Oregon 4th best ranked (thus far in Pac), far lower than they should be

IMO, with the facilities they have, with how they have been consistently good, it should be disappointing that USC, UCLA and UW are ahead of them, with ASU and WSU not far behind.

Couple that with they are looking to get Eastern's QB, who is good, but you have to wonder when Uncle Phil is going to want to see a better ROI for his funding.

From my perspective, they have not be great on the lines, which is why they get pushed around in big games, against teams that have better size (Auburn, Ohio St.).

Helferich isn't chip kelly, and the facility advantage has been mitigated to a degree by everyone else putting up new buildings.
Phil won't tolerate many losses hence recruiting Eastern's QB, Lockie, the heir apparent to Marriota probably isn't up to the task. Marriota covered up many of Oregons weaknesses and with him gone they are scrambling for a replacement

Not sure that is a great deal different than Kelly

getting Masoli from the JC ranks. Of course Helfridge hd problem getting a quality qb. The next guy should have been recruited two years ago. But a recruit sees a freshman starter and they tend to shy away. But to be honest, they seem to get good QB play regardless of who they throw out there.

You misspelled "Hellfreezer".

Oregon's been on a great run the last several years, but at the end of the day, Eugene will always be a harder sell than LA or even Seattle. Especially considering how many kids come from CA.

Plus, if I'm good enough to be recruited by Oregon, I'm probably also being recruited by schools which have shown they can actually win the big game.

If I'm an Oregon fan right now, I'm like f--- the spread nonsense. Gut it, and use your iron fist to create Alabama West pro style. Barring freak injuries or incidents, they will never win a championship with their smoke and mirrors crap. If I'm a super-competitive recruit, I'm looking to schools that have shown they can actually win titles.

I think it is much easier to sell the uniqueness of your situation (whether UO or WSU), put up some new buildings, and get a good coach/staff in order to move from lower middle to very high middle than it is to move from very high middle to top rung.

Especially when trying to get into the top rungs, you need to have all the pieces in place, or at least clearly moving into place. That means facilities, coaching staff with both coaching and recruiting ability, an AD who is talented, and a Univ President who gets it and is involved from his level. Oregon had that during their "build up" years. Then they went with an AD who would go along to get along, and that AD has had to make changes from a coaching staff standpoint. The same pieces are no longer in place, and it is not clear to me at this point that the combined group is as effective as it used to be. Not bad, and probably able to maintain an upper middle position…but not capable of top rung performance. And the EWU QB situation is just a symptom. The root cause is that, even with great facilities and showers of money, the group of necessary people are simply not as good as they used to be.
