Obviously we all know who we root for in college football, and we all know in politics, but what about the pros?

For me: 1] colts (since '76) 2] seahawks (same) 3] probs chiefs or - this year - lions.

And 90, condolences on the blocked game-winning fg attempt today. Brutal. That's all I have to say about that.

Huh. So no consistent team throughout the years?

That's kinda how I am in the NBA, actually. Lakers are my root-against team
I found it too hard to LOVE an NFL team after learning to Hate Seattle back in the mid 80's.

Closest I could call myself a "team fan" of was Cleveland Browns as I idolized Bernie Kosar. Maybe Buffalo Bills back with Jim Kelly.

Its a lot easier just to cheer the Cougs on

Whoever’s on my fantasy team…which isn’t going so well this year.

Otherwise….nobody in particular. I stopped following the NFL closely about 20 years ago (except rooting against Tom Brady at every opportunity). It was just too mercenary. Shawn Alexander was one of the final straws, when he was mediocre for long stretches, and then had a dominant season in a contract year so he’d get paid and then went back to going down on first contact. I turned to CFB wholesale because there was at least some loyalty there.
Now that that’s gone, I’ve started going back to the NFL, because at least they’re honest about what they’re doing. I’m quietly rooting for the Lions to finally do something (while not expecting it), and rooting against the Chiefs because Mahomes is the Lebron James of the NFL, and there’s just something weird going on there. Bad calls, strange bounces, and officiating mistakes don’t always come out in your favor unless there’s some shenanigans going on.

Grew up a Browns fan being that I was born in Akron. She'd many a tears in the 80s rooting for the real Dawgs, dang that was tough. Once the team left, I kinda left the NFL...then a few years later, ended up at WSU for school. Since then, the brain space that the NFL occupies is minute compared to college football and the Cougs...and even that, since I had kids starting in 2012, even that has faded quite a bit.

Pulled the Steelers t-shirt on in the late 70's and never took it off. I'm not a diehard fan and have never been to a game in Pittsburgh even though it is on my bucket list. I root for former Cougs to do well but only statistically. I'm fine when they win but don't really care.

Broncos, but not with any passion.
I'm not going to become emotionally invested in corporate football.
If they put out a good product, then I'm in, but if they aren't good, I'm not going to worry about it.
Honestly, its really hard to care about the NFL. The quality of play is very uniform, so it gets kind of tedious.
Like rooting hard for Burger King to beat McDonalds and Subway.

It was…but I’ve got a feeling it inspires this team. Broncos are making the playoffs and will be dangerous. Nix is the real deal and the defense locked up the chiefs. As nix gets better and the $70 million of cap hell is over that can be used for some weapons, the broncos will be taking the afc west back over.

What's with the hate? Just curious.

Seattle is fuw. I don't like anything that benefits fuw. Seattle and fuw are the same. Whether it's sports... arrogance... politics... drugs... crime...etc...

When Seattle does poorly, the suffering fuskies go through brings me happiness.

I spent enough time in Seattle... all parts... all events...

Me hate.

Nix does appear to be. Anthony Richardson blows although now with flacco giving the ball away just as much it probs is time to turn back to AR and see if he can learn and improve. They're NOT making the playoffs. The broncos just might now that their defense has returned to 2022 levels. Taihtsat

I saw a season-opener for the steelers there in 2002, raiders with Rich Gannon. They went on to get drubbed in the Superbowl that season. A buddy and me left the WSU - Ohio State game and drove there for the Sunday night game.

Angry crowd...angry city. Several fights in the stands, bottles thrown. The city was better than I expected, tho. Taihtsat

By default, I’m a bit of a Seahawk fan but I’m over their losses in 2 minutes or less as opposed to Coug games I’m still upset about from 2005, 2007……

Originally I was a Miami Dolphins fan who happened to win the Super Bowl when I was 7 or 8 years old. I have a theory that a lot of fans who root for teams they have no geographic connection to probably won the Super Bowl whenever said fan was started following football in that 8-12 year old range. Anyone guilty of that?

