Did the GOAT, Nick Saban ever talk about...

...love when describing his football team and his success? I don't recall Leach talking about love, either.

This was something that Dickert talked about after we beat the Evil Empire (and at other times), and Kiligis was carry on with this theme yesterday.

Any coach that focuses on love is a bad sign for me. If our next coach continues this theme I will immediately declare that they will fail as the head coach.

Football coaching success is about discipline, scheme, intensity, recruiting, teamwork, preparation, conditioning, strength training, etc.

It ain't above love.

Anyone else have these thoughts?

Looks like Koetter was never available

Boise State's Dirk Koetter retires after historic season

BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — Boise State football's Offensive Coordinator Dirk Koetter has officially retired after a historic season for the program.

Koetter said on his Facebook page, "A gigantic thank you for all the support along the way....To see 30,000+ orange-clad Bronco fans at the Fiesta Bowl in the first-ever College Playoff on the 31st was something to behold."

Koetter emphasized how schools steal recruits by offering two to 10 times what Boise State can offer in name, image and licensing.

"We are losing recruits in the portal to schools that are just flat outbidding us. I know it's not all about the money, and Coach Danielson and staff will undoubtedly continue to find the 'right kind of guys,' but money is an issue."

Despite these issues, Koetter said the 12-win season and a 2nd straight Mountain West Championship indicate success and a bright future. He also praised Athletic Director Jeremiah Dickey and Coach Spencer Danielson as incredible leaders.

Make the team untransferable

I'm part joking, part serious, part re-acting to the apparent implosion of the football program but I'd like to see a new offensive approach. I'd like to revamp the offensive approach at WSU. Recruit qbs who can run but are mediocre passers and lineman who never step backwards in a pass set. Run some amalgamation of the Academies offenses or the wing T, single wing, wishbone anything that runs all the time. Make the players so one dimensional that it would scare off other teams from poaching them. I'm aware it a somewhat dumb idea but I think we are in an outside box situation.

What could have been…

We open 8-1 (we were probably never beating Jeanty on the road), warts and all. Coaching carousel/portal happens and the team absolutely implodes; ending 2024 with an 0-4 skid to close the season, notwithstanding the respectable last stand in San Diego.

In another universe, at full strength and without the drama, we effortlessly go 12-1 and are a bubble playoff team, either winning our bowl game or at least showing out and demanding a second look as a future P4 add.

Instead, university admins are broadcasting pay cuts for the school’s golden goose in this pivotal transition year, the entire team hits the eject button and we go from minor league royalty to an also-ran in the MWC.

Hindsight is 20/20, but it’s honestly difficult to imagine playing a poker hand any worse. I wonder how grim it gets from here in terms of recruiting and staffing in light of public austerity, power conference demotion and bowl tie-ins and revshare, staffing instability, etc.
