2025

How does it get better next year?

Nothing is ever guaranteed in football. If Dickert can do another good job of keeping kids from leaving and he finds competent coordinators and takes a long look at whoever is responsible for teaching tackling technique.....we could have a good season. Next year will be tougher than this one, but there are still a lot of winnable games on the schedule if we can figure out the whole second half adjustment thing. If our team plays just a touch better next year, our schedule could look like:

Idaho: W
SDSU: W
@ North Texas: W
UW: L
@ CSU: L
@ Ole Miss: L
@ Virginia: W
Toledo: W
@ OSU: L
La Tech: W
@ JMU: W
OSU: W

Another 8-4 season. Of course, we could easily go 4-8 against that schedule just as easily.

Well, you get to play us Beavers twice next year, that should count for something, right?

I'm not annoyed about playing the Cougars twice next year. We've been through a lot together, so we're just helping each other get the rest of the way through this.

PAC-12 expansion & media rights... we have that to look forward to in 2025. Or maybe sooner. Without linking a bunch of articles to back all this up, here's what I know...

1 - John Canzano seems to be all over the place on when things will happen. I've read or heard anywhere from this month (December) to no later than March Madness. By "things will happen", that's getting a media deal done or mostly done, and grab 1 or more schools.

2 - I've heard this from two different places that the PAC-12's strategy is to let the media partners guide the conference on what schools to pick. For example, the PAC says "What if we just add UNLV, what will you pay us for the contact?" Or the PAC says "Do we get a better deal with Mephis and Tulane? How much?" By doing this, the PAC can go to the different schools and tell them what the media deal would look like if they join the conference.

3 - UNLV has not signed a GoR with the MWC. Chances with UNLV are believed to be slim, however, but not zero.

4 - One summary of a Canzano article said something like, "Sacramento State is dead - not in the running".

5 - CW is in a strong position to continue as one of the PAC-12's main media partners.

Dave, I was referring to the team. Not the TV stuff or expansion issues.

I do thank you for contributing though.

Hey stupidgibbons.. I can see that you posted. But I have you on ignore. You should do likewise and move on from my threads.
Wait. Nobody had quoted gibby (why would they :) ) prior to you posting this. So you block posters but know that they posted? Howzat work?

1 and 4 - Canzano is like a broken watch. Correct twice a day (or 2/24 of the time).
2 - Well I would hope so. What if the media partners say "Go grab the #20 market in the country and BTW they will also be the cheapest to get".
3 - UNLV doesn't meet the metrics. So what if they are 10-2 and in the MW championship?
5 - Well I would hope so.

Oh, oops!

Okay, Cougs, keep Mateer and improve the supporting cast around him!

Perhaps develop more depth, too. Seems like the Cougars got tired (or beat up) at the end of the season.

I plan on going to both OSU vs WSU games next year and look forward to watching Mateer play.

By the way, a bunch of us Beavers in the Portland/Vancouver area were really pulling for the Cougars to make it to the College Football Playoffs. We even had the conversation, "If the Beavs need to lose to the Cougs for them to make it to the CFP, then what do we do?"

New Mexico solved that problem. As a note: New Mexico is coached by Bronco Mendenhall, a former Beaver player who started his coaching career at Oregon State. A couple of times when the Beavers had a football head coach opening, Mendenhall was my choice to fill it.

You don’t know who next years coaches or players are yet you’re predicting wins and losses.

Based on what? Logos?

I simply cannot read this and imagine anything other than a fat slob jv junior high coach with fingers in his ears dancing around, stomping his feet chanting La,La,La, … La, La, La,

Do you know any 6th grade girls active on social media? Kinda like that.

You click “off” ignore, feed your fragile ego then click ignore back “on”, hope nobody noticed, then resume dancing around with your fingers in your ears shouting La,La, La,…

Ignoring people is the funniest thing to do on an anonymous chat board. Like, you can’t handle a random faceless person disagreeing with your opinion? Softer than baby poop.

Frankly, with the way that we've played, throwing legos on the floor and walking barefoot through the room in the dark would be the most accurate way to pick wins and losses....so you're not wrong with your question.

That said, I did take a look at how each team performed this year.

We should always expect to beat an FCS team like Idaho. When that changes, the end days are truly here.
We beat SDSU on the road this year...so why not win at home?
North Texas is a bottom feeder of the AAC...but this is one that we could easily lose if we don't see an improved mindset.
UW is a team that beats us 70% of the time and I figure an L is our future.
CSU is playing decent football and we are likely to lose on the road.
Ole Miss is going to be down next year but I can't see us beating an SEC team on the road.
As for Virginia....same as North Texas....they are a bad team in a bad conference....but this is one that could flip to a loss.
Toledo is a mid level team in a bad conference and we are at home.
Our first game against OSU is on the road and there's no reason to expect anything but a loss again.
La Tech is the same story as Toledo.
James Madison is a pretty decent team in a bad conference. We should win based on talent...but this is another questionable one.
I think we can beat OSU at home but again, we need to be better than we have been in the last month for that to happen.

So....there was some logic to it....but as painful as this season has been to watch, the idea of walking through a lego minefield in the dark feels like the most appropriate way to look at our future.

DC has been fired.

Will be 3 DCs in short order. Not a ringing endorsement of DickTurd’s ability to evaluate and hire coaches.

To be fair Brian Ward was a great hire. Dickert just got weird and tried to hire guys with local ties so they wouldn’t bolt like Ward did to ASU(his hometown). That philosophy backfired.

Ward sucks. Giving up 702 yards in a game is grossly incompetent coaching.

it says content from ignored poster, or words to that effect

I can't fathom putting posters on ignore. Don't care what they think? There's this little wheel on my mouse that scrolls right by to the next post. Perhaps on occasion they might post something worth reading or even replying to. Or worthy of a chuckle.

Yup, every poster on here no matter how much I disagree with them on football or politics has posted something of value at some point. It’s such a chickenshit move to put people on ignore and speaks to your own insecurities.

There are only a couple posters that I have on ignore. One is because their posts were too long and convoluted for my brain to handle and scrolling past was too much work. Another was someone that eventually got booted from this board because they were too damned toxic even for this place.

Other than that....yeah....scroll past.

90 - I agree with you, barely. There are a couple of posters whose value could be stored in that little change pocket on my Levi's.

Flat - I think I know who you speak of. Surprised #2 hasn't resurfaced, as has the Phoenix-like Loyal One, spreading my wings of knowledge, guidance, and all-around wonderfulness among the huddled and downtrodden WW masses. :) Although since I now live in his town and know who he is and where he lives he is smart to stay away.

P.S. Hey Gibby - the smiley face above denotes that I am making a funny. True stuff, but still funny.

How do you struggle so much on defense when the HC is a former DC at the school?

How is the HC not able to hire a DC that is competent?

How is the HC not able to help that DC if needed?

How is the HC not eventually held responsible for the circus caused by his piss poor hiring on the side of the ball that should be his baby?

As an AD, how long do you watch a team so poorly coached and a revolving door of coordinators before stepping in and telling the HC he will be the next one fired?

The absolutely crazy thing is that a well coached WSU team prob is in the playoff. Enough teams will have lost down the stretch that WSU has a shot at sneaking in. But no. It is poorly coached down the stretch and WSU, again, pisses away opportunity.
