Really?I read where ther RB room is crowded and he didn’t like his chances.
IMHO that is exactly what happened. The head Jackrabbit brought 3 Jackrabbit RB's with him, so he had to clear out any Cougars that were in their way. It ain't gonna stop either. Wulff 2.0.Really?
He pretty much the incumbent starter, so unless the new guy coach (sorry, he's so inconsequential to Cougar football at this point I haven't bothered to remember his name) told him to piss off...
Probably an over reaction on my part, but with the MBB stuff going on as well I'm just completely over it all.
Coach should assign playing time by entitlement? Seniority?IMHO that is exactly what happened. The head Jackrabbit brought 3 Jackrabbit RB's with him, so he had to clear out any Cougars that were in their way. It ain't gonna stop either. Wulff 2.0.
Edit - Oh and Schlenbaker is a Washington (Bellingham) kid as well. Such BS. 4 years in the program and he gets benched for a bunch of FCS players then run off. CJR is officially a POS now IMHO.
Wulff 2.0.
CJR is officially a POS now IMHO.
Gawd you guys are starting to piss me off, which takes a lot.WSU is LOADED with AWESOME RB's.
Like has been said above, 1 of the Jackrabbits RB's had a offer from TENNESSEE.
Another, had some AWESOME stats as the back up to the JackRabbit RB that was a candidate for the Walter Payton Award.(Yes the Jack Rabbits had 3, THREE Walter Payton Award candidates, All Americans, NFL candidates(1 QB, 1 RB, 1 WR), with the JackRabbit QB winning the Walter Payton.
Then Roger's got Pankey, a 3 to 3.5 star HS, freshman RB recruit, player, that is supposed to be pretty good.
Schlenbaker was DEAD LAST on the depth chart the last 2 years of Dickert's tenure, hand offs, touches wise. He didnt get very many touches. And when he got a touch in game against a average opponent, he averaged about 2.5 Yards per carry, hand-off.
The only reason Schlenbaker got any snaps, this last season, Dickert's final season, is because Schlen was a good blocker, bought Mateer more time to either pass or run.
If Schlen had stayed, he likely would have been at the bottom of the RB room, touches, hand offs, YPC, etc, wise, and not because of favoritism against him, but because whole room better then him, Schlen.
That's why Schlen hit the transfer portal, NOT because Rogers supposedly playing favoritism, supposedly running the supposedly better Schlen out.
Gawd you guys are starting to piss me off, which takes a lot.
So Mik, a Jackrabbit RB had an offer from Tennessee and chose the Cougs? I call complete BS. Prove me wrong.
Next (link below), exactly zero (not 3) Jackrabbit RB's were 2024 Payton Award candidates (link below). And Gronowski won the Payton in 2023, not 2024. He was among the top 35 in 2024, but not among the finalists. And he didn't come to WSU, so WTF is your point?
Schlenbaker? He averaged 3.5YPC, not 2.5, in 2024. (link below). Behind Wayshawn (gone) and Pulalasi (probably soon to be gone). He appeared in 11 games and scored 3 TD's, against FBS competition. And Schlenbaker was our burly short yardage back. 3.5YPC fits that bill just fine.
To the rest of your post, you have no F-ing idea why Schlenbaker is leaving. So how about you STFU until you can post something that has any basis in fact.
And to 95. What a stupid comment. Mateer and Wayshawn had 2/3 of WSU's carries in 2024. Not a lot left for Schlenkaker or Pulalasi. And 3 seasons as a dedicated Coug, and after 2 weeks of Spring practice he is run off? Ya think the Washington HS coaches won't take notice? Why the F would you even spew such complete BS?
95: Sucks that he’s a senior and leaving. Sucks that he’s a Washington kid and leaving. But we can’t just give spots to seniors from WA. They’ve got to earn their spots, and 345 yards in 3 seasons doesn’t make the cut.

