Well i must say that i am underwhelmed by the new guy. Just woke up and saw the news. From what i remember,this guy is not a world beater based on the videos i saw. I guess the "pruf is in da pudding" We shall see if he is better than projected. There is always the rumor that 4 PAC 12 schools and Gonzaga were interested.We shall see if Kent and company are sniffing out the hidden nuggets or just getting their asses beat on the recruiting trail

Robo has a nice upside sort of like Hawkinson, Boese, and many others you have scoffed at over the years.

Offered on Monday night after Blackwell and Grimes were lost to Fresno State and Long Beach State.

I will place Kent's recruits above the Hawk and Boese. The hawk had trouble chewing gum and walking at the same time time when he arrived. I hope for the young man's sake that he has improved drastically. Other wise you old timers will have to wave goodbye to the "oldtimers" on the current squad. Kent cannot afford to be sentimental if he wants to upgrade the roster if he wants to be truly competitive in the PAC 12

Amusing? I wonder what your thinking processes are? It seems to me that fans would want better players so that the team will be better? I also wonder if you think that Kent is a better coach than the dear departed coach? He would have to be to essentially play the same players and field a competitive team in the PAC 12. I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would want Kent to play against a stacked deck. Do you want Kent to succeed or do you want him to fall flat on his face? I guess that there are a few fans who think that last years' squad was capable of playing a competitive schedule . Most fans realize that they need an influx of talent. I truly believe that Kent and his staff are far better evaluators of talent than the dearly loved departed coach.Indeed i would not have given D 1 scholarships to some current team memebers
If Kents recruits cannot replace the rag tag players left behind than the cougs are in for another rough year.I hate to break i to you but the college basketball world is a competitive place. If last team members are beaten out so be it. The team will be better for it. Or would you rather they be given playing time they do not deserve to satisfy the local yokels while the team suffers defeat after defeat?. No thanks i had enough of that crap last year.. No i am not enamored of last years recruits and i want better players,better coaching and better results. All the players will have a chance to earn playing time. The best players need to play and will play. I do not care if you think that some players are rated higher than others. The past coach failed miserably in coaching,recruiting and vitalizing student and fan interest. The writing is on the wall and we shall see what it spells out.

As far as I'm concerned we only have one player that I consider local and that is Boese. You make good points about the competitive side of college basketball and that playing time must be earned. I for one completely except that and would love for some of these new comers to show up and be all world, because as you say the team would be better. IMO what you fail to want to admit in anyway is that coach Kent has not brought in recruits that at first appearance seem any different than what we are used to. 3 guards with very limited D-1 offers mostly unranked, a JC forward who it appeared was heading to Idaho. For next year Pollard who I liked based on what I saw at elite camp,(he is very similar to Hawkinson with less offense) a JC big guard/small forward who it seems to have blew up his senior year of high school,(very interested in seeing him tear up the JC's this year) and Frank who by your own evaluation was a little less than you were hopping for. ( Franks is far and away our most highly rated player recruited by coach Kent.)

I was really hopping coach Kent would have enough name recognition to instantly increase our recruiting. That does not appear to be the case. He is going to have to get something done on the court at WSU before any of that recruiting magic happens. As you know I don't think all the players on the roster are terrible. Are we going to have the most talented team in the conference? NO but the conference looks to be very down this year and if coach could pull a few nice wins, it would go along way in recruiting the following year.

Backups

1 Dunbar
2 Dexter
3 Cheatum or Boese
4 Hawkinson, Cheatum or Boese
5 Hawkinson

Lacy will be one of the top players in the league and Que is expected to have a good year, Dexter is a solid senior off the bench in multiple positions, Ike either has sophmore slump or break out year(hopping for the later) Longress, Railey and Hawkinson all gained valuable experience and should be improved. If everybody stays healthy and coaching is there and the league is as down as it appears, we could do ok. I know that is a lot of ifs to just be ok but thats how I see this year playing out.

Cheatum will probably start. To compare the hawk with Pollard is not quite right. The hawk cannot run the court and cannot jump. He is/was very limited athletically, does not have good lateral movement and was not worthy of a D 1 scholarship. Perhaps he will improve as he has size and good hands. Pollard has a lot of athletic ability,runs the court well and has very good lateral movement.Boese ,likewise cannot jump ,rebound or play defense..Boese can shoot but one wonders if he will be able to get his shots off.While the newcomers may not have been highly recruited they appear to have a lot more ability than last years players.But we will soon see, now that the first public showing is scheduled on October 11. If you are right and last years players do much of the playing, the cougs are in for a rough year Last years squad was not up to PAC 12 standards and were very limited athletically. The past coach found he could not run with the plow horses he had on the squad. The early hype of speeding up the game was just not possible.One hopes that allof Kent's recruits ean significant playing time.

I'm not sure if you have seen Pollard play but I have and he is not the player you described. He is behind Hawkinson at the same point in his career. Cheatum, I have only seen one full game video and he has the potential to be a solid PAC 12 player. I personally think he will always be a back up but could play a significant role off the bench, especially in his senior year.

OH yeah I don't know where you got the idea that Boese can't jump but that is wrong. Granted its not a big part of his game but he jumps fine, the foot speed i'll give you that

That lineup is not going to strike a lot of fear in opponents but Lacy/Que is potentially potent 2/3. Maybe Ike flourishes in this type of offense. It definitely seems a better fit for his talents than what we saw last year. Those 3 players didn't have an issue with confidence. It's whether Lacy can stay healthy, Que can get in better shape, and Ike can improve his overall game.

There's a lot of unknown behind those guys though. Railey had 1 great game which gives me some hope but was basically invisible otherwise. Mostly the same kind of thing with Kernich-Drew and Longress. Boese has his limitations but at least he play with a decent level of confidence and can obviously shoot it. The foot speed is an issue because he really is a defensive liability. I do believe Hawkinson has a role and can become a productive player in the rotation. No clue on any of the newcomers.

Biggest concern moving forward is Lacy is obviously done next year and who knows how long Que sticks around.

It is good to see the interest and differences of opinions starting to emerge. The fan interest has to be stoked and the embers ignited this year.The problem with Boese is that he was not able to move his feet and he was unable to get position for rebounding. A players feet are just important as his hands in the game of basketball.
