With CGD at UW this week was thinking about the only other time CGD came to UW…and WSU stole the show. Then UW got its ass kicked by Oregon.

So Softy said something on his show about how UW fans should steal the flags and that they didn’t belong at UW. I showed up at like 4am and there were a bunch of Cougs there early to escort the flag to its rightful spot front and center on the show and fend off any wayward huskies by force if needed. Turned out all the talk was nothing, nobody tried anything at all.

But the ESPN crew spotlighted the flag from the moment the car pulled up, and followed it all the way to the set. Their big moment was all about the Cougs! It was glorious, the asskicking from the ducks was the cherry on top.

Anyways hearing about dozens of Coug flags flying this Saturday in the wake of the Macafee nonsense got me thinking…I sure hope we upstage their big moment again and then Oregon takes them to the woodshed. That’s all.

My opinion is fly the flag as normal. Let uw have their moment. We don't need to go little brother on them.

I think I’m in the “go big” camp. Not because it’s UW (ok, not all because it’s UW)…but just to show that yeah…we’re still here, we’re still everywhere. We don’t give a damn if you’re tired of hearing about us…we’re not going away.

Little brother energy is alive and well this weekend. We have 10K tickets still available for our Homecoming game vs. Arizona, but our fans are more interested in going to UW for GameDay.

Remind me again why we're being relegated.

Yup F them. I’m not for being an attention whore in general but it was funny last time and would be funny again if they talk more about us than the mutts on their campus.

Hey I’ll be in Pullman! I just like seeing UW get kicked in the nuts. Something wrong w that?

The "industry" would rather we watched from home anyway. Attendance in the stands has little relevance.

Attendance has significant relevance to programs like ours; particularly now that we're looking at a significant conference revenue hit. Attendance in Pullman impacts local businesses, but it's also a revenue stream for the University in terms of merchandise sales, concessions, fundraising, recruiting, etc.

Ohio State and Tennessee bring in 100K+ fans for their games. That revenue is significant. Do a search for the top-25 richest college football programs and cross reference where they rank in terms of attendance.

Not trying to jump on you specifically about this, but I hate to hear our fans say that attendance doesn't matter much. It matters a Hell of a lot.

Really? 10,000 seats as of today? No way.

We only had 23K fans show up for last year's Homecoming game vs. Cal.

Our fans online like to talk a lot about how unfair it is that we're getting left behind, but the numbers are the numbers. We can't sell out a 32K seat stadium more than once or twice a year.

Regarding Softy....I just heard him say actually yesterday on KJR he doesn't give a rip about GameDay. He's not going to be there, since his pregame show on KJR starts at 8am, and he's jacked and focused on the actual game itself, not the GameDay hype.

I'm not sure UCLA had 25K last week against us. IMO, attendance isn't a significant factor in "being left behind". Maybe if we were selling out a 90K stadium it would have been a factor.

Market is the driver even though it's a flawed methodology especially compared to actual eyes.

Pullman attendance doesn’t matter outside Pullman

Yeah it's all about TV. The networks probably don't want anyone in the stands

Irrelevant

When you're the lowest revenue earning program in power conference football, attendance absolutely matters.

Come on people. Think this through. Lost revenue is lost revenue.

Sure, it’s lost revenue. But nobody outside Pullman cares.

Nobody cares about being in the stadium anymore. UW just sold out w a top 10 matchup. Outs

I mean...the AD hasn't put beer in the stadium yet...an easy fix that hasn't been completed still. The AD continues to neglect game day experience and fixing operations in stadium during games for smooth, quick transactions.

(Yes, I recognize there might be more "crackdowns" during tailgating, if they add it.)

local business, particularly motels need to stop price gouging on football weekends. IMO this gouging has caused many fans to stay away

I'll say that the hotel price gouging has become particularly egregious since COVID and the supply chain shortages happened. Once companies realized how stupid people were and how they would pay egregious prices for things just because it was the advertised price.....they've gone crazy.