OK Mik, I misread your 3 Jackrabbit comment (you did not say 3 RB's were finalists). I made a mistake, I was wrong this time, I feel ashamed. You need to work on your READING COMPREHENSION.
I DID NOT SAY that there was 3 Jack Rabbit RB's that were candidates for the Walter Payton Award.
I said that there was 3 GOOD, GREAT CANDIDATES, THAT WERE GREAT CANDIDATES(A Semi top candidate, semi top prospect, IS NOT A FINALIST)(Altho the QB was a finalists, won the Walter Payton Award(Whether it was 2023 or 2024(I did not say which year(Winning the Walter Payton in 2023 was still pretty bloody damn awesomely good) for the Walter Payton Award, and that it was 1, ONE QB, AND 1, ONE RB, AND 1, ONE WR.
That's NOT 3 RB'S.
AND each of the 3 were ALL AMERICANS, OR ALL AMERICAN CANDIDATES, AND NFL CANDIDATES.
I said that the BACK UP RB to the ALL AMERICAN CANDIDATE, NFL CANDIDATE, WALTER PAYTON CANDIDATE, had AWESOME STATS AS THE BACK UP RB.
Yeah the 2.5 YPC was off. I knew it was ABOUT ABOUT ABOUT ABOUT 2.5 to 3.5 YPC and said 2.5 YPC, because 2.5 YPC, is BLOODY DAMN CLOSE ENOUGH TO 3.5 YPC, because of what 95 said, that Schlen ONLY HAD ABOUT ABOUT 345 yards over a 4 year period, which is pretty HORRIBLY BAD.
You say Schlen was a short yardage 3rd down TD back. Schlen did get short yardage, but most of that short yardage came on 1st and 10, 2nd and 10, 2nd and 6, LONG YARDAGE DOWNS.
And Schlen ONLY had ABOUT ABOUT ABOUT 2,3,4 TD's period all season long, and only about 8 TD's over the course of 4 years.
Because of Schlen's 3.5 YPC short yardage, WSU ended up in 2nd, 3rd, 4th downs, etc.
What me, 95, others have been saying is true about Schlen. Schlen was BEHIND Leo Pulasi, Wayshawn, Dylan Paine, YPC, hand offs, carries, touches, etc, wise, last season. And the season before last season, was 3rd, 4th on the Depth Chart.
What got Schlen snaps was as a FB type lead blocker for Mateer, Pulasi, Wayshawn, Dylan Paine, and as a pass blocker to buy Mateer more time.
My point about the 1 QB, 1 WR, 1 RB ALL American candidates, that were NFL candidates, that were candidates for the Walter Payton Award is that normally a BACK UP RB should not get AWESOME stats behind such ILLUSTRIOUS STARTERS, meaning that BACK UP RB, that got those AWESOME STATS, that came to WSU is PROBABLY PRETTY OK, GOOD, DECENT, BETTER THEN SHITTY STATS SCHLENBAKER.
Note CAPS used to help Loyal with his reading comprehension.
Now you can stop behaving like a A hole, dumbass, and F off.

When he was in a position to start he was usurped by a true freshman. If these coaches are doing their jobs they’ve watched every minute of game film along with the spring evaluation. They’ve probably had some tough conversations with players letting them know where they stand. I don’t blame DS if it was looking like his role was going to be limited again, it seems like it was a mutual decision from the coach’s comments last week.FWIW, I'm disappointed to see him go. That said, if you go to the ESPN website and look up his game log, it doesn't look like we are losing a guy that was going to make a difference for WSU this year. He had a total of 4 carries for 8 yards in the last four games of the season (including the bowl game). In the Utah State game prior to those four, he gained 26 yards on 10 carries and 14 of the 26 yards was on one carry....meaning that he averaged 1.3 ypc on his other nine carries. He averaged 2.4 ypc in the last five games with a total of 34 yards.
Our offensive line might have been part of the problem, but those numbers suck. For perspective, in the last four games that Wayshawn Parker played, he averaged 6.4 ypc and gained 289 yards. Even taking out his 75 yard gain against Utah State, he averaged 4.9 ypc on the other 44 carries in his last four games. So, against common opponents behind the same offensive line, Parker averaged more than double what Schlenbaker could manage and almost triple when you include his big run against Utah State.
It sucks that the kid is leaving because he feels that he doesn't have an opportunity to start, but realistically, he's just not good enough.

kind of just made my point, didn’t you? Third year in the program and he couldn’t get carries ahead of a freshman and a first year starter. And to 95. What a stupid comment. Is this the year the rosters get capped at 105?
Yes, the new roster limits are in effect beginning with the 2025-26 school year.
Theoretically all 105 football players could be on scholarship, but apparently the SEC and Big Ten schools are gonna keep scholarship players capped at 85 and fill-out rosters with walk-ons like before.
