Vernon Adams must pass one last exam

When Baldwin is ready to move on... and it won't be for a few more years... perhaps several...he isn't going to Utah State to 'prove' himself.

If Leach 'retires' out of WSU, implying long term success, his replacement will come from his staff, wouldn't you think?

Why would Baldwin stay at EWU one second longer than he has to?

I don't know Baldwin in any way. Haven't heard anything about how he likes the Cheney, Spokane area. But believe it or not, 96, some people like this area. Gonzaga's Mark Few has been VERY open about that being one of the reasons he likes it. I believe CML has stated as much, as well about Pullman.

On a professional level, there are many people that prefer to do the whole small fish bowl, thing. He's king of his domain, right now. Small as that domain is. Don't know if he's get the hell out of dodge ASAP or not. But playing the other side of that coin you've pointed to, many people like being king fish in the small bowl, rather than risk the big bowl, filled with big fish.

I happen to be someone who loves living the area.

That said, coaching at EWU for life makes for some pretty mediocre goals. He cannot really expect to take them much further. Even the legendary coaches at Montana and NDSU moved on to the FBS level when the chance came. I expect Baldwin will also do that.

He was publically very interested in the Or State gig. I don't know if he was in the running if Gary Anderson wouldn't have fallen in their lap.

He does definitely like the Spokane area from what I understand for the record so I doubt you'll see him jump for a directional FBS school across the country.

Maybe. Don't know. You asked a pretty open ended question, I had an easy, open ended answer. It's such a personality thing. Wanna be a big fish in a small pond or a mediocre (or small still) fish is a big pond… pick your poison. I would probably agree though. Just playing devils advocate. I don't know him so it's all conjecture based on "odds" of what we know others do/did.

Without at least assistant coach experience at a Power 5 school, Baldwin would have something to prove.
