Others have mentioned the Cardiac Kids this year, particularly in the past month. For you youngsters, that was the 1965 team that not only defied national "guru" predictions to win a lot of games, but also managed to do most of their damage in the last few minutes of the half, and frequently sealed the win in the last couple minutes of the game. This was a team with few seniors and a pile of contributors that were second year kids.

Of course, last night we dialed up yet another game winning drive in the final minutes, and it is clear that this team believes they can do that when ever necessary.

I think it is time to officially dub these guys "The New Cardiac Kids"...53 years later.

And the coach of that '65 squad was. . . . . .?

Yes, Glad. And Clark is widely blamed for not utilizing all those underclassmen better in the subsequent years.

It starts with senior leadership. If they have that AND coaching, together with some recruiting talent, a program will do well. With two out of three you can do well on an irregular basis. With one out of three you might get the occasional good season, but no more.

I regard Bert Clark as one of our bad coaches. He took over a team that was having winning seasons around half the time under Sutherland and buried it by the time he was done. Our program went 10-40-1 in his last two seasons and Sweeney's first three seasons. That's pretty damned Wulffian. He's the Kevin Eastman of our football coaches.

“He's the Kevin Eastman of our football coaches.”

But far, FAR more brutal. Talk to the old-timers. He was just vicious to his teams and players. A Bear Bryant wannabe.
