In my opinion, one of the reasons he doesn’t want to disclose his tax returns is because he is and will be taking net operating losses for the rest of his life. He doesn’t want to erode his “business” reputation.
I think the reality in this election is similar to what it is every time, but magnified: most voters are not truly voting for either candidate. They’re holding their noses and voting against the other one.
I know people who are planning to back Trump. None of them want to, they just feel it’s necessary to get Biden out. Through whatever political calculus they use, 4 more years of Trump is less bad than 4 more years of Biden. I also know people on the other side, who will be holding their noses just as tightly, but voting the other way.
The thing they have most in common is that neither really wants the candidate they’re voting for. They all desperately want another viable option. So do I.
I think there’s a very small percentage of people who actually think Biden has done a good job and deserves another term. There’s also a small percentage who think that of Trump. And, I think most of those people will reveal themselves - if not on sight - within about 30 seconds of conversation due simply to their lunacy.
I’d guess that 70+% of voters are not really swayed by either candidate, and are making judgements not of which is better, but which is less bad. If either party would recognize that and move meaningfully toward the middle, they’d win in a landslide. But Moving toward the middle means softening their stance and listening to the other side, which means being branded as RINOs or traitors, so they won’t, and they can’t- especially not in an election year.
And, so…most of us are left with two shitty candidates and a choice between what smells less. 10% at the extreme will be ecstatic, 10% at the other will claim fraud, and those are the people who will get all the press. The rest of us will be resigned to another 4 years of extreme partisan BS and moronic debates, and watching as this sort of politics continues to filter down to the local levels.
At some point, I’ve got to believe there’s going to be a massive correction. A voter revolt that will drag candidates back toward the middle. But for that to happen, some middle-leaning, rational candidates have to appear…which means that some of us within the 70% need to run. I read through the article, and Biden indeed made some incorrect statements. It was painful to again watch him speak. His attempt to rapid-fire all these facts and stats didn't help the accuracy one bit. However, the article just simply refutes some of his "lies" without evidence and gives flimsy 'proof" about others. The 1,000 trillionaire "lie"? In the "proof" video clip itself, Biden quickly corrected himself with "billionaires". So how is that a lie?
How “lie” is defined is the key, followed by a consistent application of that standard to both candidates. That’s difficult here because of Biden’s incoherence. Does Biden even know that he said no one in the military died during his tenure? Does he remember being at the dignified transfer of the 13 Marines that died at Abby gate?
Yeah, Biden just completely screwed the pooch for 90 minutes. He should have just called out Trumps litany of lies, like the ones about Mexico and other countries emptying their insane asylums and prisons.
