Nice to see they reached out to Kassidy Woods for his opinion. I’m sure they expected that to be fair and reasoned.
IF his religious exemption is approved, we shouldn’t hear any confirmation of it. This article makes it sound like it’s unlikely an accommodation can be made, but I don’t think that’s true. He’s been doing the job unvaxxed, he can continue. Question for Chun is whether he can do all phases of his job adequately. I think Shultz’s opinion is toward the negative, based on the quotes included (although who knows what context the reporter tweaked or left out).
If his religious exemption is not approved, He can appeal or he can get vaxxed, but either of those processes will take time, and won’t happen before the 18th. So…he’ll be on unpaid leave as of the 19th and will not be allowed to work. No practice, no recruiting, and he will not be able to coach against BYU (in theory, his appeal could be fast-tracked to avoid that, but doing so would undermine the anonymity). He could also get vaxxed any time before Saturday (J&J) and be back on the sideline the following week (would still miss BYU).
My expectation is that his exemption will be approved (unless he was a complete idiot and mentioned magnets, 5G tracking chips, or just wrote “FU” on all the questions). Question is whether the governor will step in and demand additional review if that exemption is approved. I would not be surprised.
Frankly, I’m beyond caring whether he gets the shot or not. At this point I don’t think he’s good enough a coach to fight over…but he’s also not good enough to pay $3M.
