Not an offensive guru

Y'all worry too much. Football is just entertainment and nothing more. Leach has made our football team entertaining to watch. Years like this suck but you know what......another football season starts in August and it's another chance to see what we can do. Our defense is going to be more mature and stronger. We are going to see changes in leadership on defense in this offseason and the defense will be better overall.

Borghi is going to be great next year and most of our o-line is back. We'll miss Arconado, Winston and Patmon and but I'm super pumped about our wide receivers and seeing Calvin Jackson next year. Between Cooper, Cruz, De Laura and whoever else that Leach brings in (if he does), we are going to have a QB capable of throwing for more than 4500 yards.

You can choose to be the kind of person that always see the negative or you can be excited about our future. Your call.

Exactly. It’s the freaking cheezit snack cracker bowl and AF is a matchup made in hell for us.

life goes on. I’ve got nd psu winning big and LSU rolling ou. I’ll take Ohio state over Clemson but Clemson could surprise. Urban Meyer says osu has more team speed than anyone LSU included

if Memphis wins today I’d be shocked

Iowa’s coach Ferentz reminds me of chuck noll.
Iowa has had 4 four star recruits in four years and finished 10-3 Says something for coaching and playernn b development

I think if it were a conference game, Leach would have taken the FGs and we end up with 27. Certainly nothing to write home about, but how much can you really expect a team to score in 16 minutes?
2 of their 9 drives consisted of a sloppy 3 and out to start the third quarter when they needed a scoring drive, and a fumble (first play of drive I think) where the OLine and Gordon all looked like they had just woken up and walked out on the field. You aren’t helping your TOP with those drives. I’m not saying it’s all on the offense, but if we’re passing around blame they deserve their fair share. They had some flashy plays but were not efficient and were terrible in the red zone. Leach was out coached (QB being an extension of the coach the way this offense operates)

Bare minimum they should have scored 35. Even with limited opportunities that defense should not have been able to slow down the strength of this team. That was an awful offensive performance. The defensive scheme was atrocious and can’t be ignored, but the offense was bad.

We were two fourth down conversions away from scoring 35. The issue is we didn't have the ball all game.

I'm with Flat on this one. We all knew that this year was going to be a circus. No one knew if we were going to win 9/10 or 6/7. With a grad transfer QB last year bringing us to an 11 win season, no one had experience with that kind of scenario. Come into this year, I don't know if anyone knew how to react to Gordo. "Is 11 wins reasonable expectations or 7?"

But when our DC left, I was hopeful for a 6 win season. I've always contended that our expectations should now be at 6 wins... minimum! And a MAJOR cog in staff left, mid season. I don't know what anyone thought would happen with such a drastic hit. I believe that is a major, major impact.

Disappointing season. No doubt. I have had reservations on Gordo but wasn't worth coming out on it. Still isn't worth it... not going to badmouth a kid.

I look forward to next year with a fulll staff and I hope an incredible, talented, physical QB that will run this O efficiently, with talent and physicalness.

For all the complaining about coaching, the reality is our guys got beat all game long by less physically talented players who wanted it more.

Clay Markoff decided to not block properly leading to Borghi getting tackled on 4th and goal. Dez Patmon allowed a corner half his size to disrupt him twice in one drive leading to a punt. Max Borghi got stood up in a hole by a linebacker with more grit on 4th and 3. George Hicks allowed a runner to get by him and Tyrese Ross wasn't able to stop him a foot earlier for a just barely TD. Add in the countless times Air Force was able to fight for an extra 2-3 yards after the defender should have brought them down and you never get off the field. All the scheming in the world won't save you when players won't execute.

Did you copy and paste this post from when Turd was coaching?

They are going to pay $4,000,000. Theyve pushed tens of millions into facilities. They arent going backwards.

The days of WSU paying $600,000 and going with the coach that will agree to work for the least amount of $ are over.

