Complete failure in leadership at the top...Chancellor, President, etc. Finally others got movement. Deafening silence for almost a week after the LA Times broke the story. A prostitute actually OD'd while with him. The Times pretty much kept the story on the front page ever since they broke it. This morning there is a follow on piece regarding substance abuse by physicians. One of the points made was that substance abuse by physicians is roughly similar in terms of percentages to the population at large, but that physicians can hide it better as well as assure themselves of a source of supply. They therefore do not get interventions or treatment as promptly as most people.
The utter ineptitude of the University's initial response (or lack thereof)...which dragged on for days...is almost unbelievable. Extremely embarrassing. At first the events themselves were the story. After about 48 hours the story became SC's inability to address the issue publically. And it got worse from there.
