What are the chances that Cam

Very different eras. The QB wasn't supposed to run in Elways prime because the defense would tear his head off
Yeah, because the QB was one of the slowest guys on the field. Elway was from the stone-footed drop-back passer era. QBs who could run were an anomaly - Randall Cunningham wouldn't really stand out much in today's league, but back then seeing a QB tuck & run was weird.

Mobile QBs didn't really start to become normal-ish until we were well into the 2000s. Vick showed that it could work, but even after him it was pretty rare for a team to use an early pick on a QB who they knew would run and then leave them at QB. We probably didn't really turn that corner until the last 10-12 years. There are still a lot more QBs picked who are a lot closer to being the stereotypical pure passer than they are scramblers (although that might end tonight).

How Fran Tarkenton lasted as long as he did is amazing.
You are right about Tarkenton. Joe Willy did not run nearly as much as Fran in a similar era, but by the end of his career he could barely walk due to the knee & related injuries. Tarkenton was amazing. He must have had an exceptional group of linemen for much of his time in the league.

Russell Wilson reminded me of Fran Tarkenton(in highlights...never saw him play) in regards to his running around and switching fields.

Especially when they traded Unger and the Oline went to crap.

I want to say Vick was the first QB in NFL history to run for 100 yards in a game. Then again, Vick wasn't able to beat decent coverage with his arm.

If this guy were coached by Bill Walsh....he might be in the Hall.

There is no doubt that both coaching and the system you are in will have a lot to do with getting to the NFL Hall. And certain coaches are not only better than others, but also their systems also tend to favor certain athletes over others.

I'm really surprised that the NFL didn't follow Landry's lead and deliver the ball from the shot gun instead of some quarterbacks with really good potential doing a drop back, the pocket collapses and them running for their lives. I'm sure you know this story of Walsh interviewing for the expansion Seahawks and no one hiring him because Paul Brown had blacklisted him. Steve Deberg had it better than Douglass or Zorn. Z and D developed really bad habits while Deberg played and started for so many seasons.
