43 turnovers in 22 games. Smith isn't going to offer somebody that much. He shot 27% in 13 games in JC. He can't shoot. I'm sorry that facts hurt your feelings, El.

For whatever reason other top schools habe bsvked off him also. Maybe injuries, maybe horrible shooting year

For those of you that weren't impressed by Murphy's other choices, well lets see now, hes only been contacted by Gonzaga, TCU, Unlv, Pittsburgh, Nevada, Cal. I would say that isn't to shabby. Ryan Murphy was the best recruit coming in. Dont know what happened but the staff should have done a better job to keep Murphy a Coug! imma do some digging cause now im very interested to know why Murphy decommitted after being all in!

69 Elc Coug4life...why does it matter the reason? Maybe he didn’t fit the system, maybe he didn’t like Smith. Have you ever been dumped ? We aren’t in the why did they dump me mode anymore, we are in the who can we date mode right now.

Some of the best coaching hires and player recruitment has happened when we least expect it . Garrett got lucky Dennis turned him down, along with several other people before he hired Pete Carroll. I am not sure Justin Wilcox was Cals top two choices but seems to be a good hire .

WSu may get two or three players who aren’t long range answers and they transfer after next year. The real rebuilding starts next fall and through that recruitment of this years juniors .

The top schools are after him, TCU,Gonzaga and others. I wonder why? I guess the cougs did not want him anyway. Quit the BS and face reality. He probably looked at zero post season play under Smith and players wanting to go elsewhere and decided he wants to play in post season play. That fact alone will effect top players. His coaching staff is starting to mirror all of his coaching staffs.

well I guess we will see where Murphy ends up. All I know is when he was with us everyone was praising how he could shoot and what an addition he was. Now that he has changed his mind, he cant play, he doesn't have better offers etc. Brent H, your going to take 13 games in juco at 27% over a year at UNCC where he shot 40%? Guess in your eyes west texas juco ball is better than Conference USA basketball?

Here is the reality....and you may be right in every word you speak, but HE isn't right for WSU. WSU needs a player that will do anything to get out to the other side. They need the people willing to work late to fix the foundation. They don't need the finish carpenter. They need the person who will mix a back of concrete to patch a hole in the foundation.

He also missed 50% of his teams games the last two years due to injuries, 60% of them last year at the JC. Is he healthy? Are there concerns over his health moving forward?

He averaged 6 points and missed the majority of the season at Charlotte. Also, when he has played he has as many turnovers as he does assists. I never sang his praises because no JC player ever made it under Kent. My last response to you, El.

I dont disagree with any of that. But just like he may not be right for WSU, it also works both ways. WSU may not be right for him. Based off what I have heard the main reason he asked out of his scholarship was because in the first 2 weeks Kyle never reached out to Murphy or his parents. While hoping that's not true, but if so that's not good business on the new staff part. But there will be a learning curve regardless. Good thing with all these open spots is he has time to build with HS/Prep players. But I would bet before his time is up in Pullman he will turn to the JC route.

Brent H you dont need to respond to me, but im sure you will be looking to see where Murphy ends up and I bet you will follow him. Dont worry I will be sure and remind where he lands and his production when he gets there. lol

Actually it only works one way. We as Cougs don't worry or care if WSU isn't for him. It really only matters if he doesn't work for WSU, even if it because of his age.

well cougEd it does work both ways which is why Murphy is heading elsewhere. Spin this how you want, I bet the new staff wouldn't turn him down if he wanted to come back. Make no mistake it was Murphy that decided to leave. Not Kyle telling him to go.

Hold on a minute! In one post you say Murphy left because “Smith never reached out to either him or his parents in the first two weeks”, then you say “make no mistake it was Murphy who decided to leave”. Those two statements contradict each other completely.

It’s kind of funny a question is asked of el and 69coug answers.... did somebody create an imaginary friend?

whats hard to understand about Murphy asking for his release because the new head coach didn't reach out to him? Guess im not understanding what you dont understand and how do they contradict one another???

Nothing hard to understand about that . He dumped us cause we didn’t call. Now what ? Sounds like we better find another date .

