Sac State to the Pac....

As the Mighty Loyal One endorsed but did not predict. And rumors are that Texas State is turning us down.

The article pretty much states the exact opposite of this.

Why even post it?

Why do you read and reply to my posts and threads? And funny, I wonder the same thing about every single post you make.

That said, my post was a little tongue in cheek, but I dunno. Sac State "saying" they are going independent because the in progress discussion with the Pac isn't done yet?

And perhaps we can chat about expansion in general. It's now April, folks. No media deal, no 8th member. Now the prospective members, if any, hold all the cards. Good job Teresa.

Oh I don't know, I foolishly trust that maybe just once you aren't trolling the entire board and actually post something factual? And you're right, that's 100% on me for being that foolish.

And if you read correctly, they are going independent because they don't have an invite and need a waiver. Why the f would they jump ship for a handshake promise of league membership when people's words' aren't worth anything?

Expansion in general? The Pac is f'd. WSU is f'd. There isn't a single team that would join the pac that is worth having. End of story.

April 1st is over. Can you please edit your title? Remove this, please. This is such a turn off to Recruits, parents and relatives.
LOL, not like this lame new conference won't turn off recruits, parents, and relatives...

It doesn't matter who the P12 picks up from whatever is left, the new conference will be laughable.

FWIW, I didn't see anything in the article that suggests that the Pac-12 is interested in Sacramento State.

If there's good news, although the new Pac-12 is unlikely to be considered a "Power 5" conference, the sad reality for the Big 12 and the ACC is that they are dropping down to our level. There's always hope that once they get over the "hanging on for dear life" phase, they'll realize that embracing the Pac-12 as a peer may give them more overall leverage in future discussions.

I'd say it as it stands it's, going to look like this, with the gap between. And being number 2 on this list isn't a compliment either.

The gap between 1 and 2 will be huge and it will be even larger between 2 and 3.

1. $EC/BIG
...
...
2. BXII/ACC
...

3. New P12

What was interesting for me is talking to my KSU co-worker earlier this week about the upcoming football schedule. They have the following home games this year:

North Dakota
Army
UCF
TCU
Texas Tech
Colorado

He was looking at that schedule and thinking that there isn't a single game that really excites him. If Prime hasn't figured out his OL, they are likely to be a terrible team this year with the loss of his kid and Travis Hunter. The rest of the schedule is kind of trash. The upside is that they will probably be favored to run the table this year.

Still, with the loss of OU and Texas, the Big 12 is now a bad version of the old Pac-12 where nobody is really bad...but nobody is really good either.

Can understand their lack of excitement.

The new BXII (and old P12) of nobody is really bad and nobody is really good does make it a fun coin flip from a viewing perspective though.

I don't think Texas State really moves the needle. Travel, brand, etc. I like North Texas a little better.

I can believe that Sac St would apply for FBS status. Economically dumb, but possible. But they are not going to be in the PAC. Now, the MWC I could believe.

Simple economics will keep the B12 and ACC from falling to the level of the "P12". There is a reason WSU/ OSU and the MWC are where they currently are.

Enrollment and game attendance is at a 20 year low; the glory days of WSU football are dead and behind us, never to return. The ONLY way WSU finds their way out of this hole is if, for unknown reasons, the NCAA suddenly grows a pair and kills the portal and NIL as we know it and figures out a way to evenly/ equitably distribute the cash. But that will never ever ever happen, so again, WSU football is dead.

Oh stop. WSU football is not dead. There are what 60-70 G5 programs at least surviving, if not thriving. Not to mention 120+ FCS programs, many of whom are doing just fine. Time for WSU to go whimpering to Gloria and the MW and beg for the merger. Reverse or not at this point. OSU are idiots. They can go it alone on the strength of their Baseball program.

Merger for what? $2MM a game tv rights to be a farm league for the P2?

How much money do you think the next tv deal is going to be when the ratings come out and show/ prove that no one gaf about WSU anymore? And no one ever cared about anyone in the MWC. What bowl tie-ins do you think the nutless P12 are going to be able to broker?

