NFL Draft

The best thing that could happen to Cam is to sit behind someone for 2-3 years and learn / observe.

We know that won't happen but that's what should happen for his success and development.

This would be great for him, although I think it would need to be a pretty decent team that could protect him during practice and even during limited mop-up time. We all know that Cam's biggest issues come when he gets pressure, so any team with a subpar OL isn't going to give him a good situation for development.

I think there’s going to be a trade or two into the top 10 or even 5. There’s a couple of really intriguing players who are highly sought after. Jeanty is being compared to Saquan and the demand of premium running backs has shifted back up a bit considering defenses are going with smaller faster hybrid LBs to better defend the pass. I think that the year that Bowers had is creating extra buzz for Warren too and a team who needs a TE weapon may jump into the top 10 to snag him. Think this is the calm before the storm and Thursday is going to be really entertaining.

I'm seeing a lot of mocks with Jeanty in the top 10, and I keep seeing the Saquan comparison, but I just don't see it. Jeanty ran over a lot of mediocre defenses, but was handled pretty well by the better ones. He also doesn't really do much as a receiver. Also not sure how much gas is in the tank - he stayed health in 2024, but he had almost 400 touches.

What's pretty clear the last few years is that I don't really understand what teams are looking for anymore. Not so long ago, I think Cam gets a mid round grade and is considered a project. It's clear that he has physical tools but the mental aspects haven't caught up. But, teams are now looking less for truly effective players than for the ones that make a big splash and are fun to watch. And, I guess that reflects back to the fans....apparently they're looking for flash - the kids that are going to make shocking or exciting plays. And, while that's fun, to me it's also important to see players that win games. It's less fun to me if every highlight reel TD is offset by a dumbass INT or lost fumble. If you want an example...look at the 2023 Oregon game. It was fun for 3 quarters, and then we gave it away and ruined the whole thing.

Supply and demand.

Seems like there's a sort of twisted element of that...but it's never really been the accepted path to draft a middling QB with the first pick just because there weren't many QBs. Doing that doesn't make sense and never has. If there's not a QB who's worth #1...you don't take a QB.

This seems more like a change in what is considered valuable.

Or, NFL scouts view Ward differently than, let’s say, a certain poster on this board.

I don’t know about Ward but I am
In full agreement on Dickert now. When you look at it this way it is something…

Let's not forget that we almost lost that game. Final was 38-35, and if it was 2 minutes longer, we lose.

Ward had a great first half and then disappeared. OSU had blown coverage all over the place in the first, but pretty much shut us down late.

1st: 11-12 169 yards (long 63), 1 TD. 3 carries, 15 yards, 1 TD,
2nd: 8-8 124 yards (long 44), 2 TD. 4 carries, -3 yards
3rd: 6-9 63 yards (long 19), 1 TD. 2 carries, 0 yards
4th: 3-5 48 yards (long 35). 2 carries, 9 yards

Offensive efficiency for the game:
1st: 10 first downs. 2-2 on 3rd. TOP 8:20. 18 plays, 195 yards
2nd: 8 first downs. 2-2 on 3rd. TOP 5:43. 15 plays, 157 yards
3rd: 5 first downs. 0-2 on 3rd. TOP 5:50. 15 plays, 88 yards
4th: 4 first downs. 1-3 on 3rd. TOP 8:34. 17 plays, 88 yards

Cam Ward is an Alpha Male in athleticism and leadership. His accuracy is unreal. He proved his worth when he went to Miami and excelled under pressure in a new system.

As long as nobody blitzes or pressures him…then he turns into a submissive with a decision making disorder

Browns already made the best move of the draft. Moving back 3 spots, getting a 1, a 2, and a 4, and still getting the best DT in this draft. Nicely done.

Of course, it’s the Browns, so they’ll probably draft a punter in the first next season.

I’m not watching, so I don’t remember - is Shedeur Sanders at the draft? The Seahawks, Steelers, and Rams are the only QB needy teams left in the first round…how funny will it be if he falls to the second round? I don’t think he will, but seriously…I would enjoy that.

Yes he is. He probably won’t fall to the 2nd usually teams trade back to the first so they can have another year of team control for a fringe first round QB. Steelers linked to him at 21.

It’s interesting that while some experts think Shedeur is the best QB, 18 teams and counting have passed on him while Cam went 1. Like I said Cam woulda been the 7th or 8th QB of last years QBs were in this draft. Weird year.

Yeah, part of me is rooting for the Browns to trade back up and get him. Draft strategy wise, that would be a nice move.

Edit: Steelers passed on him, which surprised me. The Rams are the only ones left with their own pick who I expect might look QB.

Are you trying to say Biggs isn’t #1 pick material?!

Im not. Ive been on the field at both the Redskins and the Eagles practices. Andy Reid was too generous when I met him.

Also got high marks from Harbaugh when I took a kick back on the 8-10 yr olds I was coaching. But no, I am not NFL material.
