New coaches

leave it to BX to get the spin cycle going.

idgaf who you bring in, the program is f'd for at least this season.
We lost to Utah State for crying out loud. If we just beat them we would have to go 1-4 in the remaining games to be bowl eligible.

They are band-aid hires. The spin that these are great hires by Dickert let's us know that this article was drafted long before word broke and the details were filled in when the hire was made. Spin is Dickert is amazing sauce. Let nothing conflict with the narrative.

Let's see how the year finishes up and who the permanent hires are to round out Dickert's staff.

Yup, band-aids over gaping holes. This has to be a tough spot for any coach to step into and fill the void. Hopefully they can provide some stability the rest of this year.

I do think they look like good hires given the cluster **** of this situation.

In every negative situation there is a possibility for growth. I will reserve my opinion for what I see on the field. It is obviously not prime conditions, but sometimes good coaches only need the opportunity. See you Saturday and V GO COUGS!!!

They are "great" because they know an offense and the terminology no one else runs. So to get people in there that have a working knowledge is a "great" short term hire. If we ran the run and shoot or another offense my guess these two guys wouldn't be the great hire.

I understand ragging on Brand X when warranted, but while I might be missing it, I don't see anything claiming these guys are great coaches or great hires by Dickert. I just see them reporting who these guys are and a description of their experience. I don't expect Brand X, nor Scott or WW, to report that two guys were hired to stopgap roles and then to editorialize that they suck.

These "band-aid" hires are as good or better than many of the assistant coaches that we've had over the years.

I think we're incredibly fortunate to have found guys with their pedigree and familiarity with the RnS, along with their ties to the West coast and some of our existing coaches and players.

These guys have zero P5 experience between them, are old, and know a niche offense. That's the definition of a hire to get you through the season.

Question is what do you do after the season? Let's say Chun decides to retain Dickert. Gotta think these guys stick around. Now what? They know the offense, but we don't have a single recruiter on the offensive side of the ball. Plus it's not like there is a coaching tree of RNS guys to plug in when the season is over. If I had to venture a guess, we will be running a new offense next year.

Gettin' way ahead of ourselves here. Let's allow the rest of this season to play out, see if Dickert can do the job, and then see what kind of staff he puts together, assuming he gets the job permanently. I can't imagine he would simply keep the staff intact the way it is right now. But who knows?

Did you want to run a new offense mid season? These guys have a ton of relevant experience

Personally, I think these are home run hires considering it is middle to late October, and that the Run and Shoot is a niche offense. It is not as if they were going to hire a coach from an existing staff, and even if they did, they likely wouldn't know the offense.

That's way off the "we are the U of Rolo" message. WSU is Rolo, Rolo is WSU and always will be. F**K the kids and the people trying help them.

Personally, I disliked Leach, despised Wulff for the baseless Doba assault, but I didn't stop sending in the checks or stop rooting for the Cougs. Call me old school, AKA a loyal Coug, first and last.

I prefer old school. Bought two extra seats this weekend and donated them. I think it is important more not less.

Walden, Erickson, Price, Doba, Wulff, Leach Rolo drive the bus. Sometimes longer, sometimes shorter. They aren't the bus. Not getting a shot was more important to him than the 105 kids he was in charge of, the families he brought to Pullman. He is gone, and I cant wait for the game on Saturday. Not because i think they will win, but I think they will play. Win or lose, they will show what it takes to push threw adversity.

Like when Wulff left I haven't wished one day he was back in town. He tried his best, but like an old girlfriend it didn't work out.

There is no reason to assume that these guys are being hired on as permanent coaches. Everyone knows that they are being brought in to help out in a bad situation. If we win games and do well, why wouldn't you want to keep them? If we don't do well, they are going to be gone along with Dickert.

I don't understand the handwringing at all. Some of you would prefer that we just have De Laura out there calling the plays?

You should do a better job trying to conceal your love affair with Tucker C. Your mouth-drooling obeisance to him is embarassing--even to us libtard radicals.
Lol I'll give it the ole' college try... Even for a lunatic leftist as yourself. It's obvious you got sucked into the collegiate indoctrination. I bet that gender studies degree is paying off now for you.

Logic escapes you once again.

There's a reason they've never held a P5 position before. It's highly unlikely that all 5 will be the super magic secret sauce we've been missing for the past 100 years.

Nobody is expecting miracles from these guys. They are here to help the players in whatever way they can to still win games for the balance of THIS season. As a fan, I appreciate their willingness to step in so quickly in such a difficult situation. I'm sure they know it's not likely to be a long term situation.

p.s....coming in mid-year, I'd rather these coaches have run & shoot experience with no P5 experience than the other way around.

Which power five did Rolo and stutzman coach for in previous stops ?

You're really on tilt about this Rolo situation, man. Nobody is claiming these guys are the secret sauce that WSU isn't had in 100 years. They're guys who are being brought on board for a 6-week gig to help triage a shitshow, and major reasons for these guys, in particular, being hired are (i) the nature of the gig, which has obvious implications (almost everyone else already has a job, nobody wants to show up in Pullman for 6 weeks for a temp gig for an interim coach, etc.) and (ii) nobody other than Rolo runs the R&S or has for years.

If possible I don't think you want to just throw coaches at the situation. Things still could hit the fan but it's a plus they have experience in the RnS. Also Morrison having some sort of connection to de Laura probably doesn't hurt as well.

Now that the staff has been filled, it seems as though Dickert isn't pegged as the long term guy by WSU. Which might be for the best.

Has anyone on staff been pounding the pavement in recruiting over the last 3 months? If they all think they are out at the end of the year regardless, it explains a lot.

The deck stacked against Dickert to get the job, but our options were going to be very limited on what coaches we could get at this time of year, especially running the Run and Shoot. I highly doubt he's getting the job unless a miracle happens and we win the North or something.

I would love to keep Dickert and Cooper on staff though. You can see the coaching and development on the field. The DE's have been phenomenal this year and Thorton was a stud Saturday with Jahad out.

Do you think he's tired? There's a bunch of old geezers in the NFL.
Judging by his Bio pic he looks ready to line up.
