Costa Rica in a heartbeat. Panama just didn't do anything for me. Perhaps some of the Panama ex-pat communities are different but that place seemed like one of the most foreign places I've ever traveled. Never really felt all that safe walking around Panama City at all.

Yeah I've been meaning to follow up with you on that. Nobody here, tico, gringo, Venezuelan or otherwise, has had good things to say about Panama and have completely contradicted the travel blogs and magazines.

There was a scene in Narcos when Escobar and his crew had to leave Colombia and they went to Panama...and that scene depicted everything that people down here has said about Panama(crap food, srude an shitty service etc)

Service was non-existent in Panama. Maybe its cultural but we didn't have a single meal where we didn't have to flag down the server - even to pay the bill.

The food was surprisingly bland. Like worse than British food bland. Surprising given the offerings from South American like Peru (mind blowing cuisine) or farther north in Mexico.

Glad I visited Panama but it's not on the list of places upon a return visit will be had.

These folks may be the poster boys for confirmation bias but something led many of these people to the trough of rightwing Christian fundamentalist extremism in the first place. You can point a lot of fingers - The Tea Party, Federalist Society, Fundamentalist Christian churches, Newt Gingrich, Ronnie Reagan and GWB leading the charge to feed the Christian fundamentalists in exchange for votes, etc… and surely people like Rush Limbaugh were warping feeble minds to great effect first but FOX on cable opened the floodgates and sucked a lot of people into the vortex and has been the biggest propaganda tool for warping minds.
