That game still sticks in my craw. In my book, that was the worst call I've ever seen vs. WSU. I agree with you, Bob. That game felt like more than a single loss. The team seemed to lose a lot of momentum for the rest of the season. I don't know if it would have ultimately changed Ken Bone's fate, but it certainly didn't help.You are right. I didn't mean to imply that Casto wasn't able to contribute at the PAC 10 level. I have was trying to show that he wasn't ready to contribute at the level of Baynes as a senior. My point being that the inexperience of the team Tony left was a major factor in the further drop off in Bones first year. Of course the screw job in the Oregon game didn't help either. I always felt that game cut the heart out if a young team for awhile.
Of course, the coach on the other sideline in that game who successfully lobbied the officials on such a horrible call: Ernie Kent. I remember being enraged by comments he made after that game in which he praised the officials for making that call saying that it was the correct and proper decision. How he kept a straight face while saying that was oscar-worthy.
