The Shooting was terrible.
That said, Mullins, Rodman, Bamba, Powell, have had 43% to 89% 3,4,5,6,7 out of 6,7,8,9, 10 3 point shooting percentage, makes, etc, games.
Most recently Jabe Mullins went about 87%, 13,14,15,16,17 made 3's in 2 games.
Powell had a mini version of that in 1 game.
And Team wise, the team made a record about 83%, 19 3's in 1 game, in blowing out Detroit by 50 points.
And according to Rivals, WSU was about Top 33 in nation, in 3 point shooting percentage, about 2,3,4, etc, games ago, before the current 1,2,3 game cold streak.
The reality has been that because of injuries, like everything else, WSU players, team, has not been able to DEVELOP CONSISTENCY shooting and other things wise.
It's been FEAST OR FAMINE, for players, team, 3 point shooting wise about 50/50 of time.
The team is like Dr Jeckle, and Mr Hyde, in that you don't know which get, and about 50/50 split.
Would be nice if WSU could save some of these makes for other teams, instead of blowing out a team by 50.
Would be nice if WSU could consistently shoot, 39% from 3 instead of, 7 out of 8, from 3 in game 1, and 1 out of 13 in game 2, rinse, wash, repeat over and over, losing the bad shooting games, and winning the good shooting games.
The more problematic problem was the BUTTER KNIFE EXTREME BAD 3 POINT DEFENSE WSU was playing.
If WSU had played better defense and not left the best 3 point shooters in the entire nation, 13 yards open, the game would have been closer, 3 to 6 points instead of a BLOWOUT.
That's the story of the game. EPIC BAD DEFENSE by WSU, Utah State making every one of their LOTS of 3 point shots, and WSU missing every one of their shots.
If WSU hadn't had such good defense, and the 90% from Charity stripe, the blowout would have been by 70, as that's how INSANELY HOT UTAH STATE WAS(NO BEATING THAT), and HOW EXTREMELY BAD WSU'S DEFENSE WAS.
And it wasn't even the Utah States own BAD DEFENSE. It's just that WSU couldn't exploit that because of their TERRIBLE SHOOTING.
Just give me 39% from 3, WSU, instead of 95% 1 game, and 5% next game.
And play better defense.
Defense is usually, and has been Smith's, WSU's strong point, including this season, but not against Utah State.
I recall under the Bennetts we'd play teams and their fans would be perplexed after the game that their usual good shooting ability inexplicably was horrible.
It was funny that they didn't understand that it was not a fluke. It was because the Bennetts knew how to defend and make other teams uncomfortable. Thus, they'd shoot poorly.
Teams get hot against us because we can't defend. Also, our offensive scheme sucks.
Smith has to do better.
Yeah agreed against Utah they shot 4/30, Hawaii 3/13, GW 7/26. When numbers like that continue to show up its pretty telling. We aren't out there playing the best defenses every single night while the other team "gets hot". Its bad shooting vs. good shooting.2/17 on the 3 ball. It's hard to fathom that kind of ineptitude.
Smith needs a new analyst for Nerdball - one who has basic math skills.Yeah agreed against Utah they shot 4/30, Hawaii 3/13, GW 7/26. When numbers like that continue to show up its pretty telling.
