The win was Akron's first over a Big Ten team since the program moved up to 1-A (FBS) in 1987. The last win over a Big Ten opponent was a 12-6 win over Ohio St. in 1894.
I can't find the original article I read, but it turns out that in 1894 when Akron beat Ohio State in it's last victory over the now-Big 10, the school's name was Buchtel, and they were led by a player named John Heisman.