Someone over on Facebook is trying to get someone to take over a room that they paid almost $1200 for. In my opinion, if you're dumb enough to pay $1200...you deserve to lose your money. We need to be smarter as fans and punish those hotels and leave them empty for a gameday weekend. They'd lower those prices in a heartbeat.

Of course, trucks routinely cost $70k right now because people are dumb enough to buy them at that price. I bought a new Ford this year and paid too much ($55k) but I refused to look until I could get one at least down to that price range.

Yeah supply and demand. At some point the extra drive to Lewiston becomes a better option.

It sucks they get so expensive for game weekends but at the same time, outside of graduation or some big event at Schweitzer, the hotel rooms are probably at pretty limited occupancy the rest of the year. They gotta make their money while they can.

Football is an emotional/adrenaline sport and kids want to play in front of a “juiced” crowd. If you think you’re helping WSU by watching from home because the industry favors that I’d highly disagree. No juice and your player quality goes down. No juice, no home field advantage. No wins definitely equals being relegated to the scrap pile.

Yeah but $70/night during the slow times and $300/night during FB weekends is a little ridiculous. Curious to see if they are all sold out. Used to be no way could you find a room in Pullman on game weekend.

And curious about Lewiston. Do they fill up? Do they jack prices? That one hotel right across the bridge is a nice location for jetting up the hill.

This is why they are so expensive. I’m not even sure I’d call this price gouging. Your other options are Spokane or Lewiston basically. At what point is that drive worth it. Going to be different for everyone.

Sucks for folks coming from the west side as that’s pretty much the only option. I’ve done the back and forth from Seattle and it sucks

Not my preference. But it’s been clear for years that the overall business side of CFB (not the local economy) cares far more about butts on couches than it does about butts in seats.

Agree with everything you say.

Bummer if we are not filling seats. I had not paid attention so far. Beavs were a sellout I believe, with their help. AZ won't bring anybody. But I'm sure mutt and quack fans will be flooding the stadiums on the east coast.

Game day stage will be right in the middle of the clash between Hamas supporters and supporters of Israel, should be interesting. I am sure the cops are clearing the protesters out of the way, provided they are not homeless, then you get to stay.

Little known fact....our stadium hasn't changed capacity in almost a decade and is now smaller than it was in the 90's. From 2012 to 2019, we were always able to find hotel rooms in either Moscow or Pullman without a lot of notice and they weren't ridiculously expensive. They were overpriced...but nothing like the stupidity today. I don't have a problem with spending $500 for a couple nights in a mediocre hotel room. It's a problem when they trying to charge $400-500 a night for those mediocre rooms.

Interesting. Basic economics is driving price here. Maybe the hotels have better real time pricing analytics tools in place today to maximize revenue. Maybe they left a lot of money on the table previously by charging less than they could have.

for anything that’s finite in nature and basic market conditions are driving price, not sure you’d call that gouging. As you said earlier it won’t stop till people stop paying it. I sympathize for people who would come to games but can’t afford $1000 hotel room. I also don’t blame the hotels, they are a business trying to maximize revenue. What else are they supposed to do?

I'll go ahead and take an asshole position on this...

People choose to live/work where they do. Can prioritize whatever they want.

Mine always has been and always will be family and Cougar football.

Don't get mad about driving distance. We all know where WSU is.

Don't get mad about inflation on one thing and think its okay somewhere else.

Don't get mad about WSU being on TV and then games being really early or really late... more people can see WSU football than ever before.

I'm going to argue with this one (sort of). I go to the home games, so I don't care if they're on TV. Therefore, I want them all to start at 2:00. I want road games to start at 4 or 5, so I can still do something with my day and not have to stay up half the night to watch.

To not care if they are on TV is whack.

Where do you think we get our money from? Where how do we get noticed?

The hotels in Pullman and Moscow are sold out or mostly sold out for game weekends, yet we can’t typically exceed 30K fans/game. Fair or not fair, that makes us a MWC / G5 program in todays era of college football.
