ICE, Greenland, etc. - this is getting so bad

The biggest problem is the waffling and inconsistency. He says there will be tariffs, then delays. He says what they’ll be, then changes the rate. Even today he’s started waffling on the most recent announcements, suggesting there might be some flexibility.

The markets hate uncertainty, and that’s what he’s providing.

There could be a logic to it though…the hints at flexibility and pauses could create short-term bumps and some opportunities for profit.

I’m watching and trying to find the opportunity to profit, but I don’t have a lot of liquidity in my accounts for new trades. I’d have to sell to buy. But, the things I can get the most cash out of are almost certain to recover with increased stability, so I’d rather hold them. There are some underperformers I could dump…but it would be at a big loss right now, and wouldn’t net as much useable cash.

First world problems.

This was supposed to be an ICE/Greenland thread. There is a Tariff thread.

That said, I would like all you Trump lovers to justify this latest shit. We erroneously deport this guy and send him to the horrible El Salvador prison. Hopefully we can bring him home alive, although I read elsewhere that the Nazis - oops - Administration is not responding. Air Force One to Mar-A-Lago? No problem. An Air Force jet to El Salvador to rescue this victim? Eh, we will get to it....

Anyway, so the DoJ has already admitted that this deportation was in error. A 15-year DoJ veteran simply confirmed that in court and immediately was suspended because he did not, in the words of our Attorney General:

“zealously advocate on behalf of the United States,” Attorney General Pam Bondi wrote in a statement “Any attorney who fails to abide by this direction will face consequences,” Bondi said.

Geezus F-ing Christ. And I thought I lived in America. Oops - Amerika.

That’s some dark deeply disturbing shit right there. I’m not ready to seriously call anyone a Nazi or fascist but that’s how I imagine they talk and act.

We are in some very dark times. Trump's policies are directly impacting construction prices and I may end up needing to lay off staff if this bullsh!t impacts housing the way that they are talking.

The United States has a chance to do something that should have been done DECADES AGO. Don’t be Weak! Don’t be Stupid! Don’t be a PANICAN (A new party based on Weak and Stupid people!). Be Strong, Courageous, and Patient, and GREATNESS will be the result!

So this is a good thing?! Throwing the global economy into deep recession to drop some prices? As I said earlier you don’t freeze your house to keep the ice cream cold. Bold strategy cotton let’s see how it plays out.
More like setting yourself on fire in order to toast some marshmallows.

I know, right?

Have you seen what’s happening to mortgage rates?

Lumber prices?

Actually, yes. Mortgage rates are at 6.64%, essentially unchanged from the 4 week average of 6.65. Down slightly from the 52 week average of 6.74. The low in the past year was 6.08%, in late September. Not that the president really has anything to do with interest rates.

As for lumber prices, it's always fun to see how people truncate and cherry pick data and charts to make things look like they want them to. Lumber futures were at 530 in late October, and started climbing right before the election, hitting about 620 a week after. January/February are typically a slower demand period, when inventory rises and prices fall, but that didn't happen this year - from Christmas through March 1, prices rose pretty consistently to a 2.5 year high on March 24. After that, the price started slipping, but not for good reasons - demand is falling due to construction slowdowns and trade uncertainty. The big drop in price happened from April 2 to April 3 - corresponding with the tariff announcement - when projections of the cost impact could be made. Demand is continuing to slip, and non-tariff inventory is expected to rise, which is driving the price down...which isn't really a good thing in this case. That gets into the other problem with the chart - it's not for lumber prices, it's for lumber futures. Not the same thing. A drop in futures prices, especially a rapid one, indicates a softening of demand and increase in supply. That's bad. Even worse, most projections show an expectation that the futures prices will rise significantly toward the end of summer, as the non-tariff inventory gets cleared out and tariff inventory starts filling the hole. Prices of that lumber will be higher due to the tariffs, so futures prices will rise even with soft demand. I haven't found where anyone charts the price of actual physical lumber, but it's not going to see a price drop like the futures did. Price of lumber will continue to rise. Sellers will start pushing prices up in anticipation of the tariffs, and as the non-tariff inventory is cleared out the price will rise faster. At some point, an equilibrium will be achieved again - with supply adjusted to meet the reduced demand, at a higher price to pay for the tariff. Meanwhile, that reduced demand means reduced construction, which means fewer construction jobs.

