Always a risk, absolutely.

For Mata'afa, his stock is potentially never higher than it is now. Were he to return, he would be doing so with a new coordinator and risking potential injury throughout the course of the season. A year from now he'll still be undersized in the eyes of many NFL scouts, so I don't blame him for striking while the iron is hot.
