Bill Doba was an amazing person and a great coach. Life dealt him a tough go.
Agree with everything here. Also having a high football IQ doesnt make you qualified to be a D1 OC. There’s a progression. I like Jason, good dude and should have been a lifetime ambassador for WSU. He F’d up but I believe people deserve second chances. If he were to take a crack at college he’d need to start at QB coach and learn, for at least a couple of years. The game and management of a D1 football program is way different than it was 20 years ago.
Gesser's football IQ as a player was off the charts. When he was at Idaho, there wasn't much indication that he was able to pass his insights along.
Akey was overrated. He benefited significantly from the defense that Doba built...and it got worse every year under him. He's been DC at Central Michigan since 2019, apparently, and his defense this season is roughly as bad as ours. They give up 31.5 points and 371 yards per game, 4.6 yards per rush and 7.3 per pass. They allow a 60.66% completion rate. They're pretty good on 3rd down, allowing only 33.6% conversions...but then they allow 63.6% conversions on 4th down. They also give up points in the red zone almost 89% of the time.
I'd take Doba back as DC if he was 60. Might take him a bit to adapt to present-day offenses though.

It’s pretty tough for the current HC to understand. He would rather have a third DC show up and run his BS scheme than go with what has worked.
What do you do if the entire OL walks into your office and says… we want to negotiate a deal or we are entering the portal before the bowl game.

If we get respectable QB play, it's somewhat fair to assume that the defense won't be worse.

The NCAA has totally and completely devolved into incompetence. Apparently there is no such thing as amateur athletes any more, except possibly 6-8 year old tee ballers.
At this time:
No roster limit.
No salary cap.
No draft where worst teams choose first.
No tampering rules.
No multi year deals.
And now….. a free agent cycle where the labor can leave the program before your biggest game of the year unless you pay them. Imagine both Super Bowl rosters walking into the front office and saying they won’t play unless contracts are renegotiated?

If WSU just came out and said there will be no collective and the school will not be helping athletes find NIL deals at all…. Im 200% fine with it.
Let the players hire their own agents and find their own deals. You can get what you can drum up. But WSU somehow being in the middle of sponsorship deals and finding themselves having to have some weird role in it in order to keep kids on the roster for bowl prep is lunacy.

Since Dickert won more than double that this year and made a bowl game, you must want WSU to kick in another $4,000,000 a year for Dickert.
Saying Dickert isn't a good coach is fine, but you lost yourself when you started name-calling the guy. Not sure what has happened to you over the years, but you're too old for that stuff. Dickert is a good guy. Is he over his head? Maybe, but we've certainly had worse coaches. He's done nothing to deserve personal attacks from the fan base.
