This could be the end of WSU as P5 program

IIRC,the reasoning for stadium expansion from Biggs, Tron and Yaki was that perception matters to:
  • recruits
  • sponsors
  • stadium naming rights opportunists
  • fans who want upgraded season tickets
  • image-concious TV executives
  • future WSU students, most of whom reside in one of the fastest-growing regions of the country
  • others
Not saying your wrong 425; I wholeheartedly agree that adding even 10,000 seats is a risk considering everything that's happened in 2020.

Just pointing out that there are a number of posters on this board (and other Cougar sites) who have repeatedly called for expanding Martin Stadium.

I get the rationale. It's just not a persuasive one.

I could see (i) expanding the north side to add an additional set of suites and/or club seating, and/or (ii) filling out the bowl, largely for optics reasons, on the east side. The latter would be easier and cheaper, especially with the long-term plan calling for no traffic through Stadium Way and making it a pedestrian area. Something that takes the stadium up to 40,000 or so.

I think that's where we ultimately *could* top it out if acting reasonably. Even that is unlikely anytime soon, though, to say the least.

(I see this is pretty much exactly what Flat is writing, and agree.)

Good analysis per usual.

I will say that hope everybody on this board is in favor of moving full speed ahead on the New IPF. So damn important.

Get that finished and it's another weapon in RoLo's recruiting arsenal.

Your facilities are non verbal communication and body language. The better they are, the stronger the message is about how serious you are about winning games. You cant have coaches telling kids how great the program is and then show them a weight room that looks like a dungeon, a small stadium, a makeshift press box, small locker room, etc. It isnt congruent to what they are saying.

If you want to land high end kids you have to have high end facilities and a high end commitment financially. Being “just enough” or “we don't need more” isn't going to help.

Going cheap got WSU 100 years of not f$cking much. Maybe it’s time to try spending some $$$???

Go hard or don’t go at all.

Especially when WSU is so close to grabbing that brass ring.

Thanks ... the IPF is key, especially with the climate and WSU's recruiting posture vis-a-vis the rest of the conference. It's much more important to WSU recruiting than the size of the stadium. I had concerns about its funding since the recent push to build it commenced, and those are heightened now.
