Not an offensive guru

DBlithers.....Since you seem to care about every word I type, correctly and otherwise, point me to something "negative" after UCLA? This years Apple Cup. Show me a time I ever went after Mike Leach's job.

And I hadn't mentioned the water incident since 2012, but you love to bring it up. Wulff, not sure I ever initially raised his name in a thread since the day he was fired.

RetardED,

You’re bringing up two instances in eight years. That’s how retarded you are. You go find six more and that will give on the average of one instance per season where you didn’t bitch. You know what that means? It means that you bitch and moan Incessantly. There were years of time where you only posted on this board after a loss, during back to back bowl seasons. You literally only posted after losses. Yet here you are, trying to pretend you’re something you’re not.

You go after Leach all the time. You don’t want him here, but for some reason you can’t admit that to yourself. You bitch about the offense and the lack of running game all the time. It’s your fault, not Leach’s, that you can’t figure out that coaches do things in different ways. You don’t get that if we recruit five OLs each year, there will actually be a functional offensive line. We don’t have to wait three years for that to happen. We don’t have to watch a QB get his butt kicked for two years to have one winning season. We don’t have to finish at the bottom of the standings for back to back seasons and hope to break out in the third year.

Leach is not your Iron Laws. He doesn’t have to be. He wins more often the he loses. And what’s really sad is that your Iron Laws should be telling you that WSU should never have winning season, and the fans should be happy about going 6-6 and to a bowl game. Yet here you are, bitching and moaning. Your brain is completely lacking in intellectual flexibility. Leach breaks the mold and you can’t handle it. Here’s a really simple example for you- this was a disappointing season and WSU still went to a bowl game. Put that into your Iron Laws and tell us how often that has happened.

That’s a huge issue I with how this version of the AR is run.

If your qb is having a bad night, oh well. There is no way to redirect. The decision to hand the ball off and lean on another player goes thru the qb that has been coached to keep throwing the ball. Ridiculous. QB struggling to throw? Can he run himself? Nope.

The scheme needs more diversity. Give the scheme and the kids some more outs if things arent working.

This is the most vanilla version of the air raid. It needs a tune up.

Biggs this is the same version of the air raid leach has been running for twenty years. There isn’t any other version of it.

Dblithers... you are so full of crap. Are you saying I went after him for the loss to Rutgers , or Portland State and Eastern? I “pissed and moaned for a day after losing the 18 Apple Cup.

You know what I disagreed with Leach about and was vocal . When Fall is strapped to a paddle and he made a flip remark about giving him the second half off. Or when he introduced Trump at a rally. And I would be equally vocal if he had done it for Hillary.

I like Leach a lot. I like my wife a lot. Doesn’t mean I am in lock step with either one.

Again tell me what was said this year after the UCLA loss.

There are no iron laws , sorry you don’t get that. It goes to expectations . Why would ANYONE believe Wulff or any assistant with a similar resume ... maybe the word is EXPeCT...for him with a similar roster that Price had in 90, 95, and 98 to be qb centric and having a winnjng season before their qbs junior year? But I digress. Go back to Rypien and Rosie for similar evidence . Blithers- no one ever said it couldn’t happen, simply saying based on data from history save Chad Davis with the nations best defense had won at WSU as under classmen.

I don’t bitch about not running the ball. It is who he is, but don’t tell me swing passes and the like are long hand offs. They aren’t. They allow teams like UW and cal to play dishonest . Their linebackers can drop immediately into the zone where they are trying to cross. But he can pass it as much as he wants.

Look at others after an ultra phenomenal job in 18 and not the best effort in 19 and some would consider a coaching change.

Don James has to recalibrate in 88. If Leach has to rethink recruiting or figure out how to get his most out of his talented players then he has time to do it.

Your insistent Shavers is gone. I have never called for a coach to be fired . Look in the mirror.

With regards to Gordon, when he would drift to his right that is exactly what Halliday did and more often than not something bad happened . Gordon should have learned to plant the foot, get six yards up the middle and have a second and 4 or 3 and 4 .

The blame was 100% on the defensive game plan. Good God, it looked liked a one sided high school game. AF did anything they wanted on the most basic plays. They controlled the ball 70% of the game.

