If we don't fire Rolovich, it has to be on the condition that he cleans house. Our offensive line is terrible, we can't adapt to any changes that defenses make and our defensive players are fundamentally unsound at tackling. We would be dominating this game if we weren't tripping over our own dicks the whole time.

I can’t fault the defense. It’s far from good, but the talent is lacking. Nobody the caliber of Borghi, Lucas, Harris, McIntosh and Jackson on the defensive side. Watson is the only guy on D that’s perhaps above average.

If Dickert had average talent I think he’s produce average or better results.

The offense doesn’t have the excuse of poor talent. It’s underachieving.

this is on the offense, and that means rolovich

Rolo is the run n shoot.

Fire Rolo now and Elevate Dickert to the HC. He will run the ball at least and try to hide the fact that the QB is Chad Davis reincarnated.

Dickerts fine, simmer down

I’m just tired of having a bunch of guys that can’t tackle anybody. At some point, that’s in him
i hear you, but let's lay blame where it belongs. That was a Wulffian effort. Jared Karstetter couldn't save the day

Was that when he broke his arm in scrub time his freshman year? Idaho? I remember a break where he got his arm between the legs and snap!

We could really use a big physical receiver like Jared right now. Run 8 yards down field, mug the db covering you, turn and catch the ball. Knowing that that pass play was there every down, would make de Laura job so much easier. Darling, McElrath, Williams, Wynn, Bush, Lunde ... How does a DB cover a WR who is 5 inches tall and 40 pounds heavier? You don't!

Instead of firing the OC and DC, how about firing the guy that hired the OC and the DC?
And if the OC and the DC were fired, you would trust Rolo to go out and find a superior OC and DC, given that the value of this job is dropping by the week, and it is likely he won't be growing old in Pullman.

I understand the sentiment in the OP in some ways, but this situation doesn't lend itself to sacrificing a coordinator the same way that, e.g., Lake might get to do in Montlake. Rolo is an offensive coach hired because he runs the R&S, the OC is his guy, and the offense is awful. Firing Dickert but leaving the OC would be dumb. Firing both coordinators but allowing Rolo to stay, given the situation, also would be dumb. Then you have a dead man walking, with no money, little credibility, and little reason to be trusted, hiring a couple of coordinators. Wyoming could tackle when Dickert was the DC ... or, at least, I assume as much based on those numbers that defense put up when he was there and based on who Dickert coached under before taking over that defense.

All this firing talk aside, subject to the possibility of something happening in connection with the mandate, I'm virtually certain Chun lets things play out through this season, and probably lets him start off coaching in 2022, no matter how bad it gets.

FWIW, I think Rolovich is in over his head and should be fired. My comment was that if we are stuck with Rolovich, heads need to roll and we need to clean house. Our offensive line play is terrible, our tackling is embarrassingly bad, our defensive players in particular are playing like they are scared to make mistakes.....which makes them make mistakes. Borghi has regressed, whether that be from his injury or lack of faith in his teammates or whatever it is. Our QB play is the worst that I've seen in over a decade and maybe longer.

I'd rather see Rolovich get canned, but the guys he has hired are failing just as hard as he is right now. The head coach is ultimately responsible for what happens, but that doesn't excuse the other coaches for the crappy play.

if he starts out next season he will finish the season, I think he gets canned after this season. the fan base is unusually united against him, which weighs a lot in this type of decision

Remember when he was hiring his staff and everyone was thinking about all the shiny possibilities on both sides of the ball that were real possible coaching hires? Then Ed chimes in with "watch, he'll hire his entire staff from Hawaii", you're "no way will THAT happen and then there's that "oh, oh" moment when you realize Ed was right.

Could happen, especially if we see the unmitigated disaster that appears likely the rest of the way. I just have a gut feeling (informed by finances, norms, and the like) that we're in for him staying and a lot of jawboning from Chun about the difficulties presented by the pandemic, the challenges all coaches face in a transition, signs for optimism (whatever those are, they can be manufactured ... someone will put up some stats or do so some things, even if in the context of failure overall), wanting to maintain "momentum in recruiting" (here, too, this can be manufactured no matter who we wind up signing), the desire to make sure he can install his system, the need for a steady hand (referring to himself) even in the face of some pressure, especially "at this critical time in the college sports landscape," references to examples like Smith at Oregon State, assuming they continue to have some success, and so on.

didn't he also hire wyoming"s whole defensive staff? or most of it.

if this happens we would be repeating the mistakes of keeping Wulff all over again

First of all, people need to stop comparing the Rolo hire to Wulff. They weren’t at all similar. Wulff was a cheap-out, nobody hire. Rolo was a highly regarded G5 coaching prospect on the West coast, and we paid him a very solid salary (by WSU standards). If it wasn’t for the pandemic and the Vax drama, there’s no way WSU would fire him this season. The mandate opens the door for Schulz & Chun, but they have to proceed with caution here.

Privately, there are a lot of players, recruits, and coaches across the Nation who understand Rolo’s stance on the vaccine. WSU needs to avoid coming across as the iron fist of compliance, or we stand to send a bad vibe to prospective coaches and recruits. Worse yet, we’ll lose a lot of our existing roster to the transfer portal.

Ideally, Inslee will force WSU’s hand and make an example out of Rolo, and WSU can play the “we had no choice” PR hand.

Disagree.

The LAST thing Inslee wants is a high profile legal challenge to his mandate. The VERY last thing.

Which is why absolutely nothing is going to happen on October 18th related to Rolo's health status impacting his employment. That doesn't mean going winless the rest of the way doesn't trigger a change - but that will be based on flat out losing, not medical mandates.

I think coaching tree and relationships need to factor into our next hire.

I really liked the hire. In fact, I remember watching Hawaii play and was like if Leach leaves, let's bring in this guy.

Ed was right. Need relationships... both recruiting and coaching
