I don't know, I am going to miss the defense giving up a big pass play and then have two DB's argue over who was supposed to cover.
Like the no BS attitude. The happy, happy demeaner gets old fast.
Dickert and Arbuckle. They were more worried about what's next instead of what was in front of them.
Started out a bit rough for me when he said he would "love his players unconventionally" when I'm pretty sure that he meant "unconditionally". That said, he's clearly a young guy who hasn't reached his ceiling yet. Agree that it felt that he took a couple shots at Dickert. In particular, it felt like he was saying that Dickert and his staff lost focus at the end of the season and they were looking ahead after an 8-1 start.
I did find it interesting that he kept saying that Pullman was like the Midwest. He's not wrong in some respects but that's the first time that I've seen a coach say that about the Palouse.

I've never put a lot into press conferences, but I thought he came across as genuine and grateful for the opportunity. I wasn't aware that he was at SDSU for 19 years. That's remarkable in this day and age. He choked up talking about coach Stig and his time at SDSU. I like that. It's common to hear coaches BS about how they want to be here for a long time, but I get that vibe from him. He's a small-town guy at his core. I thought his comments about "him and the staff not getting distracted about what else was better" was a nice (and accurate) shot at Dickert.
I don't know why, but I have a good feeling about this guy. I like that we're changing up the offense. I've been watching us throw the ball every down forever. What the Hell? Let's see how ground and pound works. Liked hearing him say that "we will hit." Liked hearing him say that he believes in creating the scheme around the players. Like that he's a 4-3 guy with some 4-2-5 mixed in. Not sure we can recruit at the necessary level, but I like the 4-3. Like that he absolutely prioritizes OL and DL. Again, proof will be in the recruiting, but I like it. Dude does not lack confidence. I didn't see any awe shucks about him.

He strikes me as someone who would rather be in a film room than do those weekly shows. I can't remember what Leach said during those stupid things. They get a small amount to do the programs.....I'd just tell them to keep $10,000 or so. Sorry I'm working on my profession.

They should bring that back. Zero reason to get rid of it. One of the best injury prevention tools and it worked very well.
I believe he meant unconventionally.... as has been said; he is a tough dude. Love in today's world is all hugs and flattery. His way of showing love will not be hugs and flattery. He will show love different than the current culture (unconventionally). But he will show love and his players will play hard for him, because they will know he loves them.
If he was a political candidate a bunch of guys here would be yapping about dementia.
Who gives a shit if he misspoke on a couple of things, he was in front of a podium for a half hour, that’s gonna happen with most human beings.
My take, he’s going to have a tough football team, they are going to focus on the process, and he’s not going to be in a hurry to get out of town when he has success. Good enough for me.

Who spoke for all of 4 minutes pre-questions and made sure to reference and thank every former HC all the way back to Walden.

I'm not arguing he misspoke. I'm offering an explanation for the use of "unconventional" as a modifier to love.
Nobody is worshipping.
Most are waiting to see him coach at least one game before passing ultimate judgment.
I will say that I mentioned the "unconventional" just because it surprised me.....but I'll by saying that I don't think it merits any analysis or in-depth discussion. It was just kind of a jarring start for me. All of us know that it doesn't matter what he says up there anyway....it's what happens on the field. If he can win 9+ games a season he can be as unconventional in his love as he wants to be....as long as he stays within the bounds of the law (I'm looking at you, Gesser). LOL