This type of team puts pressure on your offense to score on every drive. Better score or else you wont get the ball back for a while.

WSU had an advantage at OL, RB, WR and QB. They should have had zero issues as they are bigger, faster, stronger at all positions. How does a defense stop an offense with such an overwhelming amount of talent?

The offense was out coached. Again.

Typically I defend the defense. They didnt play well. They couldnt get off the field. They didnt make plays. They gave up 31 points.

Did the offense play to potential? Did the offense take advantage of having better athletes? No and no. They played poorly too.

Chicken or egg. Does the team need to beef up it's D, thus if the O scored 21 points, it's still a win? Or does the Air Raid need something so if the D lets someone score 31, we score 70?

To me, we aren't lacking in talent on the O. That isn't our biggest "hole". The D is porous on the run. It seems to me, it would be easiest to fill where we are lacking the most, on D.

Saying that, it shouldn't be mutually exclusive but that's what this whole thread is based on... sooooo...

Also Biggs concept that CML is somehow going to change is moot. It's arguing for the sake of arguing. We hired CML, this is what we get. Don't like it, hire someone else or buy in, just like the players need to.

But this debate is all academic. CML will not change a whole bunch. Now saying that, we've seen CML do quite a bit, dependent on the players he has. The shuffle pass was quite affective for a while. With Cracraft the mesh was unstoppable, now not so much and not run as much. We've seen CML change things up but it goes to personnel. Or the QB isn't calling those plays as much.

With 25 recruiting spots to fill each year. You select one of each position on offense and one of each position on defense. That leaves three positions to fill depth issues from dismissals, transfers, and other issues.

And maybe some specialists now and then.

That’s what the recruiting classes have looked like for about three years. The problem has been we’ve had serious attrition on the defensive side, secondary in particular. The JC fix for in the 2019 class didn’t work. Hopefully Beekman is cementing himself as a starter. Langford was up and down, and the defense really needs him to work out.

Still retardED, or maybe we should call you hogwashED. Your brain is stuck in a misfiring loop. Your brain can’t handle that this isn’t 1988, 1990, 1995 or 1998, or that the landscape is different. This is your lack of intellectual flexibility at work.

Why do I need to look in the mirror? Doba needed to be fired. Wulff needed to be fired. I wanted them both fired and it was necessary for the betterment of the program. What doesn’t make any sense is your constant bitching and moaning about the most successful we’ve had in decades.

Truth is if AG and O have 12 or 13 possessions the Cougs win. The inability to get AF off the field killed us.

The D line (again) couldn’t get penetration on run plays. That’s a huge caveat to beating the option. If the qb or rb can’t run unchallenged down the line and around the corner it doesn’t work. Period. Ask Army what Navy’s defense did to them. Additionally the AF exterior linemen just crushed the end of the coug’s d line, over and over. Instead our d chose to frequently play a 3 man line with Stone playing at LB depth. This gave AF 3 or more yards before their ball carrier was even touched. Guy sitting next to us turned to me and said “what the hell is THIS? Indeed.

DBlithers-on. I get it is not 98, 91, 95. When Falk broke through in 2015 as a soph prior to that it was Chad Davis 20 years prior to that, and it probably happened one time in 40 years. I know that is hard for you to understand. So it has been broken, so that has not been mentioned by me sense. So why are you bringing up 94 or 98 with regards to the current coach. He has poked through those "Aluminum Laws" in which you would hope a top 15 coach would breach.

It is not 98, or 85, but what has to be breached for Leach is the Huskies and the Pac 12 north. No Iron law that says he won't, but if the 2020 Apple Cup was played tomorrow, and as the season panned out wsu is 7-4 and UW is 4-7 with UW playing their back up QB, do you think with history Las Vegas would have us as a favorite?

Like I said I never even contemplated after the lost to PSU that Leach should even be remotely on the hot seat. Others were putting out perspective coaches.

I am not the one who said Shavers should be gone, or that Leach should be thinking about it. Leach has earned enough rope that he will put together the staff he wishes to put out there.

And sorry when talking about defensive problems and recruiting problems you don't like my take on the corner issue.

