Received a can of Cougar Gold, but the person didn’t see “store under refrigeration” on it. They had it out for at least a day in 65-70 degrees. Anyone ever hear of it being stored not In the fridge? Would hate to toss it.

Check with the creamery, but I’m pretty sure that’s not a problem if you have refrigerated it since then .

Interestingly enough, a couple of years ago when a college buddy of mine father had passed, we were going through his house. We found a can of Cougar Gold dated 1990 in his fridge. We opened it and it had shrunk significantly. Tasted pretty good too. Of course our wives would go nowhere near it and were convinced we need to check our life insurance coverage before tasting.

Naw don’t toss it. I’ve had plenty of cans of cougar gold that have been hauled around campus all day then thrown in the back seat of the car in September for a drive to Seattle or Spokane. You’ll be fine. Maybe if it was left out a week it could be a problem but not for a day.

It’s fine. Cheese is relatively shelf-stable. Even if it molds, just peel off the mold and go for it.

Americans are too squeamish about food. We’ve been conditioned to think that everything has to be the perfect size, shape, and color…and the amount of chemicals we tolerate in our food has allowed that.

I wouldn’t think twice about eating it.

Found and ate a couple of cans of 15+ year old Gold from my parents garage fridge and it was just fine although slightly damper than the fresh stuff. 30+ years has to be a record.

Its "cheese," you know, the old fashioned way they preserved excess milk product. Refrigeration started 150 years ago, cheese started in 5500 BC in a wickedly hot place called Mesopotamia. Think about it! Aged Cheddar, AKA Cougar Gold, started in 12th century Somerset, 660 years before the first commercial refrigerator. The refrigerate after opening is a CYA message.
