Here's an interesting stat comparison for Malachi Flynn. Last year his turnover rate was 20.7% and this year thru 6 games it is 4.6% - among the nations leaders. (By comparison Acquaah is struggling with a 35% turnover rate - he will get better)

This teams showing is largely the result of some amazing development by Flynn, Franks, Daniels, and Pollard all of whom were lightly recruited out of high school. Chidom, Acquaah and Skaggs would appear to be in that mode also. Franks has improved as much as any WSU player I've ever seen - although he had the skill set to begin with.

I bring that up because I admit that I never thought player development was a strength of Ernie's at Oregon. I always thought he was a good game coach though - partly influenced by the fact that he flat out owned Dick Bennett when they matched up.

We haven't had a chance yet to see the full on-court impact of new staff hires with regards to recruiting (except Skaggs). I think Haskins and Seltzer may be part of the reason for the amazing energy this team plays with. Really looking forward to Elleby and hopefully we won't see as many JC transfers unless they can come in and really push for playing time.

The key was Kent s ability to recognize under valued talent. If one looks at many of the players they showed the skill sets needed to become good D 1 players. A lot of enamored posters only looked at the stars which are given mostly by the incompetent monitors and " experts" at places like brand X. It is almost comical as they give their" expert analysis" of Kent s program and players. Those little nerds are probably deleting texts and emails, faster than than the er.. current administration.Yes having younger coaches who relate well to the players helps with energy hustle and enthusiasm.

Well...he owned Dick Bennett due to far greater talent more than anything.

I have always liked being able to develop players over time vs the one and dones. Though it would be a nice problem to have.

The reason that Bennett beat other teams like UCLA and Arizona but not Oregon did have a lot to do with Ernie. Unlike the other schools with superior talent Kent was willing to play at Bennett's tempo, and use his shooters in half court. The others tried to speed us up and took much more contested shots early playing in to Bennett's hands.

Agree that was the worst call. However it wasn't fans. They called a Cougar bench player who ran on to the court with less than 1 second left thinking the buzzer had sounded. He did not interfere with the attempt to inbound the ball and even the Oregon player appeared to believe there was no time left.

I always felt that travesty cost us more than just one win due to the impact on a very young team.

No. It was Brown the kid from Shadle. Casto scored the basket on a breakaway after Klay stole the ball. Casto got hammered, but made the shot with less than a second left. Refs huddled and decided to T us up for being on the court. Oregon made both free throws then beat us in ot. It was later determined that they mis applied the rule as Brown did not interfere with a play.
