So we extended our basketball coach?

last season we were in the tournament, this season we are in the middle of the WCC. I'm giving coaches the vote of confidence, but this seems like it's going to bite us in the rear like doing the same thing for Ernie Kent.

Not so sure about a first year coach with a losing conference record....maybe a year, maybe two...but five?

Maybe I'm looking at this incorrectly, but in the current chaos that is NIL/Portal D1 sports, I think coaching stability is at a premium. If you have going to have to do mass rebuilding every year, it is easier if you are not also implementing an entirely new system. This particular decision does not give me heartburn.

I assume that these are one-year extensions. As I recall Anne was lauded for extending Kami a year ago.

As far as Riley - so his (and hers) contracts now have 6 years on them? I imagine that his initial contract was for the standard 5 years, so did he get two more tacked on? Absolutely no reason for that IMHO. I hope his buyout went up, but doubtful.

I'm not sure the reasoning behind extending Riley, but it's a bit too soon to compare Riley to Kent. I'm giving him the portal to see how the roster transforms and get a feel for how Riley might adjust next season.

Riley likely gets at least 3 years.

It easy could be an extension in name only . "Hey we think Riley is great we extended his contract " Looks like stability, then the last year has a guarantee of 200k or some number . Win win for them

If everyone had not called for an extension for him so hard, including dudes like Puck to McCoys face on his podcast, we probably would have let the year ride. She basically answered he deserved it and they had it in mind at the time of interview. The team then went on to shit the bed, and the options were extend as discussed or retract the vote of confidence. Seems she gave him the most basic extension, no money/1 more year. So basically a less enthusiastic extension.

Agree.

Leads me to believe Anne McCoy may be out the door when the new President arrives with her own AD. The extension as a parting gift.
