Story: Cougs-Wyoming FB Preview

"Wyoming plans to start 6-foot-7, 265-pound true freshman Zach Wallace at right tackle on Saturday"

Gotta think that Vaeao and Paulo are smiling at this. Very few true freshmen are actually ready to play on the OL in college...fewer still are ready to line up against senior veterans, especially when they give away 20 lbs to them.

I hate the grey unis.

Yes, I'm thinking the Cougs DEs are licking their chops right now. Could be a feast

Young in the secondary and on the OL... but they ran for 430(?!) in their loss to EMU.

I'd like to give up less than that.

1) It was EMU; 2) They ran 58 times. Hill had a great game. But I don't see him going for 200+ yds vs. WSU.

6'7" true freshman, former blocking TE, starting at LT in D-1 is impressive and a testament to the kids tenacity. If he somehow makes it thru this season in one piece, Wyoming might have a good lineman to build on.

Starting at RT, not LT.

At 6'7", 265, I'd be concerned that he's too light to be effective, and combining his height and weight it might be very easy for an opposing DL (especially a veteran) to get underneath and stand him up. He'll have to be very good on his feet - much better than most freshmen are.

I don't like the grey uniforms either. Can't stand 'em. Love are away unis, though.

The good news for us then... is that every play SHOULD be a WSU highlight reel play. If it isn't... will it be ok to express concern? (asking for a fren)

No. Maybe he truly is a freshman phenom. I think it's something less than likely that a true freshman at Wyoming is that good, but it's possible, I suppose.

Even if he's not, he won't get dominated on every down. 6'7", 265 is still a lot of meat to get in the way. And, he's on the QB's front side, so they're not serving him up, our DEs will still have to come to work.

Wyoming enters this game ranked 110 spots BELOW WSU according to Massey Ratings.

Wyoming is ranked 90 spots BELOW Portland State... Below Idaho...Below Cal Poly, Montana and Montana State.

Below William & Mary, Fordham and Kent.

Below West Texas State, Sacred Heart and Long Beach City College.

This is our third game this season.

Yes. We had better dominate. Against every true freshman they start. Every play, phenom or not.

WSU definitely needs to impress this weekend. There's no denying that.

As far as expecting complete and utter domination, though, Wyoming is getting its first-string QB back to play WSU. From what I've read, Wyoming was down to its third-string QB, who is horrendous, in that Eastern Michigan game. That's why Wyoming was completely one-dimensional and looked so terrible in the loss.

It's still reasonable to expect WSU to dominate nearly every phase of the game this weekend, but I'd look for Wyoming to be a bit more dynamic on offense than its first two losses suggest. I think the 24-point spread is pretty realistic.