Leach has shown you can win at WSU. Price has shown you can go to Rose Bowls at WSU. This idea that WSU doesnt have anything going for it is crap. The idea that no one worth a damn will come while paying this much money is total crap.

Rhule isnt coming. I live two hours from Baylor. He has had the NFL come after him the past couple years.

But since you want a list...
Jeff Tedford - who knows how his health is, but he can coach.
Any of Leach’s coaching tree.
Jim McIlwain - will he go back to BCS football?
Matt Campbell - wanna talk to him.
Beau Baldwin - not hot on another Big Sky coach but at least get him in an interview and give him the chance to wow you.
Charlie Strong - I wanna talk to him.
Derek Mason - I wanna talk to him too.
Jay Hill - Cleaned up a mess at Weber State. He is gonna get his shot soon enough.

That’s just a few guys off the top of my head. The market has changed since WSU was looking for a HC. These P5 head jobs are in high demand. They pay millions of dollars. You will see guys come out of the woodwork for the WSU job. Names you never thought you would head linked to WSU.

Don't discount WSU. Leach shows up at noon, vacations for months out of the year, doesn't have anywhere near the scrutiny from the media, has a fan base that doesn't pressure him, has a school admin that doesnt pressure him, has brand new football ops building.... makes $4,000,000 per year.

And you think there won’t be a line of coaches? Really?

Gee, you’re really on to something here. Let’s overpay a retread coach to come in and do worse than Leach! Brilliant!

What do you want to talk to Matt Campbell about? His golf game? Peace in the Middle East? The weather? His $6 million buyout?

Is Chun working for a NFL team? Than your idea for Rhule wont work.

So your list, of 1 name which you so bravely out forth, sucks.

Leach won 3 league games this year. His offense couldnt score more than 21 against a Mtn West team.

He isnt trending upwards. You act like he is a guru. He is not.

Your list sucks far more. Chrome off a trailer hitch sucks.

I have advocated for the defense in past games. I felt like there were multiple times this season when they played well enough to win the game even while looking poor.

I think the question is... what is a reasonable amount of points to expect from the offense? Meaning, if the defense holds a team to X points or less, it is on the offense if they dont score more.

IMO, WSU has much better talent on offense than the AF defense. WSU should have scored easily. The passing game has much better athletes than AF. I thought 21 was a low output.

For the sake of argument, what is the number of points that should be expected from the WSU offense in a game like this?

By advocate, you mean posting that Buddy Ryan would have punched Leach for averaging 40 points per game. And that the defense was good enough to win the conference. And that the Posse would have picked fights with this offense. The defense was totally jammed up all the time according to you.

After the UCLA meltdown qualifying for a bowl was a respectable season.

Isn’t that all coaching ? I get if this is the first four or five years of the program and you are recruiting and establishing an identity. But this isn’t the first time we saw Patmon short arm drop or even fumble .

We got physically manhandled on defense . No the scheme didn’t help , but where is the talent to over come even coaching errors . You think if we had Herc and eukale out there we would have been run over as we were .

Yes there we’re execution errors but you are asking mark off to execute an important block and how many snaps has he seen all season ? I have zero problem giving leach a mulligan and will give him one next year as well . But as it has been said the end of our innocence is long gone and this is big boy football, and let’s not pretend recruiting mistakes and attrition have not been part of the story .

If Chun can hire Matt Rhule then you fire Leach.

If Rhule goes anywhere, it's the NFL.

Gonna be honest, I hope I don't have to see Chun hire a new football coach. I'm still very much a Doubting Thomas on Chun and Schulz.

Overall, just glad this season is over and on to the next one. This was probably the most removed from the football team I've felt in years. However, I'm excited to see who is the new DC and I'll see my optimism for next season evolve from there.

