I know that dgibbons has been insisting that liberals should want Trump to be assassinated if they feel so strongly about it. The events that happened this afternoon show why it's so f#cking insane to even joke about it. We don't live in a banana republic and we shouldn't be shooting at politicians that we don't like.

I just watched an early news report. Weird. The "shots" almost sounded like firecrackers, but Trump grabbed his ear and it was bloody. Hard to understand how if they were shots and he did get grazed how did no one in the crowd get hit? Guess we will know all pretty soon here.
Would I shed tears if something happened to Trump? I'd be a liar if I said that I would. That said, I don't condone or encourage people taking matters into their own hands.

I doubt it will have much of an effect on Trump's base, as they are pretty locked in anyway. What I wonder is what the effect will be on undecideds, moderates, independents. Will they be likely to decide there is no way they will reward a D with their vote this election?

I'm sorry, but that is just stupid! Right now, Trump is sitting well, ahead or tied in national polls, and also ahead in almost all swing states. The possibility that it is all staged is about 100,000,000,000 to one. Any such shenanigans would almost certainly be exposed quickly and that would absolutely cost him the election. That kind of crap would drive millions of voters away.

ok. Seems to be legit reports now surfacing that the shooter is dead and one person in the crowd was shot and critical. I literally saw the first couple of SM posts before news outlets were picking up on it and it looked like some faked video since there were no real reports yet, which is why I posed the question.

As angry and upset as this has made me, I'm further angered and saddened to know that by tomorrow the lone victim will become political cannon fodder for the Trump campaign. Hope he was ok with becoming a martyr.
Glad you can have a sense of humor about assassination attempts on political candidates. I realize people like you and the shooter would rather see him dead because he is who he is, but the fact that our political climate has sown this is incredibly upsetting to me.
