Texas State

If CJR wins big (which a lot of people think he will), there'll be SRO (even for an undeserving addition like TX ST)

Don't forget beer sales and the tent city Ann McCoy will offer overnighters
"A lot of people" think CJR will win big? That is funny.

And beer sales? Don't hold your breath. On the tent city - do you really want to go to Pullman, sleep in a tent, then go to the game? And how does that work in late October and November? And what about bathing?

Now one option might be to turn Beasley into a big indoor camping spot. There you WOULD have bathroom and even shower facilities. Even concessions. Hey, even beer sales! Might conflict with early season basketball though. But then there is Bohler and the other gyms. Silly maybe, but more inventive than "we have a lot of land".

I'd be shocked if the tent city thing happens. Too many practical hurdles and too much liability for an organization that isn't very good at practical details and is averse to any liability.

Brand Z (Diehard Cougs) subscribers think he's a big improvement over Wake Jake.

You make a lot of good points as usual.

But Ann McCoy and her team seem to think a temporary campground is gonna be a solid money maker — or why else would they go to all the trouble of putting it together, trucking in water, honey buckets, etcetera?

It's Anne, not Ann. I think you keep doing that just to annoy me.

So OK, where will this tent city be? And honey buckets? Oh boy. But that said, if they want to offer such a thing, how about the "'new" baseball facility? Do they have showers in that building now? They at least have real bathrooms handy. And it's walking distance to Martin Stadium.

CJR may in fact be a step up over Dickert. Can't really argue without seeing how his team plays that so let's agree on that.

But Fonzie is just flat out wrong thinking camping in Pullman in October/November is going to suddenly solve some kind of attendance problem. It's not. And, quite honestly, if you're trying to grow your major donor base, is the go cheap/camping crowd really the target market?

No adult wants to stumble around in the dark after a football trying to find their tent, let alone all the other hassles of camping.

The "e" is superfluous -- just like the "1" at the end of your screen name ;)

Unfortunatey, I'm bad at spelling and even worse with names

Gotta figure the AD has a plan that she's confident will be successful — or why else tease the fans and media with the "get your tents ready" mention at a press conference?

Maybe camping would create less of a liability issue than opening vacant dorm space (if there is any)?

Or they may have run the numbers and "Tent City" was more cost-effective and/or created less work for the athletic department staff.

That may be true...problem is that it creates more work for almost everyone outside of the AD staff.

She's talking as if it's a done deal and it's happening. It's not.

Tent cities are for the homeless.

Maybe Fonzie could put in for some state grant money.

They're not homeless...they're just differently residenced.

Or some BS like that.

If I wasn't at work, I'd go find the George Carlin clip about soft language.

New Poverty Engineering program @WSU?

- Camping ⛺️ spot location science
- Tent design
- Shopping Cart Maintenance
- Repurposing Conference windfalls (aka what to do with found money)

No, the maintenance class has to go to a trade school. At WSU it would have to be an engineering and design class.

There is a burgeoning homeless industrial complex so maybe training up the next generation of grifters would be a nice revenue source for WSU

Really struggling to understand why this would convince anyone of the desirability of Texas State:

"Imagine TXST is playing Washington State at 9:30 Local Time on a Saturday Night for PAC-12 After Dark. You and the boys decided to pick up pizza and have a party at there house. That‘s what you will get with TXST being in PAC-12 Football."

Some people have an fetish for watching games with no fans in the stands

@425cougfan

You probably know college football fans in the Lone Star State as well as anybody here.

Where would TX ST rank in the pecking order?

1. Texas
2. A&M
3. Tech
4/5. OU/LSU
6/7. Baylor/TCU
8/9. UH/ARK
10. SMU
11. UTSA/UNT/TX ST

Does that seem in the ballpark?

The idea that any of those fans at Nos. 1 thru 10 on that list would ever give a flip about some FBS newcomer seems absurd. Planting the Pac-12 flag in Texas seems like a hollow victory.

Totally agree with what @Observer11 posted previously on the best plan of action: Get UNLV and New Mexico and be done with it

What is the desirability of UNM? Regardless, the football landscape is going to look different in 5 years than it does today. So in the end, none of this may matter much.

That ranking is pretty solid subject to Tech being a bit lower and SMU a little higher. Rice is somewhere in there near the bottom as well. To its credit, Texas State is doing some decent things. It’s working toward R1. Its enrollment is increasing, nearly catching up to Tech. It has a decent end zone complex improvement project underway. The location between Austin and San Antonio is pretty good. It will make for a decent road trip and getting into Texas isn’t the worst thing.

But … yeah, nobody really gives a shit. It is a mediocre or worse school (albeit on its way up, not down, like WSU). No casual / unattached fans in Texas give a damn about Texas State playing Utah State (or WSU, really), especially with all the other schools in better conferences. It is a tiny fish in a huge pond.

Selfishly, I don’t hate it as much as some because I am in the area and this would let me watch the Cougs in person quite a bit, and because there is so much uncertainty / overall bearishness around things that worrying too much about Texas State vis-a-vis UNM or whatever, with schools like Tulane and Memphis not in the mix, isn’t something I am going to do.

I put Tech at No. 3 ahead of Baylor and TCU because (generally speaking) larger state schools have bigger followings than not as large private insitutions, e.g. WSU >>> Gonzaga in any circumstance other than the Zags making a Final Four run.

Didn’t list Rice because of their tiny and seemingly disinterested fan base, but they'd be the first (and maybe only) invite from Texas:

1. The academics are on the Stanford/Northwestern/Duke/Vanderbilt tier, prestigious enough to possibly even deodorize the stench of Boise and Fresno ;)

2. Rice's endowment is easily larger than the rest of the New Pac put together. It could be the one school to absorb a significant media share haircut (ala Stan/Cal with the ACC), but alas it seems the school's leadership would rather be aligned in a geographically far-flung league with Tulane, Navy, Army and likely Air Force soon enough.

Good call on SMU. They are at least up there with the Hogs

The only school in Texas worth adding is UTEP. Cause it’s the closest to the Western US which the Pac SHOULD BE!!! And the Sun Bowl has a history with the league

Good points Biggsy, although the value of the good ol' Sun Bowl in this day and age is about equal to that rotary phone taking up space in your auntie's broom closet.

I'd go with UNLV and UNM = 9 for football and 10 for hoops. If UNLV won't budge (and safely assuming Air Force and Rice aren't interested), then take UTEP.

Sac State seems like a serious reach at this point
