the NEW PAC WEST conference with:
WSU
Oregon State
Fresno State
Boise State
Wyoming
Colorado State
San Diego State
UNLV
Utah State
Nevada
Air Force
New Mexico
IF THIS HAPPENS (which is no guarantee) and we use Las Vegas for our conference championship... you're really thinking that us playing the fuskies is the financial salvation?
I'm just not seeing it.
Five hundred million dollars for one game? Where did that come from, what are you smoking? You gotta know when to stop hitting the zero key.Are you freaking kidding me?
If the Apple Cup is on the Thanksgiving weekend where the town is dead you really think that we get $500,000,000 of unmatchable revenue?
Just have 2 more concerts and have some sort of State/Regional Youth Athletic Tournament and you'd get the same or more.
At the ULTIMATE best... we get 35,000 people in Pullman for Apple Cup.
You think that can't be replaced?
Schnictpter says what?
Not to mention scheduling a slate of games against “weaker teams” to rack up W’s is a great way to become one of those “weaker teams”. The coaches you want want to coach against top programs and the players you want want to compete with them. We’ve got to find a way through this to put some compelling games together that will keep WSU interesting. Playing 10 straight weeks of largely unknown schools won’t do that.I think continuing the Apple Cup at this point in time makes the most sense. Everything is off the rails right now, and it happened suddenly. To answer your questions. We have to think differently about scheduling weaker teams to increase the probability of getting wins. If it were me, I'd be on the phone with Idaho right now to try and get more regular, if not annual games with them back in the fold. Yes, boring to some degree, but also a pretty sure bet at 25K fans with no travel required. Apart from that, there is already going to be a feeling of "lame stepdown" in the minds of our fanbase for a few years. Wyoming, San Jose, New Mexico, Nevada, etc. Adding Southern Utah or Montana School of the Mines to the home schedule, particularly right now, isn't a good idea.
Playing major teams on the road for body bag games is probably something that's going to happen, but again, it wasn't going to happen right away. Schedules are locked down, and the Power Conferences are going to tread lightly with regard to scheduling higher end G5 programs for body bag games with the expansion of the playoff to 12 teams. Why would Alabama, Michigan, or Ohio State choose to schedule us instead of Idaho or Weber State? They don't need strength of schedule anymore. They just need to finish in the top-3 in their conference to make the playoff.
No, I don't think playing the Huskies is our financial salvation, and I don't know if the series will continue beyond 5 years. Hell, UW may end up backing out of it and paying a buyout fee. This makes a lot less sense for them than it does for us. For the here and now, I understand why our AD made this decision. They have so much on their plate already. This was a scheduling no brainer for them. It immediately solved the problem of getting a power conference team on the schedule and a National game on TV.