If you things are going to get better for WSU or anyone not in the P2 (but especially the MWC/Pac?), I've got some oceanfront property I'd like to sell you.

Ok buddy. Coupla things. First, go read Brand X who's sources predict a media deal of $7-12M. Probably closer to 7. You think my Alaska Air PacMtn Conference would do any worse?

Next, "no one ever cared about anyone in the MW"? Gee, in my distant memory I recall BSU as a #4 seed in the FBS playoffs. Way back in .....2024?

Bowl tie-ins? Well the LV Bowl for starters. A chance at keeping the Holiday Bowl. Both MW hometown bowls. Alamo is gone.

And I never said things are going to get better. But if the dumb F Pac-2 and their stupid (and ugly) Commissioner would have embraced the reverse merger from the getgo, we would have had far and away the best G5 conference. Almost guaranteed playoff spot. Instead we are making things worse. When a Sun Belt team blows us off, we are f-ed.

Since you just want to be a nega-Coug and spread all your doom and gloom, why don't you just go away? You add nothing to any conversation on any thread. Have something to actually say, or go the F away.

You're not the boss of me, so there.

And gfy for trying to gatekeep who can or can't have an opinion on the Cougs. You want to join Mik in the crimson colored glasses camp, knock yourself out. No really, take a hammer and see what you can get up to. Here's a hint: place hammer in hand, move hand swiftly in direction of head.

The facts will sadly prove me right over the next five years as the non-P2 teams all either get ground into obscurity or they finally grow a sack and break off to do their own thing and let tOSU and Bama jerk each other off every season.

What you said about how if the PAC 12 had reversed merged with the SHITTY BOTTOMDWELLERS OF THE MWC, that would have been the best G5 conference is FALSE.

And it's false because of SHITTY bottomdwellers Hawai, Nevada, New Mexico, etc.

If the AAC champ goes 10-2, 11-1, 12-0, they would goto CFP over 11-1 reversemerger champ, because of Hawai, Nevada, New Mexico, etc.

If Sunbelt Champ goes 11-1, 12-0, they would goto CFP over a 11-1 reverse merger champ, because of Hawai, Nevada, New Mexico, etc.

The Pac would be better served creating the conference with their ideals in mind. The big tv $ is done. There are no markets left that move the needle significantly higher.

The focus, imo, should be travel and games. Remove any scheduling headaches. Remove all distant travel. Wanna be an academic snob? Fine. Offer ALL of the Tier 1 research schools in the Western US, even get crazy and include UTEP and any FCS teams. Which I believe includes NDSU, even tho not Western US.

Build a league with rules….
Roster limit of 75 kids. No more.
No redshirts. You get 4 years and done.
No collectives. Want NIL $? Great, hire an agent.
No in conference transfers.
No bounce back transfers. Meaning, left for P4, didnt work out, now wants to come back. Nope.

If you cant get tv markets to drive your tv $$$, focus on finding a way to create competitive games that get tv eyeballs from the entire Western US. Try and carve out a path that way. Or keep doing what they’re doing.

The last thing we want to do is make it a league that no player wants to be part of.

Look at the options for tier 1 researcg schools in the Western US that arent already in a P4 conference.

They could join a league of tier 1 research, regardless of FCS or G5…. or they could stick with whatever they have now.

Since athletics will no longer be able to carry the torch for the university, going all in on all the best T1 institutions on the West Coast at least allows for the university to hopefully build its reputation back up.

WSU now is JAG.

Agree. And if the day came that former Pac schools were looking for a home, at least you had a conference of tier 1 schools for them.

I'm sure that there are schools that might be interested. I'm not so sure that you're going to see a bunch of players seeing rules that limit their options as something that excites them.

I mean in a way...didn't the athletes ask for this in the new world of college athletics? They wanted options, but the options also may not present themselves.

The top tier athletes that see athletics as a job wanted this. The ones who actually want to play because they want to play didnt.

Nobody?
No money.

We will see how long schools are willing to write checks off their tv $$$.
