One of the recruits I was actually excited about decided to peace out. I've heard rumors Jyden King isnt expected to sign either. Bottom line is this class might end up ranked 12/12 in conference.

Will be an excellent reason to fire McBath. we could find someone who can’t even coach but is a recruiter and be instantly better

WSU will always be ranked in the bottom fourth of the conference in recruiting because those who rank the kids only think the good players go to the cool schools. The articles written by these geniuses have not changed in the last thirty years....Go back and look when Drew Bledoe signed with WSU - the Cougs were still ranked at the bottom of the Pac 10.

Whatever FatFetter says I’ll go with the exact opposite.

This is a big loss. With possibly more to come. The funny Leach has wore off just like it did at his last stop. Parents want nothing to do with their kids being involved with a coach that would embarrass himself like Leach did after the Applecup. I just spoke with a parent that had a kid considering WSU. They called that tirade bush league, and would never let their kid play for that child.

Sanctimonious troll: self righteous individual who posts inflammatory comments intended to elicit emotional responses. It’s just possible Blanchette isn’t the only one around.

This has to be Blanchette !! Good grief.

Seriously?

A Division I football prospect cares that much about John Blanchet's feelings?

Yeah spit out my drink reading that drivel.

A Division 1 football player needs to be mentally tough enough to go up against the best , but man it is just a bridge too far if Leach takes apart an Op Ed writer after a loss. I hope these "fictitious parents" and this "fictitious player" finds their "happy safe place" but it is not going to be playing D1 football.

I'm afraid WSU has no choice but to fire Leach immediately in order to salvage the recruiting class.

Yeah, right.

Glad Cougar

This is like when people talk about “letting” their kids join the military. If he’s old enough to play and he’s on scholarship, he’s an adult and it’s no longer up to you to “let” him do anything.

This does seem to have some truth to it. Felt like most places barely had De Laura as a 3 star prospect until SC and OSU offered, then his rating sky rocketed..

Guess they’d steer clear of Alabama too.

Haha, sure. Thanks, UW troll posing as a WSU fan.

Sometimes a low ranking isn't warranted. Sometimes it is. Unfortunately, it appears like we are looking at the later this year. Our assistant coaches just haven't been getting it done on the trail. For recruiting purposes alone, some changes in the staff are in order.

How did Leach embarrass himself. My guess is he has no regrets. This mythical student has no interest in WSU , but not for this.

Actually, our Bledsoe class was, at the time, considered #24 in the country by Lindy's. That said, Price produced only two similar quality recruiting classes during his entire tenure. Nevertheless, there is a correlation between higher ranking in recruiting and winning, the only real question is the strength of that correlation. I would love to see Leach sign a top 25 class, with it, and his coaching, we would likely make a true championship run. However, a leopard can't change his spots, and the quirkiness that makes him Mike Leach, also makes it difficult for the typical 17 year old football player to warm to.

Price had the benefit of prop 48 up until like 96 or something like that. I still think they should bring that back. How many kids lives would be changed for the better if there was a possibility they could go to a 4 year school even if they weren’t fully qualified? The 2004 class would have been amazing. Besides the ‘99 class Price’s recruiting wasn’t off the charts. Very similar to Leach’s. We need to keep bodies in the program. Can’t be signing 4 JC dB’ sand have them all gone except for one before the end of the season.

FWIW, I like our current class regardless of its ranking by the "experts". We have a solid QB....again. We have tall offensive linemen that can grow into the role, we've got a couple defensive ends that will have a chance to grow into 275 lb studs in a couple years. A couple linebackers that have the frame to be good in a couple years. A 6'2" defensive back. A couple decent looking running back commits and a couple decent looking WR commits.

It's not a sexy class and it certainly doesn't scream "instant impact", but the core of this class looks really solid. We need a cornerback or two, another linebacker, another defensive tackle, maybe another running back and another wide receiver. We still have two months to find those guys but frankly, this senior class is small enough that we probably can't take a full 25 guy class, although we want to be close just in case a couple don't make it.

Keep in mind we lost or dismissed a handful of players this year who were on Scholarship. We will have close to 23-25 scholies available before the dust settles.

What you see with Leach is what you get, there are plenty of coaches that are PC with the media, and then cuss up a storm and yell at kids, but you never see that. There are coaches that yell and scream and there are coaches that don't, with a staff of 11 coaches, every staff has a little of both. So for someone to base their decision on Leach based upon a media interview, without meeting him in person, is foolish. IMO they have blinders on to the rest of the coaches out there.

Leach's offense seems like it's relatively recruiting-proof. He's taken a walk on, a mid major transfer and a JC transfer who sat for 3 years, and turned them into all conference caliber QBs.

He's also taken mostly under-recruited WRs, OL & RBs (save for maybe Marks & Borghi) and turned them into very productive players.

As long as Leach is here, I won't be too worried about recruiting wins on the offensive side of the ball.

In terms of the defense, I'd love to see a DC with some west coast recruiting ties brought in. Wouldn't mind seeing a position coach or two replaced with some west coast guys as well. Unfortunately, there's not been any turnover in the Pac12 this year, so not much in the way of poaching opportunity.

What we lack - what we've always lacked - is meaningful depth.

Yes, he gets guys and eventually they are productive, but weve been incredibly lucky with no major injuries to our key posistion(s) during Leachs tenure. And as evidenced this year at the db position, sometimes it isnt even injury that will deplete your depth.

Yes and no. On the offensive side we play 8+ receivers and 2+ RBs every game. On D, they rotate the linemen. We've been thin in the secondary and at LB, and probably OL since the starting five play almost all game even in blowouts.

We had 13 seniors recognized on Senior Day (not including Hilinski). Did we lose 10-12 other scholarship players this year? Maybe we did. Maybe we were already short of 85. Just looking though, it doesn't appear that we can take a full class of 25 unless we have some greyshirt candidates or expecting one or two to fail to qualify.

We always seem to make room.

The 99 class was similar to Leach's recruiting except for the fact that Price signed a 5 star QB and, one of the top recruits nationally, a 5 star DB, a 5 star RB, a 4 star WR/DB, a 4 star WR and a 4 star LB/TE, a 4 star DT. Give Price some credit, he recruited a Rose Bowl calibre class but for the fact that his 5 star QB was a slow learner, apparently. Put Minshew, Leaf or the groper on that 92 team, and we'd have gone to 3 Rose Bowls under Price.

I went through the official roster twice and count 59 players coming back next year who who are currently on scholarship.