And then, there's the way these two things play together. Housing prices are still high, with interest rates above 6. It's been tough for first-time buyers to get into a place for a couple of years. Higher lumber prices and reduced construction mean further slowing of the housing market, as there will be fewer houses built (at higher prices) for the same number of buyers. So, count on more people renting and/or living in mom's basement.

Something you seem to be missing here. Its not a good thing or a bad thing.

It’s thee thing. We control nothing but our preparation and reaction to events.

Well, regardless, the market is well aware of tariffs and prices are falling for whatever reasons.

I’m not missing anything. I’m questioning your premise that Trump is some sort of genius that knows more about global economics than anyone who came before him.

I’m positioned fine either way and have a domestic business interest that will likely flourish with tariffs on foreign materials. That said it’s F’d up to see my fellow Americans get rammed in the ass by a trade war that is widely considered to be a no win situation by the most highly regarded economists.

Did y’all see Supreme Court put. An end to the charade?

Sent the lil inferior court judge packing.

https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2025/04/breaking-huge-win-supreme-court-vacates-judge-boasbergs/
This isn’t the resounding victory that you and your far-right sources think it is, and it wasn’t a slap to the district court judge at all.

What the decision actually says is that the Boasberg orders are vacated because they were filed in the wrong district. If they had been filed in Texas, where the detainees were held, they would be totally valid.

The court also says that, while the Aloen Enemies Act can be used to deport people (which has not been in dispute), the people it’s used against are entitled to habeus review - they can’t just get rounded up and put on a plane. They must be provided due process - a notice, a period in which to challenge their deportation, and the opportunity for judicial review to determine whether AEA applies to them. This part is actually a defeat for the Trump process.

The court also roadmapped the response that’s likely to occur…and is actually already happening. People will get scooped up and immediately moved to a different district. Look for shell games using detainees as the pea - they’ll move them around to ensure that they get deported before any court with jurisdiction can act.

More fun for you Trumpers. "I rebuke you in the name of Jesus". Pretty strong words to Mike Johnson (the rep called him a liar as well) from a fellow House Republican.

Then there is this. Armed deputies dispatched to the home of ex-DOJ attorney threatening her against giving testimony? With her teenager home alone?

Then this - Trump now wants to deport US citizens to El Salvador? And he's not kidding.

Can't wait to read the defense of this shit by you Trumpers. My country doesn't exist anymore.

Your Country?

Can you explain where the authority is derived to form a “shadow government”?

You know the cool thing about MY country? Every four years people do this thing called voting and if they don’t like the direction of things, they can vote against the idiots in charge for the previous four years.

Enjoy the next 1400 days.

Better brush up on your Spanish.

Yes. Like your “very fine people” who wave confederate flags and then gladly accept various handouts from Uncle Sam.
Hold on Cowboy, that isn’t close to what is happening and you know it.

The Enemy Within has shown itself called for and formed a (their words) “Shadow Government”

I’m on Team USA.

What team are you pulling for, LOL!

P.S. I don’t know who tweeted this and I don’t really care. I was able to quickly ascertain the tweets validity (Thanks Elon!)

Focus on the content.

Interesting the way this report connects dots to report things in a way that not even Fox is doing. And yet, they completely ignore that the shift of the port operations from the Hong Kong company to BlackRock has been blocked by the Chinese government.

I don’t watch Fox News so, I wouldn’t know about that.

But, I do know this:

YEah, Panama pulled out of Silk Road in February...after an audit of the contract found that they were losing revenue on it. Hegseth had nothing to do with that, and Trump probably didn't either.

I completely believe that you don't even watch Fox. They're too far left for you, and more importantly, they use too many words.

Panama pulled out of China's Belt and Road Initiative *after* the meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The meeting took place on February 2, 2025, and Panama’s formal announcement of withdrawal came on February 6, 2025. That four-day gap suggests the decision crystallized post-discussion, likely influenced by U.S. concerns raised during Rubio’s visit. The 90-day notice to China started ticking from the 6th, locking in the timeline.

Oh and, I’m a centrist. I stopped watching Fox News after the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

Which indicates there are national security concerns, right?
