For my part, I'm less interested in background than I am in ability to synthesize information, make decisions, and lead teams. One of the best bosses I ever had was a theater major in college, and he was a highly functional leader that led a large organization of about 75 software engineers. His background wasn't important, but his ability to listen to his top leaders and make decisions was. Indeed, I think the fact that he wasn't steeped in years of software engineering culture gave him a perspective none of us had and made him effective.
And your comparison isn't quite apt. The CEO of a hospital isn't the one doing the colonoscopy or removing your appendix. Or even reading charts or prescribing medicine. Some CEO's aren't even doctors. Some CEOs of very large corporations have huge R&D teams, and they aren't even engineers! Some CEOs of very large corporations have huge sales and marketing teams, but they are engineers.
So, when evaluating cabinet positions, they are more like CEOs and less like the rank and file. He isn't a general (or admiral), or even an infantryman or platoon leader. So I don't expect him to have experience or expertise in those areas.
With all that said, I think that Hegseth hasn't demonstrated any CEO-like skills either. But I haven't dug into it much. But lack of experience or expertise isn't a big concern of mine.

Well… my example was a joke but the fact remains that Hegseth is no more qualified to run the Pentagon than a pool boy is for surgery… or is 74 qualified to be a pool boy… or is dgibbons for any position that would require critical thinking ability and intellectual honesty.
You can look it up. Hegseth ran 2 non-profits, the Veterans For Freedom (VFF) and Concerned Veterans for America. He was forced out of both non- profits for “financial mismanagement, sexual impropriety, and personal misconduct”. He is said to have run the VFF into the ground financially to the point that it would have to declare bankruptcy were it not absorbed by another nonprofit.
If he couldn’t run a couple of small non-profits do you actually believe he could run the Pentagon?
A far more enlightening question to ask is this: why are so many of Trumps nominees utterly unqualified for the posts Trump is nominating them for?

This may be difficult for you to get your head around but running a business is nothing like running the government or a government agency. This just demonstrates your naïveté. But let’s pretend it is the same. Why would you entrust people like Trump and Hegseth with their track record of business failures to not phuck up a far bigger “business”? It defies logic and boggles the mind.
Well I agree with you on the disdain for attorneys. In all manner of things. Unfortunately, they seem to gravitate to one of the few professions that is despised more than being a lawyer - being a politician. Hence our own state - our last 4 governors have/had law degrees. That's been great, eh?
That said, and with Hegseth's confirmation likely, we'll just have to wait and see how it works out when he gets into a room with the Joint Chiefs of Staff, among other groups. And while I tend not to crucify people for their personal choices, Pam, Tulsi and Kristi better watch out. Let's see. First marriage, 2005-2009, 5 admitted affairs. Second marriage, 2010-2018. Busy time in 2017 - illegitimate child born in August, wife filed for divorce in September, alleged sexual assault in October. Third marriage to Fox co-worker and mother of said child in 2019. 7 kids total. Busy guy.
As far as the list of millionaire/billionaire nominees, seems a bit like giving the fox a key to the henhouse. But again, we shall see. This Pam Bondi kind of scares me. For starters she is opposed to medical marijuana. That's a big red flag. And she is absolutely 110% beholden to Trump. I have no doubt that he will give her a list of "enemies" to prosecute on Day 1. Which she will go after.
It's going to be a f-ing mess. I just hope that the country survives it.

I am sure you will trumpet his six bankruptcies (all related to the casinos) to the heavens, while ignoring all his successes. How many buildings/projects did he successfully do in NYC? How many were done over the world? How many golf course did he bring online? Did he have a top rated TV show that ran for several years? Wasn't he able to renovate the ice rink in NYC for about $500,000 in 6 months after the city had failed for years and spending millions? Of course he did.
So why don't you go ahead and boggle your mind and do an accurate investigation into the entire Trump track record and then get back to us with some accurate data? We'll wait......

The only reason Trump is president and is as wealthy as he is because he’s a reality star. And even then all he had to do was show up - the producers - Primarily Mark. Burnett - did all the work and rescued him when his empire was crumbling away. They had a list of 3 people in mind to star in The Apprentice - had they picked someone else you wouldn’t be rubbing one out over Trump today. How many bankruptcies has he had? Failed business ventures? It’s been pointed out here before that if he’d just put his daddy’s fortune in an index fund he’d be richer today than he is.
As to his wealth, he would have been able to afford plenty of Big Macs continuing to license his name and the beauty pageant stuff was doing well before the apprentice. His holdings after his face plant in Atlantic City still would have made him a billionaire. Net worth may not have been above a billion absent the Apprentice.