At least 50% of NFL fans. Anyone older than me by a few years didn't have a team in Seattle to root for, so it was whoever won the SB.

I moved to WA in 81 and was 8 and somehow got lucky enough to be a Seahawks and Coug fan. What a lucky guy I am...

To be fair, I never thought I'd see a Lombardi in Seattle and it happened. I never thought I'd see us beat SC in LA and it happened. Rose Bowl, 10+ win seasons, legit shot at a playoff...

I am a lucky guy.

Mr. Henley is up for All Pro at LB with my Chargers. And I get to watch Herbert (an exceptional QB) and remember a particular ESPN Game Day with satisfaction. What’s not to like?

Definitely. I was 12-13 when I started following the NFL. The Raiders were coming off a Super Bowl win, and Joe Montana was taking the 49ers to another. Those two became my teams. The Raiders faded as Tom Flores forgot how to coach in the playoffs, but I stuck with the 49ers up until Steve Young hung it up. By that time I was deep into college ball and didn’t really bother with finding a new NFL favorite.

I latched on the Dallas Cowboys in the late 60's, then added the Oakland Raiders in early 70's. Stuck with them for a long time. Started enjoying the Seahawks as we got into the 80's, but Dallas was still #1. Raisers had faded away as Hawks got more attention, and Cowboys faded away after Troy Aikman retired. They were a great team to watch in the 90's with him, Michael Irvin, and Emmitt Smith. Seahawks have faded away for me after the Legion of Boom/Doom dissipated. Of course, the entire NFL has pretty much lost its attraction for me anyway.

Sorta. I have no connection to Denver, my older brother bet me $1 when I was 8 that the Skins would beat the Broncos in ‘87. Broncos got trounced and I was pissed. He was a raiders fan. Seahawks with Baring were tanking to move to LA at the time. That’s when I starting rooting for the broncos and have been a die hard since.

You might have something there. I definitely think sports fans tend to get imprinted in that young age range and from then on, you usually can't help it. For me it was age 10.

I liked the colts unis and they seem to always be fighting an uphill battle against the Steelers (who I hated), the raiders and the dolphins.

Doug Gottleib once said "you don't get to choose who you root for, it just happens". I think that's pretty much true. Taihtsat

Grew up a '49ers fan because my dad was. Of course he didn't have a NW team, so he chose the '49ers when he was a kid. Worked out well during the '80s because I could claim that I liked the '49ers before their "dynasty." But when we moved back to the NW, I latched on the Seahawks only because that's what everyone else was.

And I was an NFL guy all the way up until that snowy day before Thanksgiving in '92. That transformed me from an NFL guy to a college guy forever. NFL is a curiosity now.

Growing up in Iowa, I latched onto the Packers at the age of 10, which was the start of their glory years. I was hooked from then on. I liked the Hawks, until the Baring years. That sort of cooled me on the whole NFL. Enjoyed the Hawks run for the Super Bowls, but not as much as when the Pack was doing it in the ‘60s.

Born in Boston. WSU is the only team I cheer for outside of New England.
That’s an odd combo. The underdog of underdogs and the dynasty of dynasty’s. Of course I remember when the Pats were the laughingstock of the league for several years, you’ve been through some hard times too.

“Mr President…you need to get the national guard down here because we are killing the patriots!”

Where in Iowa did you grow up?

My parents were from South Dakota. I had a Packers helmet when I was a kid. And a WSU helmet circa '70's.

I heard River Cracraft's name mentioned for Miami yesterday. Glad to see he's still hanging in there.......

Outside of the Celtics, the other 3 Boston teams were agonizingly Coug-like when I was growing up. Red Sox had the curse of the Bambino, the Bruins would always lose to the Canadians in the playoffs, and the Patriots didn't win a home playoff game for like 40 years.

Considering the pats amazing run and the curse being broken along with the Celtics resurgence this is oft forgotten about the Boston sports scene. It used to make Cleveland look good.
