losing Book to Notre Dame and 0 and I mean 0 buthurt. I don't know what that means. What does that mean? What's the significance? I don't know!

I think most people see our QB situation and see that we are okay at QB and more than likely will get another. Book looked like a good prospect, but there are others out there and we aren't hurting at the position so it's not a big deal.

I'm not saying I agree with any of this, but here's why IMO:

1. Many weren't that excited about Book.
2. Book was "only" a 3-star.
3. It was Notre Dame and not a rival like UW.

This would have been a much different story if this a 4-star recruit who bolted to go to UW, ASU, or somewhere like that.

We also have 3 QBs with the oldest a Redshirt Soph. Leach is going to find someone with Pac 12 talent so I don't think there is too much to stress out about at this point. If Bender were to pick up and leave I think you would see some "butthurt" on all the boards.

Agree with this 100%. While it would be great for us to get a top level QB this year, an incoming freshman QB is unlikely to have an impact. Frankly, Book would have been lucky to see the field by his junior season barring a major catastrophe. We can't afford to skip this year if we don't get a great guy next year. My guess is that Leach will either find another Top 50 type talent to offer a schollie to or he will find a walk-on guy like Falk who falls under the radar for whatever reason.

If Leach can't find a top level guy, I'd rather use the scholarship this year on another position where we have more need. I think we can use an extra body in the secondary and wide receiver in particular.

Skipping this year might make it easier to land a "great guy" next year.

Brewer commit aside I agree with the philosophy of taking a QB in every class. The "great guy" won't care about the competition in the pipeline anyway.

I want a great QB in every class. I don't want to give a scholarship to the #78 QB just so we can say we checked a box......unless Leach is convinced that he is going to have the potential to be a great QB.

Leach hasn't seemed like a "check the box" coach when it comes to recruiting and I seriously doubt anyone on this board just wants a body to fill a seat. That said if the prospect(s) are so poor you would rather skip a year than bring someone in (whether it's scholarship or walk-on) over a 5-year cycle that's not what we want to see either.

That hasn't happened and I would expect it to be a rarity under Leach.

This is how you end up one deep at QB.

You take 1 every year not just to take 1 but to be a leader for the recruiting class.

Right now we have Falk, Bender, Hilinski, and now Brewer coming in. The more competition the better the position gets. Now this more than likely won't happen, unless you are a terrible O-line coach/recruiter, but let's say you have 2 QBs knocked out in 1 game against an FCS team. Your 3rd string guy has to be ready to go. Ohio State went through 3 QBs on to win the national title. Now yes their QBs are mobile taking hits, but still...it's in our best interest to be as deep and prepared as possible.

Players transfer. they get injured, and making sure that we are prepared with depth is important to our long term success.

Yep. With only three then a transfer and an injury leaves one in a desperate situation, one more illness/injury from disaster.

I think its cool he'll be mentioned often as a ' Mike Leach Committment' every time he's introduced at Notre Dame to increase his stature. Free Pub, as they say.

Leach is doing fine overall recruiting the fickle QB position

You recruit the QB as a leader? So, what kind of leadership was Bruggman giving as he left the program? How about Apodaca? I agree that you take a QB if you feel that he is capable of being a leader in your program down the road. It's stupid to take someone just so you can say that you picked someone.

Tron was referring to leading that year's recruiting class, i.e. aid in attracting other recruits. As far as leadership beyond that is concerned, who knows? Lots of turnover at that position. Most do not pan out. I cannot believe that Leach is stupid enough to give a scholarship at that or any other position without some confidence that the individual appeared to have the ability to perform at this level.

And to add, we were recruiting this player prior to Bookers "commit". So it's not like CML just picked a leftover or something. Is he a 5star player? Nope. But I'll be honest, that size is pretty cool. If he has a throwing arm, this kid could be very exciting to watch grow up. Whom was the last qb we had that size??? Leaf?

Leadership is also knowing when to walk away, especially when it will likely be better for the team in addition to yourself.

Again, I'm not against taking a QB in every class as long as you feel that he's got the skills to lead when the time comes. I just don't buy into the idea that you offer a scholarship to a QB just so you can say that you checked the box. Brewer sounds like a solid QB and I love the idea of a 6'6" guy who's got some wheels to boot. If Leach likes the kid enough to offer him, he must think he's worth it.