And you do get I didn't post in the 2013 or the 2016 season and it had nothing to do with winning and losing. And please go back and tell me again how I went after Leach after the UCLA game, the ASU game, bitched about Eastern, Portland State, Rutgers, or other games.

Like I have said 100 times, a Tech fan gave this board the best advice, Mike Leach will lose a game that just kills you. It shouldn't be a loss. Then he wins a game he had no business winning. Oregon would have been a prime example of that this year.

And go over every recruiting class each year and tell me when the kids were recruited if I ever said one negative thing about those players and lack of stars. It hasn't been done.

I wonder if leach will fire his friends and drinking buddies on the coaching staff.?That is where it should start to fix things on the defense.

Well Blithers ... let me connect the dots. You bring up that this is not 91 or any other year of arguments I made during the wulff years . Those arguments aren’t made any longer cause Leach broke those barriers . Hope that clears it up for you .

Now let’s go back and talk about “complaints” I had in 2012 ... like the AD banning use of the hose in the sand pit .

Just say that he has known some of these assistants for a long time. Of course Mele hung around the bar in Pullman, brown nosed until he was hired and then totally screwed up the O Line . Instead of being fired he was reassigned to coaching RB s . What a complete joke of a coach. The Defensive coaches are not much better.

OK. What did Mele have to do with the OL? I will agree that the defensive coaches have not gotten it done and are a step down from Manning, Salavea and Wilson. But please tell us how Bellantoni and Shaver were Leach’s drinking buddies.

Yep I have mentioned it in an initial thread (one that you didn’t bring it up ) how many times? It was a dead issue in 2012 . You cant let it go. Maybe there will be an emotional statute of limitations for you, whether it is a decade, maybe two .

Mele was special teams coach before becoming running backs coach. Never had anything to do with the O line. Get your facts straight before making foolish comments.

By the way, Mele is mentioned by name more often by recruits than anyone else. He's easily the biggest hustler on the staff when it comes to recruiting. If you want to fire him, fine....but we should be adding good recruiters, not getting rid of them.

Glad Cougar

Unless it's 2018 the offense will always technically have room for improvement.

The one thing that never changes is that Leach - though I 100% want to keep him - is not a HC. He is an OC. Defense and ST will always be a complete wild card - and more often than not a terrible one - as long as he refuses to get involved.

You make it sound so seedy.Maybe he likes these guys. No matter how much you like a person...you still have to do your job and get paid to make the hard decisions. There are younger guys who can out coach a Roc, but the co-defensive coordinators out coached the shit show that was going on against ucla.

Uh Lincoln Riley is not mike leach

Leach runs his version of the air raid which is the same one he’s always run

Let's not.

Did you copy and paste this post from when Turd was coaching?

They are going to pay $4,000,000. Theyve pushed tens of millions into facilities. They arent going backwards.

The days of WSU paying $600,000 and going with the coach that will agree to work for the least amount of $ are over.

Leach has shown you can win at WSU. Price has shown you can go to Rose Bowls at WSU. This idea that WSU doesnt have anything going for it is crap. The idea that no one worth a damn will come while paying this much money is total crap.

Rhule isnt coming. I live two hours from Baylor. He has had the NFL come after him the past couple years.

But since you want a list...
Jeff Tedford - who knows how his health is, but he can coach.
Any of Leach’s coaching tree.
Jim McIlwain - will he go back to BCS football?
Matt Campbell - wanna talk to him.
Beau Baldwin - not hot on another Big Sky coach but at least get him in an interview and give him the chance to wow you.
Charlie Strong - I wanna talk to him.
Derek Mason - I wanna talk to him too.
Jay Hill - Cleaned up a mess at Weber State. He is gonna get his shot soon enough.

That’s just a few guys off the top of my head. The market has changed since WSU was looking for a HC. These P5 head jobs are in high demand. They pay millions of dollars. You will see guys come out of the woodwork for the WSU job. Names you never thought you would head linked to WSU.

Don't discount WSU. Leach shows up at noon, vacations for months out of the year, doesn't have anywhere near the scrutiny from the media, has a fan base that doesn't pressure him, has a school admin that doesnt pressure him, has brand new football ops building.... makes $4,000,000 per year.

And you think there won’t be a line of coaches? Really?

You haven’t caped for Derek Mason?