No, this is no imaginary friend of El, we have our own opinions. Like who if any of the assistants should have been kept. I wasn't a big fan of Haskins as El was. But at end of day I agree with not keeping anyone.

look all im saying is if that's true, then this isn't wcc recruiting or ivy league. Players at this level want attention and want to know they are wanted. If all the new staff had to do was reach out or make a trip to see the early signees then that seems like a small task to keep together what possibly could have been one of the better classes in EK tenure. Then new staff could have molded them as they wanted to. We aren't getting Murphy, not getting Henson or Nigel.

I was very high on Murphy and would still like to see him go crimson but if Smith didn’t even reach out to the kid at all, it doesn’t take s genius to figure out Smith wasn’t that interested. As far as the other 2 not sure how you know WSU won’t still get them but imo no big loss either way.

I dont know but that would be my guess on Johns and Henson. Havent heard of new staff heading out to visit with Johns in Texas or to visit Henson in Utah. In anycase we will see. bottom line is wsu needs players. I wouldn't be shocked to see 1 or 2 more leave heading into the summer.

You nailed it . Murphy wanted to know he was wanted . Smith didn’t give him that feeling . Maybe smith may have wanted him or maybe he didn’t .

But from what I know about rebuilds they want players willing to sacrifice to do anything to get the job done .

Thomas Kelati maybe be the best of the “nonrewarded” players who have ever donned a cougar jersey. Did everything a coaching staff asked but didn’t get the fruits of his labor in terms of wins

John looks headed elsewhere. Sometimes it’s best to simply clear the deck.

"I have offers from Oregon State, LA Tech, Oral Robert, North Dakota, Rio Grande, Tulsa & Chicago State," Johns said. "I have had interest from Texas A&M, Baylor, UCF & Auburn."

Yes, you are right. There was a time we all wanted him. He fit what Kent wanted to do and he was better than many of the players that Kent had brought in during his time in Pullman.

That changed when Kent was replaced by Smith. None of us know if it were Murphy or Smith that was behind the change. Time will tell if Murphy turns out to be one that got away or was just replaced by a player that was a better fit for Smith's system.

If Murphy wasn’t contacted in Smith’s two weeks on the job, it’s pretty clear to me Coach Smith didn’t want him. It’s a two minute process to send a text or a quick phone call.

Way easier to put on radio silence/too busy and let the player explore other options than have the ‘you’re a good kid but you don’t fit our system so the offer is revoked’ conversation.

Would way rather have Noah Williams for three or four years than Murphy. Way more upside.

Murphy and Williams are 2 different players and I would want each one for various reasons. Why not take both, not like you dont have a handful of scholarships. Maybe your correct? Maybe Coach Smith didn't want Ryan so he didn't reach out. But I would think if thats the case why wouldn't you reach out to let the young man know your going a different direction? Or maybe its a case of having to learn that recruiting at a BCS level is a lot different then at levels he has been at. Just like the team, Coach Smith will have a learning curve as well.

Has it been factually established that Smith did not contact Murphy at all? Or is it "I heard from somebody who heard from someone...."? If Smith blew him off, that's not good....but it doesn't seem to be his style or personna.

Glad Cougar

Let’s ask him

well cougEd it does work both ways which is why Murphy is heading elsewhere. Spin this how you want, I bet the new staff wouldn't turn him down if he wanted to come back. Make no mistake it was Murphy that decided to leave. Not Kyle telling him to go.

Again you miss the point. He isn't for WSU. Period. He didn't want to come here. WSU CAN"T have players who aren't 100% committed to do whatever it is to become successful. I have no problem with you saying the reason he isn't here is because Smith didn't show him enough love and it was Murphy's choice. He didn't do what he had to do to make WSU successful, included in that is fighting for that spot.

He certainly doesn't have offers from anyone very impressive at this point.

Yeah when you ask for your release it no doubt was given.

Murphy",we did not want him anyway" just received an in home visit and offer from Pittsburg. Murphy wants to play in post season play. The chances of doing that within the next two years of Smith.s tenure are practically zero.

Pittsburgh is a team in complete disarray. Almost as bad as the Ernie Kent WSU Cougars. Little wonder why this team is after Ryan Murphy.