All of these coaches being talked about wouldn't be able to recruit here and that's IF they even wanted to coach here. The list of coaches that could recruit at WSU to the level required to field a team consistently in the 8 win range is comically short. You have to have National name recognition (not just in football circles) or you have absolutely no shot here. There can be the odd year or two of good teams, but not consistently.

But then again is the saying "you're either coaching or allowing it to happen".
What are you suggesting? What options do you have as a coach in game? You can start pulling guys, but if it's more than one or 2 guys, you're gonna lose anyway pulling half a unit for backups. I suppose you could just pull the team off the field and quit playing.

I didn't say it...CML said it. You might consider it an inconvenient "re-tweet"

I know I have pissed and moaned a ton. Good grief. Not sure I said much after any of the losses, including the Apple Cup. And I am not the one wanting coaches on the hot seat or fired.

Where are the CBs? Where are they after eight years we should have had a dozen guys go in the NFL draft.

Oh Dblithers ...remind me again...unicorns and ??? Just hit me... juice boxes.

Pointing out our struggles at CB and why we struggled on that side of the ball and btw I didn’t say squat all year . So it wasn’t or will not be two years of “whining”

And for accuracy purposes I never mentioned a dozen guys going to the nfl, would simply like quality Pac 12 play .

Well, if the strength coach would quit hosing guys down in freezing temperatures I guess you would have less to bitch about? Maybe Wulff or Price will come back to takeover? It was totally mean to have Travis Long answer questions after the Utah game in 2012. Leach needs to run the ball more.

That’s the short version.

I’m realistic fan that knows Wazzu has limits. We have the smallest budget, we’re in the middle of nowhere, while it’s dope, it’s tough and expensive to get to, there isn’t a lot surrounding it, and the facilities are just OK compared to other schools.

You want a list?

Choate MSU
Brennen SJSU
Harrell
Todd Graham
Barry Odom
McElwain
You are arguing with some one that is clueless. He gets a like only 11% of the time. He does not see how money affects everything. Leach has overachieved at WSU. To be successful, WSU has to take advantage of every mistake their opponent makes. WSU has to force mistakes by the opponent while not making mistakes themselves. I had high hopes for this year. The defense was a disappointment, I am shocked that Tracy C did not work out as a DC. He got away from the speed defense. I thought he would be better than Grinch. Maybe, Leach trusted Tracy C too much and it was too far gone to save by the time TRacy C left.

Why you choose to bring up events that happened 7 years ago is a mystery.
Let’s deal with Wulff first . I wish he was never hired. I wish that Doba stayed one more year. I wish they did hire Prixe and If not him Sumlin. Wulff was hired into a bad fit for him. And when he was hired I wish they hired Leach for 2010, then again in 2011. Not sure what spraying the players has to do with Leach but whatever. Yeah I said I didn’t like long and oline being called out like that. Again if I recall that was 2012 .

DBlithers.....Since you seem to care about every word I type, correctly and otherwise, point me to something "negative" after UCLA? This years Apple Cup. Show me a time I ever went after Mike Leach's job.

And I hadn't mentioned the water incident since 2012, but you love to bring it up. Wulff, not sure I ever initially raised his name in a thread since the day he was fired.

You are conveniently leaving out the fact that one reason they had the ball only 16 minutes was because they couldn't move the ball. Or score.

Your argument is crap. As usual.

They had 366 yards on 50 plays and punted once. They moved the ball fine.

You do know that you have to score more points than the other team to win right?

Your alternative facts are fake news.

(Sigh)

Like I said, if it's a conference game, Leach probably takes the FGs and they end up with 27.

Not great, but what do you expect in 16 minutes.

Their drive summary would have been...

FG
TD
Fumble
TD
Punt
FG
TD
Downs

Your point is stupid. Trying to explain away the loss by saying WSU scored a certain amount of points in a short period of time??? They lost. How long it did or didnt take to not score enough points to win is irrelevant.

You are dim.

gordon failed to get the team into the end zone, twice and also fumbled giving up a score. put the blame where it belongs
