Today's the day SDSU has to clearly declare it is leaving the Mnt West to save $17 million, preferably accompanied by in invite from our gutless Pac leaders. I mean WTF?

PAC-12 so-called leadership is LAME!!! This looks to be heading to a burning dumpster, the longer this is put off.

Pete Thames with Bleacher Report just wrote that SDSU withdrew its request to leave the Mountain West Conference. If true, it looks like the PAC-12 might be headed for oblivion. Bummer.

I've taken a lot of shit for saying the conference leadership is inept (been true for 20+ years) and the economics on media rights is not favorable right now. Not even I thought they could screw up the addition of SDSU.

I saw that it was Cal and Stanford killed it…anyone else verify? Just don’t understand knowing the two SoCal schools are leaving why they’d think this was bad for the conference? I think we moved closer to midnight on pac12 implosion…we might be needing an invite to the MWC soon.

Dr. Schulz himself said this month that he’s 70% percent confident the Pac-12 gets a good media deal

Wouldn’t the President of WSU know the facts as well as anybody?

70% confidence of getting a good media rights deal, expressed by one president, doesn't mean there will be a good deal at all or that it will be done at any particular time, leaving aside all of the political wrangling, all the approvals from various stakeholders for the deal, the deal covering expansion in a way SDSU likes and that it knows makes more sense than whatever the Big 12 might offer, and so on.

I'm genuinely amazed. My expectations for conference and university leadership in the Pac-12 are very low, but there is no way I thought these clowns would screw up bringing in SDSU. I wasn't aware of the 7/1 doubling of the exit fee until recently, but even if I had been, I'm amazed these guys couldn't be mindful of that and get this thing done in time. To be fair, we don't know how long the Big 12 was negotiating its deal, and it had a simpler situation, but it felt from news flow like those guys got theirs done in, what ... a couple weeks?

Geezus Christ Choppy - will you quit worshiping Schulz? He has proven himself to be a F-ing idiot, Athletics and academically wise.

F-ing Big-12 will snap them up, and we will look like the fools we are. Kliatkoff was a huge mistake. Dumb F-er.

We are so f-ing stupid. My 2 year old granddaughter could run the Pac better than this. Geezus Christ.

Been wrong plenty of times (as my wife reminds me), but I still have confidence in Dr. Schulz to get things done.

He said he would build an IPF and it sounds like we'll have shovels in the ground when the Badgers come to town.

He said things are looking good for a new media deal and it looks we could hear good news in three weeks at the Pac-12 media days.

Jon Wilner of the San Jose paper believes in Doc Schulz as well — and he's probably the No. 1 Pac-12 expert in the entire West Coast media industry.

Per Wilner:

"Schulz’s grasp of the college sports landscape ranks with that of any president in the Power Five.

He was Kansas State’s boss when the Big 12 lost Nebraska (to the Big Ten), Missouri (SEC) and Colorado (Pac-12).

He’s a member of the College Football Playoff Board of Managers and played a key role in expanding the event.

And he’s on the Pac-12’s executive committee, along with Stanford’s Marc Tessiere-Lavigne and Washington’s Ana Mari Cauce (chair), which sets the agenda for the board and works closely with Kliavkoff."

Hard to argue with those credentials

well they screwed the pooch on the SDSU deal. Impossible to argue with that F-up. Stupid bastards.

And the IPF - that has been in process for 20 years. I donated $100 back in the day, wonder if my promised brick will come to fruition. So just because he finally got us to the finish line (yet to be seen) doesn't make him or Chun some mirical workers.

Well hopefully the P12 can get Fresno St. And either UNLV, or SMU.

Fresno St. is NOT even a good choice, but at least Fresno is a awesome football program, and at least has a just barely by skin of teeth semi ok number of people that may, can be semi good TV viewers, and at least gives P12 access recruiting wise just like a lesser version of SDSU.

But even tho that's the case, since the P12 leadership BLEW getting SDSU, something which should have been unblowable, the P12 will blow getting Fresno St, and UNLV, and SMU.

But, if the P12 gets Fresno St, and either UNLV, or SMU, and then gets a barely ok media deal, the P12 probably would survive, be ok.

