Basketball trivia

In those days there was no limit on how many paid visits you could take. Malone visited a lot of schools. It would have probably been a major stretch to get him in anywhere, even under the much more relaxed academic requirements of that era

Arizona lands 5 star PG Javon Quinerly for 2018. I would like to see the cougs land a couple of recruits.

Seattle s Jontay Porter has reclassified to2017 and is headed to Missouri to play this year. Does anyone know the exact process which makes this possible?

Probably has the credits through AP or community college course would be my guess. Of course a qualifying SAT/ACT as well.

Marvin Bagley 6'11 2018 top recruit, recommitted to 2017, committed to Duke and makes the Dukies the odds on favorite in 2017

November 8 -15 2017 is the signing date for college basketball Things have gotten very quiet in WSU basketball recruiting. Andre Kelly a 6'8 235 PF seems to have narrowed his decision down to Nevada,Cal and WSU.He has only visited Cal as far as we know.. He is an underacted player who averaged 24 pts last year and performed well in summer leagues I have not seen any mention of 7'4 Riley Sorn yet either. The cougs have some targets but little information is coming out.

Andre Kelly would be a really good get for us. He doesn't seem to possess the best lateral quickness but he's a good athlete and seems to have good skills for his size. At a listed 235 he doesn't seem to have really grown into his body as well. I think a good fit in Kent's offense IMO. Tough to beat out Cal for a Cali kid.

Jon Rothstein states that the OSU beavers will be one of the nation s most improved teams. i think that Kent beats them again this year.

They certainly got killed with injuries last season, but I am not sure they have the amount of upside that some people see.

Sorn, Kelly and and a really good 6-5 wing who can shoot and get to the rim would be my wish list for next year.

OSU blows us out of the water in terms of talented players. Last year was an avalanche of bad luck because of injuries/defections. They played most of the year with just seven scholarship players and had two walk-ons in the rotation.
Obviously the key for them is keeping Tres Tinkle healthy but they had a very strong recruiting class also.

By the way the Beavers are playing in Spain and were extremely fortunate to escape the violence in Barcelona. They saw fatalities right outside the hotel they were staying at. They were eating their pregame meal when the van attack occurred.

Yes Barcelona shook the team up.It helps put things in priority for the young men. I saw where Tres Tinkle is playing well in those games. I think that the loss of their very good experienced point guard who carried the team, had a lot to do with Coach s Tinkles first year at the helm. He carried the team both offensively and defensively. I still say that the coug players roll them this year.

Agree, Payton was the straw that stirred the drink. His graduation had as big an impact as the injuries

Grand Canyon U left Barcelona Spain early and did not complete their Tour. They left because of safety concerns

Tamel Pearson 6'9 chicago big man has narrowed his list to 6 schools. WSU along with Olk St and Murray State among the six schools remaining.

Illinois offered him and he did not place them in his top six..I would guess that with a good weight training program and nutritional program that this guy will develop very fast. The cougs should have a great shot with this guy

per brand X,Brandon Clarke a 6'8 210 is transferring from San Jose State. He averaged 17.5 pts and 8/9 rbs and is considering WSU as well as Oregon and other top school. i believe that he has to enroll sometime within the next week or two.

I looked at his options and WSU s only one of about ten schools including Michigan,Oregon ,Utah and others. Unless the cougs have an "in" or the coaches have a personal link ,then it looks at the outset, a slim chance.

Erik Estrada a 17 year old boy from Cicero Ill was shot dead while playing basketball in Chicago. One can see why many players will leave the inner city to escape the violence. If youth are blessed with athletic talent or are academically gifted ,they have a free ticket away from the violence.

Recruiting seems to be at a standstill. The cougs have lost out on some targeted players. The players who seem to be still available are 6'8, Kelly,, 6'9 Pearson.,6'7 Matthews, ,7'4 Sorn,, and jucos ,6'8 Abaev, and 6'9 Carter. The cougs need about 3 players for next year. One wonders if they will land these players.

Juco Recruiting ranked K Hinton as the 24th Nationally rated juco basketball player for the year

Agree on high schoolers. Would like to get Sorn. Don't know enough about the rest of the guys. Need bIgs who can score, but we are still in a place where we need the best available talent regardless if position.

The cougs recruiting has been uneven and sometimes downright strange this year. The recent addition of 6'6 juco Carlton Skruggs seemed to be a reach. A 6'9 juco Devon Victor also visited Pullman during the first week of August. He averaged 10 pts per game. and was rated a 2 star for recruiting purposes. He has since committed to UT-Martin.One wonders what the overall strategy is as they need to sign some quality big men for next yea.r.It seems to be too late to worry about this year,

At this pint 2 of Kelly, Pearson, or Sorn is what I'm hoping for in this class and then a wing. We can't be picky though.

Brando Clarke will visit Gonzaga on Monday and Tuesday and is set to visit Oregon next weekend. Perhaps the Zags wil wrap him up before Oregon has a chance?

Technically they have to before his visit. Last day to enroll is before his visit to Oregon. However, I'm not naive enough to think GU wouldn't enroll him either way.

Do you think we will over sign in the fall period. Probably could be attrition but signing 3 would be pretty aggressive before the season even starts

I really think that there are a couple of players currently on the roster who just are not PAC 12 players. We will see if the new recruit can succeed or he may be gone after one year
I see the line up as follows for this year
PF Pollard - Cooper
PF Bernsteine- Franks
SF Hinton - Chidum
SG Acquaah - Ergas
PG Flynn - Acquaah

The players will be used at different positions depending on the opponent. The new juco recruit may earn playing time if he adjusts to better competition and prove he can get his 3 pt shot off and make 40% of them.

If they are able to get quality I think they would assuming that it's not a violation of some kind.

Don't have a problem if it is A list guys. Not so sure if just roster churning. I think there use to be a conference rule on over signing in football. Not sure about either sport now

The over signing in football had to do with accepting scholarships commits over the set yearly limit. I do not think that basketball has a yearly limit.and the coaches only have to make sure that the final number of players do not exceed the limit set . I believe that it is 13?

avabob ,i was surprised that yu did not speak up for your man Vionte Daniels. You have watched him play more than i have..But playing time will decided in practices and not on certain height or size standards. I wish the players well and it is only 30 some days befoe basketball season starts.

If new guys can outshoot Daniels they should get the minutes. Daniels is in an 8 or 9 man rotation for sure. Actually I was more inclined to project Franks ahead of Pollard. Both will improve from last year, but Franks has more upside.

Flynn/Acquaah
Acquaah/Daniels
Hinson/Chidom & Ergas
Franks/Pollard/Chidom
Bernstine/Cooper/Pollard

Hinson and Acquaah really need to be able to shoot. Pollard, Chidom, and Ergas are all wildcards. No idea what to expect from Scaggs.

Agree. Pollard will never have a decent jumper. Ergas, who knows. Chudum has a nice stroke in practice.
