Per the Portland Oregonian newspaper:

OSU athletic director Scott Barnes said Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff “has not been involved in our (expansion) conversations.” Barnes said he doesn’t know about Kliavkoff’s future. “That will be a presidential decision is terms of what happens there, but he has not been involved in our conversations,” he said. “We are no longer waiting and sitting on our hands as it relates to thinking about our next move. The only waiting is for some finality as to what Stanford and California are doing.”

Seems like there is a real sense of urgency at this point and that Klaitkoff will be one of the fall guys for the missing TV deal

“We are no longer waiting and sitting on our hands” is a pretty strong statement of what he feels was happening. I just wonder who it’s really directed at. Kliavkoff, or one or more of the other schools who nixed the available deal(s).

I'm sure Kirk will argue for George. He'll leave with a nice severance package.

Supposedly, Klaitkoff has 3 years and $10M remaining on his contract that was negotiated/approved by the Pac-12 presidents.

So that might be a bite out of the conference's nest egg if GK is asked to retire?

Sometimes it’s best to walk away from a bad investment.

Also sounds like OSU is "light years" ahead of WSU's AD and Prez in doing much of anything to find a way forward to keep the PAC 4 and grow it ! At the minimum, both should be breathing fire on both Cal schools to forget the ACC ( who has forgotten them ) and help the PAC 4 get on !

LA Times released an article that detailed much of what Kliakov did in his short tenure as Pac12 commissioner. He was getting it done based on what was reported. One of the presidents *ahem*UCLA*ahem derailed the ESPN deal of $30mil per year per school. It also details how Deboer(sp?) sabotaged the Apple deal and basically convinced UO to bail shortly after which created the "sinking ship" effect. Fvck UDickless and those arrogant azzhats! So heated about this and how the university presidents only seek out to line their pockets........ No integrity, no loyalty and certainly no respect to the tradition of the conference and long standing rivalries that fuels the interest in college football on the West Coast.

It does look more and more the kliavkov was succeeding. He is now being scapegoated for the kneejerk reactions of a handful of people over the apple deal, which lokloks better as more info comes out. Also Phil Knight loved it, thats good enough for me

My guess, due to the buy-out amount, they will keep him around for a little bit, maybe to oversee the day to day stuff. His salary is a sunk cost, I think he's a decent guy that got put in a no win situation.

Strange that the narrative changed from Nike being the bad guys to uw leading the collapse of an 100+ year old conference based on the opinion of their first year head coach. Makes me furious. The more I think about Apple, the more I like it. Colorado really mucked things up as well.

Colorado, based on all the accounts, really set the chain of events off. The Big-12 facilitated this, no question.

The more I've read on this lately, the more it seems UO and UW weren't ever interested in staying in the Pac-12 — like it was almost scripted

They had their minds set on following USC and UCLA out the door to the Big Ten — and FOX was always going to come up with the minimum dollars necessary to get the deal done.

Once the Cougs and Beavs announce a destination, it won't be surprising if Stanford and Cal are off the Big Ten at an even more discounted rate

GREAT GOOD COMMISH'S, CEO'S DICTATE, TELL THE CORPORATE BOARD PAC 12 PRESIDENTS WHAT TO DO, AND THEN DOES IT, GETS IT DONE, EVEN IF HAVE TO LEVERAGE, FORCE THE ISSUE BY THREATENING SCORCHED EARTH CRUCIFYING THEM PUBLICALLY, RESIGNING, QUITTING, FORCING THEM TO FIRE, SUING THEM, ETC.

BAD COMMISH'S, CEO'S ARE YES MEN TO THE CORPORATE BOARDS WHO DONT KNOW SHET.

GEORGE WAS A YES MAN.

ITS ABSOLUTELY HIS FAULT AND THE PAC 12 PRESIDENTS FAULTS, AND THE PAC 12 AD's FAULT's.

ITS ABSOLUTELY ALL THEIR FAULT.

THEY ARE ALL SHETTY PAC 12 LEADERS.

UW wanted into the Big-10. That was clear. When CU bailed, they were able to play their hand into the Big-10 as a "life raft."

Yes, UW wanted the Pac-12 to fail for their own gain. If the Pac-12 collapsed, they had an invite into the Big-10. My sense is that standing invite, at 50%, was on the table the whole time. UW needed both the instability and to see a media deal that was "inferior" to the Pac-12's to get approval to pull the trigger.

UW was always going to go the me me me route. This is an institution that’s got a 100 year track record of arrogance and selfishness.

Saw this thread pop up on the bottom of the screen. FWIW, I don't have any anger towards the Big 12 for going after CU and the other four corner schools. The Pac-10 was the biggest villain in the early days of realignment when we tried to destroy the Big 12.

I despise UW, USC and UCLA for their duplicitous, traitorous actions though. I will say that the post below about George hasn't aged well. No offense to longtimecoug for thinking it at the time though.

I’ve got less ill will toward USC and UCLA than toward UW & UO. Sure, they surprised everyone with their announcement, but gave 2 years notice when we weren’t actively working on a new media deal. We were still in a position with options.
UW & UO sat at the negotiating table and made public statements about sticking together while they were on the other line with the Big 10. They literally waited until the new agreement was ready to be signed before they pulled the plug, knowing that it would take the deal off the table for everyone else. They pushed UU, ASU, and UA to the Big 12, which pushed Cal & Stanford to the ACC (a deal that still makes no sense, and has to be all about prestige, not money).

So, picking up the settlement talk from the other thread, here’s what I think:

UCLA & USC can have a half share. They gave 2 years notice, so pay them for 2022-23. Nothing for 23-24.

CU - while I don’t like the arrogance they’ve adopted from their head coach - was open about leaving, and felt like they got their best deal from the Big 12. I can respect that…but they still should pay a penalty for violating. Half share for 23-24.

UU, ASU, UA, Stanford, Cal - Basically all ran for the lifeboats and took what they could get. They all hung around until a 1/3 or 1/2 share somewhere else was worth more than what they’d get staying, and there was a real risk of not ending up with a chair at all. It’s hard to blame them. But they still violated. Half share for 23-24…I might even go 3/4.

UW & UO - the kings of duplicity & backhanded dealing. They’re directly responsible for blowing the Apple deal - which was the only one on the table - and drove us into the iceberg. It would have been signed 15 minutes after they made the decision. They get nothing.

And - the shares to each school are to be reduced by what is owed back to the network. WSU & OSU’s portion of the debt is divided by 10 and paid back by the defectors.

So we retain the equivalent of 7 shares from the 10 teams for 23-24 and divide it between WSU & OSU. Roughly $70M each.

I think any settlements need to come with Home and Homes with WSU. We should play at least 2 per year with the Traitor10.

It took WSU 24 years to get another P5 OOC game in Pullman as a member of the PAC. It’s not happening ever again without some arm twisting. Good for our media deal, good for recruiting and good for season ticket sales.

I thought about that too. But consider this…. all of these schools see WSU and OSU as the shit on the bottom of their shoe. There will be no day they allow WSU to hold them over a barrel and pound them the way they have done to WSU.

You cannot move your business forward if you do business with those that look for a way to fck you at every turn.

So…. sue the fcking balls off them. Win. No settlements. No phone calls. Do not offer mercy or a path out for those that were perfectly happy to bury you. No quarter given.

And move on with those that want to do fair business with you.

If that means some of these teams never step foot in Pullman again, fine.

I still can't believe we got Wisconsin to come to Pullman, then beat them. Wish I could have been there. And good on them for not dogging us on the return trip. I'm kind of a fan of theirs now. Wonder what their fans thought about little old Pullman.