But that's not gonna happen.

The P12 wont get Fresno St, UNLV, SMU, Tulane, Colorado St, BSU, Wyoming, Air force, and will get the SHETTIEST media deal ever, and will DISINTIGRATED, all because of Kliatkoff, Cal, Stanford, etc.

Time for WSU, Schultz, to beg, plead, cajole, etc the Big 12 to join the Big 12.

But that won't happen, as Schultz won't do that.

And WSU, Ore St, Cal will be the last ones left in the Pac 3. And WSU, Ore St will have to join the MWC.

EFFIN MORONIC P12 LEADERSHIP, that includes Schultz.

So much WSU loser mentality about this decision. It’s public knowledge that the pac won’t add anyone until a TV deal is done.

SDSU had to make a decision to pay $17m to be in no man’s land with no leverage or announce “allegiance” to the MWC by today, the conference which they’ve announced they’ll leave, regardless of the outcome and potentially pay $34m. Paying $17m to be without a conference would give the PAC all the power in negotiations since SDSU would have 0 leverage in that situation. They’ve basically said they’d rather negotiate with the powerless MWC rather than be in a powerless position themselves. To the MWC, they could accept $18m and both parties would still be better off.

Get a grip, guarantee SDSU will be in the pac by 2025.

Btw “loser” WSU fans - donate to the cause or die a long miserable death into the doldrums MWC/WAC football.

I actually blame San Diego state for jumping the gun also, the request was ridiculous

I think this is much ado about nothing. So, they delay accepting a P12 offer for a year (if they are ultimately offered membership).

Large mergers & acquisitions take time. Negotiations & Media rights agreements (especially in the new streaming space) at this level isn’t something that happens overnight. My goodness how can’t that be known.

How much time did it take USC and UCLA…sorta seemed like it happened overnight, maybe the wrong perspective on how it unfolded?

I get the “slow your roll let it play out” position. Here’s my concern…the stakeholders are the same ones who gave Larry Scott the stamp of approval after 7, 8 years in which it was obvious he was failing and the conference was getting left in the dust. I’d be fine letting it play out if there was any confidence at all the university presidents in the conference were capable of pulling the right strings. They clearly aren’t, so it’s easy to fast forward and think will be a bad no decision that has dire consequences. I hope I’m wrong and these smug pricks redeem themselves.

Smug pricks is about right. They are all getting paid something way north of half a million, to do what? Sit on their hands and watch the PAC disintegrate. I re-read the ESPN article (linked above) and I just can't believe how F-ing stupid we are. As said previously, John David Wicker, SDSU's AD, worked for the Cougs for many years. Really nice guy. So they put themselves out there like the prettiest girl in school looking for a date, and we just totally F it up. Absolutely no excuse for that. I mean WTF? The more I stew on it the more pissed off I get.

I agree with WASH ST A&M FAN. Acquistitions take time. We don't know what we don't know.

I'm positive it's the attorneys and the legal council from both sides, including the complexity of the issue, the TV rights, the contracts, the streaming rights and potential new streaming partners....this is a very complex situation, and the attorney's don't help to make it any quicker or cheaper.

I mean, look at how many attorneys could be involved? One from each governing school, (that's 10 or 12), and their oppointed committees, (which agree to disagree) then you have the Pac-12 Conference legal council, then you have each territorial state, (WA, OR, CA, UT, CO), and their legal council chiming in, then you have ESPN, FOX, APPLE, CBS, ABC, (with their financial stress, minus Apple) ,....and their attorneys.

Now you have the most complex thing like planning for the Olympics.

We just simply...don't know what we don't know.

Oh boy - how to F-up a good deal, get the goddam lawyers involved. F-ing blood sucking leaches. Like the Eagles said in their song "get over it", kill all the lawyers, kill them tonight. No, we have had a goddam year to recover from the defecting traitors. and we F it up. There are just no excuses.

OK, Loyal thanks for the clarification (although maybe you were a little hard on D-Gib? 😮)

Who am I thinking of here that's a lawyer and has offered insight on such matters over the year?
