Nothing is ever guaranteed in football. If Dickert can do another good job of keeping kids from leaving and he finds competent coordinators and takes a long look at whoever is responsible for teaching tackling technique.....we could have a good season. Next year will be tougher than this one, but there are still a lot of winnable games on the schedule if we can figure out the whole second half adjustment thing. If our team plays just a touch better next year, our schedule could look like:

Another 8-4 season. Of course, we could easily go 4-8 against that schedule just as easily.

Agree with everything here. Also having a high football IQ doesnt make you qualified to be a D1 OC. There’s a progression. I like Jason, good dude and should have been a lifetime ambassador for WSU. He F’d up but I believe people deserve second chances. If he were to take a crack at college he’d need to start at QB coach and learn, for at least a couple of years. The game and management of a D1 football program is way different than it was 20 years ago.

Gesser's football IQ as a player was off the charts. When he was at Idaho, there wasn't much indication that he was able to pass his insights along.

Akey was overrated. He benefited significantly from the defense that Doba built...and it got worse every year under him. He's been DC at Central Michigan since 2019, apparently, and his defense this season is roughly as bad as ours. They give up 31.5 points and 371 yards per game, 4.6 yards per rush and 7.3 per pass. They allow a 60.66% completion rate. They're pretty good on 3rd down, allowing only 33.6% conversions...but then they allow 63.6% conversions on 4th down. They also give up points in the red zone almost 89% of the time.

I'd take Doba back as DC if he was 60. Might take him a bit to adapt to present-day offenses though.

Find a MLB that can run sideline to sideline.
Fill in around with as much speed as you can.
