of which I never took the class.

So if sure seems like WSU has a lot of "quality" recruits that are still considering our program. But WSU's awful close to filling the classroom up. Hows that work? I realize greyshirting them is a possibility but would WSU pull a kids verbal to bring in a higher rated kid? I know it happens… would WSU do it, you think? Or would we just ask every kid thats being replaced by a higher rated kid to greyshirt and if he backs out, he backs out… Thoughts?

Leach has pulled offers before- there was that DB or WR from Texas.

Myron Turner, safety from Desoto HS in Texas. His offer was pulled when WSU landed Montrel Meander. Desoto's coach didn't take kindly to it and said Leach was never welcome at his school again. Of course, that coach is no longer at Desoto, so.

Turner ended up at Utah St, but I don't believe ever played and has since left that program. I don't recall the reason. Meander decommitted from WSU and went to Texas. He was arrested last year in relation to a truly horrific sounding sexual assault case and is no longer at UT.

One thing to keep in mind, it goes both ways. Kids can dump WSU at any moment too. Every party involved has to keep all their options open until pen hits paper. Im sure kids are keeping some coaches in the loop in the event that the school pulls their offer and some schools are keeping kids in the loop in the event a kid pulls his verbal...

Didn't know or remember all that. Thank Fab.

The way I see it, if there's a kid who's an early soft verbal but is taking other visits and "keeping his options open", there's no reason not to pull his offer for an equal/better player who is ready to sign.

At the same time, it's up to the coaches to decide which player is a better fit. I'd rather see them sign a 3-star kid from North Dakota who works hard and plays his part than a 5-star kid from Florida who is more talented but doesn't want to practice, sits out if he stubs a toe, and only runs hard when he's getting the ball.

Sounds harsh, but it's all business.

The best analogy is the musical chairs game. Simplistic as that sounds, it applies pretty well in this case.

Unless you are USC, there are going to be a couple of kids in your class that are "bubble" kids in some way; the way the rules work today, usually they will be athletically a bubble kid, rather than academically. The kid might be a bit shorter or lighter or slower than you would usually want, but excels in other areas, and the HC will decide that the kid is worth taking a chance on...as long as a sure thing doesn't walk in the door. Of course, there is no such thing as a "sure thing", but there are certainly kids with better odds of success than other kids. And at the end of the day, there is no substitute for talent evaluation skills.

Put that all in a pot and stir. See who decides they are interested in you. See who USC pulls an offer from at the last minute. Rule of thumb is that you will get one, maybe two surprises at the last minute. The rest of the class is probably set by mid-January...at least the kids who will actually qualify and show up on campus.

Mike Leach just fired one of his best friends to help win more games..

do you think he would play nice and take the less talented kid if something better came along? He would not honor the verbal with the one kid to get the better kid...but he would also have to be absolutely sure the better kid signs the dotted line.
