I get we are vaccinated. 18 months ago that would have been good enough. Again, you nor I know what the virus will mutate to. Sort of likes like a fire I witnessed back in Chelan circa August of 2015. When I went to the gym at 11, it looked like the fire was all under control. But they didn't have every last amber out. and when I got out of the downtown gym at 1, the winds were blowing, the fire jumped the road and all hell broke lose. So there has to be a multiple front attack on this virus. But ED, we're vaccinated. We can wear masks as an extra buffer if we want to. If the vaccine truly works, and I believe that it does, we vaccinated people have nothing to worry about. You can go to restaurants without any worry about becoming gravely ill. It doesn't matter what other people do. If that's not the case, then the vaccine isn't working.
And what do you mean you find "my analysis" to be full of $hit. It's my opinion. That's all it is. I'm OK with health mandates, but I want them to have more teeth. I want smoking and vaping to be outlawed. I want morbidly obese people to be mandated to lose weight. I want school lunch programs to be completely overhauled with healthy foods. I want exercise and nutrition classes to be a point of emphasis in K-12. I want homelessness to be outlawed and immigration to follow strict port of entry protocols. Anyone entering the country must be vaccinated.
I drive an electric car, I work out 6x/week, and I eat only single ingredient foods, I'm vaccinated, I donate to charitable causes, I'm a present and involved single Dad. I want everyone to make the same efforts to minimize their carbon footprints as I do, OR I want some serious tax kickbacks for being at the front of the line.
ED, you're like so many people today. You talk about people who are helping others...about the true humanitarians, but in the same sentence you joke about how it's good news that people in the South, and those who hold opposing viewpoints, are dying. Those are the types of comments that have shaped mine. See, for me, I'm a centrist. I believe in doing the right thing because it's the right thing, but I don't want to mandate vaccines, or abortions, or guns, or equality of outcome, and I certainly don't wish harm, death, or dying on those people who don't share my opinions.
Same thing with Covid 19. If it stays static, yeah I would say vax and we are ok. Let's pretend I don't care about the health consequences. There is a financial component that will keep us running on 6 cylinders, and you know who suffers the most? Small businesses.
Am I a humanitarian? Let me put it this way. I have become cynical. I would put it akin to the people on the streets of Seattle who have a heroin problem. I could talk my ear off, do as my as I can for them and at the end of the day my efforts will be for not.
The guy I pay unreal money to cut my hair(friend of my wife's family) , I drive now 30 minutes to get my hair cut as he moved locations. Guess what, he isn't vaxed. He was the person most hard hit when the pandemic came down in 2020. He has zero problem with cutting by hair with a Marlboro smell, but won't get vaxed. I told my wife if he doesn't care enough for his business(read that again) , why should I pay him at least double what I can get my hair cut for, and travel 30 minutes? I ate out (take out) almost 8 months straight to give our local economy income while they were shut down or unable to have people inside.
So I do joke about thinning the herd, cause I am done with every irrational reason I am given not to take the vaccine, and then in the same sentence take Ivermectin. I get Chip's concern for example about his kids, I really do. But no one is coming after them where he would have to defend the family. Nor is anyone as Bleed would say "holding people down to stick them in their arms.
Chip mentioned a heart condition the vaccine will promote a response and send kids to the hospital. A very rational question and concern, but if you read ALL of that article it says yes the vaccine will cause hospitalizations, but covid is 10 times more likely to cause a serious event. It is written in the same article.
So while I do care people are dying, but I do struggle with people who got every other vaccine but this is the one they won't take, while I don't wish death on anyone, I am losing capacity to mourn those deaths.
